OCTOBER 2018 the Beauty BOOK
Plasma therapy uses a high concentration of platelet-rich plasma and is a biological procedure using your own cells, so there’s nothing to be afraid of. We draw blood, concentrate platelets using the centrifuge technology, then put it back into the skin. The procedure takes about an hour and 15 minutes, and it’s less painful and causes less bruising than other dermal fillers. Patients typically come out with slightly red skin, similar to a sunburn, and we apply cooling cream to calm this side effect. As always, you’ll get the most out of your plasma therapy treatments with the combination of a healthy and well-balanced diet, good hydration, and using the facial care products recommended by your esthetician after your procedure. Most of our patients enjoy noticeable improvements in their skin condition, texture, and tone within three weeks, and you may notice subtle improvements for up to a year. And it won’t just be you noticing the difference; I’ve had clients tell me that after PRP therapy, their family and friends say, “Your skin and face look so good! What did you do?” It’s a confidence boost. In addition to Plasma Therapy, there are many other treatments we can do this time of year to give you a renewed look. Maybe it’s time to schedule your next Botox treatment. With Botox, there is so much we can do to make you look 5–10 years younger. We can elevate the brows and bring back firmness and a brighter appearance to the eye area. This month, in fact, we have a Botox special you’ll want to check out. You can learn more inside the newsletter.

How did it get to be fall already? It seems like summer went by so quickly. Now that we are here, it’s time to think about how you can prepare and refresh your skin after spending time in the sun all summer. This time of year when the air is drier, it’s especially important to pay attention to your routine and talk to your esthetician about making adjustments as the humidity and exposure to sunlight change. And we have many treatment options to give your skin an autumn renewal. Regenerative Medicine & Healing
Have a happy fall and a fun Halloween! See you soon!

One beneficial treatment is plasma therapy, a regenerative medicine that works aesthetically. Using your body’s own repair kit, your platelets, we promote collagen production and growth factors in your skin. Did you know that platelets have at least eight different growth factors that stimulate your body to repair itself? When you cut yourself, for example, your platelets are the first responder. They become activated at the cut site and promote healing. This is the science behind plasma therapy.

Find the Right Food Balance
FOODS THAT CAUSE AND REDUCE INFLAMMATION The food you eat plays a major role in how your body functions on the cellular level. Some foods can wreak havoc on your body, while others can make you feel great. This is especially true when it comes to that all-too-common ailment, inflammation.
Here are a few examples of foods that lead to inflammation:
It’s BAAAAACK! Bootox Mania ARE YOU READY? Say “Boo!” to your wrinkles with this once-a-year special! Call us at 956-664-1234 to book your appointment. They fill up quickly, so don’t wait. Go on, treat yourself to our scary-good prices!
Sugar: One of the biggest culprits behind inflammation, sugar is far worse than eating fatty foods. It’s best to skip foods that have added sugar (and this includes sugar of any kind, including corn syrup, fructose, and sucrose). Many manufacturers now label food with more specific kinds of sugar to hide the fact that they added sugar to their product. Be sure to read labels carefully! Refined carbs: Basically anything made from white flour falls into this category, including bread, pasta, baked goods, and cereals. Research suggests that refined carbs may be a bigger contributing factor than fat in obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. Alcohol: Too much alcohol puts a burden on your liver, an organ that helps flush toxins out of the body. You know all of those detox diets? They don’t work. In fact, the only way to detox is to let your liver do its job. When you consume alcohol, it’s harder for the liver to pump out the toxins in your body. When it can’t do its job properly, the result is inflammation. Blueberries: Many studies call blueberries one of the best fruits you can eat to ease symptoms of inflammation. These blue orbs of goodness are packed with antioxidants, vitamin C, polyphenols, and so much more. Eat a handful every day! Salmon: As a source of healthy fats and omega-3 fatty acids, salmon is one of the best protein choices for people with inflammatory conditions, or for those who want to keep inflammation at bay. Broccoli: One of the most nutritious and easily accessible vegetables around, the little green buds that cover the tops of broccoli are loaded with anti- inflammatory compounds. Now, for the good stuff. Eat these foods to reduce inflammation:

For example, if someone has sagging skin around the mouth and jowls, by using a filler like Juvéderm Voluma, the skin is lifted up, diminishing laugh lines and tightening the skin around the mouth and chin. Juvéderm Voluma is a gel filler, formulated for deep injection and volume, and can be used in other areas of the face. The research done to find better filler options for those who want to rid themselves of sagging and wrinkled skin has led to many different treatments. Special formulations now allow your doctor to treat fine The treatment of aging and sagging skin has been around for years. Since the 1800s, people have sought different methods to decrease the lines in their face and add volume to their skin. Several techniques included the use of body fat, paraffin wax, petroleum jelly, silicone, and animal collagen. However, each of these methods produced unfavorable long-term results. Researchers sought safer and more effective alternatives. Today, the safest, longest-lasting synthetic fillers are available to you. With the use of the older techniques, many people experienced unwanted results, such as puffiness and bulldog jowls. Now with new methods, such as anatomic filling, the process has improved dramatically.

Peels This is one of the most popular services at any spa and for good reason. When properly administered by an esthetician, a peel can rejuvenate and refresh skin by getting rid of dead cells and creating a smoother, more even-toned surface. Facial massage A facial massage can stimulate your lymphatic system and clear out dead cells and toxins. Plus, it’s relaxing and feels great! What better way to jump into fall? Hydration Dry skin is not a good canvas for makeup. This time of year especially, make sure you are using the right moisturizers for each area of your skin, including the sensitive under-eye areas. Talk to your esthetician to find out the best fit for your skin type.
Take a look at Kahlovera’s Instagram, and you’ll be treated to a gorgeous display of Dia de los Muertos-inspired looks, or Catrina . Artist Judith Bautista, who goes by “Kahlovera” on social media, creates beautiful designs based on the history and heritage of Mexico. While many people employ her skills for Halloween costumes, she says she enjoys the opportunity to educate people about Dia de los Muertos. Contrary to the scares and frights that Halloween is all about, the Mexican holiday focuses on embracing the beauty of life and death by celebrating loved ones who’ve passed. “You’re celebrating that person like you would a birthday, with all the things they loved most,” Bautista told Allure magazine about the meaning behind the holiday. It has its roots in Aztec traditions and Ofrendas in the form of alters and offerings to honor the spirits who will visit the world of the living for one night only. Even if you don’t plan to go all-out with Catrina makeup, check out Bautista’s looks for some color inspiration — her lipstick hues are gorgeous. And while you’re at it, help your skin feel fresh and fall- ready with a few refreshers.
