HOW TO PRICE A COMMERCIAL SYSTEM
DEFINITIONS • Capacity – Flow typically given in US gallons per minute (GPM) • Pressure – Typically given in PSI or total dynamic head (TDH) • Water Booster – A system that boosts pressure in a water riser at a determined capacity • Isolation Valve – A valve used to shut off water service to a pump or riser line
• Check Valve – A valve used to prevent water from damaging a pump or other piping used in a building due to water hammer. • Pressure Regulating Valve – A valve used to regulate the outbound pressure of a pump to a predetermined pressure from the engineer. • VFD – Variable Frequency Drives are used to alter motor speeds between 30Hz and 60Hz • PLC – Programmable Logic Controllers are used as the brains behind the system. This is a device that is used to log and commence system operation by controlling output signals to the VFD’s and other equipment on the system. • CCES – Close Coupled End Suction. High flow, low head. • FMES – Frame Mounted End Suction. High flow, low head. • VMS – Vertical Multistage. Low flow, high head. • Segmented Ring Diffuser Pump (RKBV) – Robust version of a VMS pump. Low flow, high head. 50 year pumps • VIL – Vertical Inline. High flow, low head. • VTP – Vertical Turbine Pump. High flow, high head abilities. • HSC – Horizontal Split Case. High flow, low head.
EQUATIONS • PSI to TDH (SFI Standard) – (Boost psi + 5psi) * 2.31 = TDH • Speed and Frequency o Ns=(120*f)/P f = frequency Ns = Nominal Speed P = Motor Poles
