Dear Members,

I hope summer is off to a great start for you and your family. Even with this being prime vacation time for our members there is still plenty of activity at the Club. If you’re in town on the 4 th I hope you’ll join us for our annual celebration, including a spectacular fireworks show, kid’s splash zone, game area for bigger kids and plenty of food and beverage for all. Construction on the original back nine begins this month. The last day to play on this nine is July 4 th . On Friday the 5 th we will have a Divot Taking Party on Islands #8 green. We’ll be hitting from #8 green to Lakes #6 green. Bring your 130 yard club and join us a 5:30pm. Beverages will be available and closet to the pin wins $100 credit in the Golf Shop. This year’s project includes not only the putting greens and greenside bunkers as planned but will also include all fairway bunkers as well. The Board decided to add the fairway bunkers to the project as there will never be a better time to do them than during the closure. When the original back nine re-opens around December 1 st , we’ll have new greens and all new bunkers, I’m sure it will be beautiful. In addition, the Lakes #4 green will be moved a little further back and to the right, bringing the water more into play. Two greenside bunkers will be added as well as two fairway bunkers on the left. This easy non-descript hole will be significantly improved. The funds for this additional work on the greens is being made possible by member Mike Anderson. He is putting on the Seven Oaks Classic Golf Tournament in the fall to raise the funds. He has generously guaranteed the funds, regardless of the tournament’s success. The idea going forward is to do this yearly, with the proceeds going into golf course improvements. Multiple other members have stepped forward recently with generous donations, as well. An anonymous donor has pur- chased matching shirts for all 40 kids who are entered in the Augusta Masters Drive, Chip, and Putt contest. The kids of Seven Oaks will be looking sharp! Another anonymous member has donated funding for light fixtures at the pickleball courts and Ted McLemore and his company, Tri-State Electric, are donating labor and material to install the lights. Members John and Katie Hahn have donated the portable light towers for our July 4 th celebration, saving the club from having to rent them. Rick and Neetu Jhaj have generously underwritten all the lunches for every child in our PGA Junior Camps this summer, as well as making a donation to be used for youth programming. Another member has furnished all the materials and labor to install new drywall downstairs after our flooding incident. On behalf of all the team members at Seven Oaks, we thank these members and all others who have made donations to their club. It is greatly appreciated.

See you at the Club,

Mike

In June we hosted two great tournaments. The first was our annual U.S. Open tournament where a member is paired with a tour pro who is playing in the US Open. The pro’s Saturday score is added to the members score. Winners were paid in both Gross and Net divisions. Overall Gross winner was Corbin Loyear who was paired with professional Adri Amous. First place Net winner was Jay Mercer who was paired with Matt Kuchar Congrats gentlemen! Another of our favorite events is our Father’s Day Tournament. The Handicapped flight winners were Jeff and Jackson Thorn and the non-handicapped flight winners were Dave and Carson King. Two of our members recorded aces in June. The first was Ted McLemore on Lakes 3 and the second ace was by Blake Bourelle on Oaks 8! What a great way to start off summer, congratulations!

We’re having a family fun golf day on Sunday June 30 th with a shotgun start at 3:00pm on the Oaks course. The tees will be moved up making it fun for all skill levels. All golf members are welcome, sign up in the pro shop. All the kids in our Road to Augusta program have been doing a great job improving their games and getting ready for the qualifying events. Almost 40 kids have signed up, this is really a significant number of kids from one club. The golf staff is proud of these kids and we know they will represent Seven Oaks well! Gentlemen, don’t forget Round Up on Thursdays, it’s a great way to have fun and get in a little golf after work, come join us.

What to Expect with this Summer’s Construction Project

As July comes upon us we will begin the second phase of our course construction project. As we did last year, we will be re-grassing the greens and approaches as well as rebuilding the bunkers, both green-side and fairways. All the work will take place on the original back nine, which is Lakes 1 thru 6 and Islands 7 thru 9. The bunkers will be moved as needed and reshaped causing them to be more strategic to the greens and fairways. The bunkers will have drainage installed, a soil stabilizer applied on the faces and floors, and 100% new sand for every bunker. These new bunkers will be like the two new greens-side bunkers on Oaks #9. Those two new bunkers are finally settling and playing much better than when they were brand new. Included with the greens turf grassing and bunkers is a 100% new design for the Lakes #4 greens complex. This new complex will see the green moved back toward the water as well as sliding to the right closer to the water. Also, the 3 bunkers on the right side before the green will all be removed and the area lowered affording a view of the water. Two fairway bunkers will be added short of the green on the left pushing the fairway slightly to the right. The new green will have a bunker on both the left and right side. These changes will add character and an additional challenge the hole currently lacks.

Bunker construction on #9 Oaks summer of 2018

Click on the graphic below for this month’s video:

We will start the project on July 5 th by spraying the greens and approaches with herbicide to kill the turf before we begin stripping it. The process for reshaping and re-grassing the greens will be done is the same manner as the Oaks greens last summer. The greens will be grown in with the same bent grass and we expect to reopen the course the first weekend in December. Lastly, we will be doing a major tree trimming on the back-9 during construction. Last year we trimmed about 300 trees and we plan to do the same this year as well. The trimming will really open up the sight lines on the course as it did for the Oaks-9. The new bunkers will not only provide a much more aesthetically pleasing view, they will be more strategically placed and have much better playing conditions. I am excited to get the project underway and for the continued improvement to our golf course.

Playing tennis In the Heat. Cooler drinks are absorbed into the body much quicker. So bring a cooler filled with ice if you’re going to be playing on a hot day. Sports drinks like Gatorade and Powerade help retain fluid in your system. Stay away from Alcohol, soda, and caffeine. Alcohol is an extreme toxin to your system and literally sucks the water and any other hydrating liquids right out of your body. So, if you think you’re having problems now, add a little Budweiser, and you might as well not even show up to the match.

In this particular strategy, you must try and keep the ball away from the strong opponent. For that, you need to identify the player you intend to target. Now, keep the weak opponent busy on the ball and try to win the game without allowing the stronger opponent to counteract. This must only be practiced in competitive games.
