July and summer have finally hit. I am SOOOO glad that we decided to put in the pool. Although, I would expect the kids to be in it more. Something is still really novel. They like to go to their friends houses to “swim.” I am like, we have a pool. But I guess that things are just better with friends. Xbox and Playstation have become communication tools during the pandemic as well. We have to yell upstairs to remind the boys that they need to eat, shower, brush their teeth and get in the pool. So we have now got to become the entertainment house so that all of the kids come over here. That is a big transition but the kids will be here and off of the computer. One good thing has happened (sort of). Everyone has broken their phones (and I use that term loosely). It is amazing how much talking you get from teenagers when the prime communication device is no longer able to communicate. Mainly Brinkley. She is 11, almost 12 and a virtual chatterbox. She uses more words before 9 AM than I use all day long. I feel like my ears will bleed sometimes. I never stop her though because I know that when she turns 13, she will completely stop talking to me. At least that is what has happened with the other 3. Sophie is coming back around, but the conversations are way different. And yes,

she is back in town. She got back just before LA shut back down. She has been teaching dance classes live and online. She is helping her old studio by doing some choreography. It is cool to watch her growing up. Baseball season was really short and is wrapping up in the next week. Foster only got a few games in for his 13 year old season. He missed the entire fall season with a broken foot. He is taking lessons with Riley Davis though to work on some higher level catching skills. Riley is playing in college and was on the Collierville Dragons baseball team. Stone had a job, then quit his job. Now he just goes on Nextdoor and posts odd jobs. This is an app for your smartphone that some people use to communicate all kinds of things. Like, these kids are shooting fireworks again and scaring my dog. Or, anyone have a good plumber? Hope is redoing our garage right now and I can actually walk in it. It is pretty amazing the amount of stuff that we accumulate over time. Anyway, as we try to get back to some sort of normal, the new normal, stay safe, stay healthy, and give those air high fives and elbow bumps!! In Health, Jeremy

Your rotator cuff is comprised of the muscles and tendons surrounding your shoulder joint. Sometimes, the rotator cuff can become torn or injured, due to repetitive overhead motions performed in sports (such as tennis) or jobs (such as carpentry.) Athletes are also at risk of developing a rotator cuff injury if they participate in rigorous activities, such asweight-lifting, swimming, or tennis. The active movements associated with sports and laborious work are undoubtedly important factors to keep inmind; however, passive movements can also be contributing factors to an injury. Continuous poor posture and imporper positioningof the shoulders canmake your scapula, or shoulder blade, muchmore vulnerable to pain and rotator cuff injuries. Those who experience rotator cuff injuries or “torn shoulders” generally report a dull ache deep in their shoulder, armweakness, difficulty reaching behind their back, and disturbed sleep due to pain. At Pittman Physical Therapy, our natural and non-invasive methods can help relieve your shoulder pain and heal your rotator cuff injury. How Can Physical Therapy Help a Rotator Cuff Injury? While rotator cuff injuries sometimes require surgery if they are severe enough, there are several cases where physical therapy treatments can work just as well (if not better) than surgery.

According to theAmericanPhysical TherapyAssociation, “A recent study fromFinland asserts that when it comes to treatment of non- traumatic rotator cuff tears, physical therapy aloneproduces results equal to those produced by arthroscopic surgery and open surgical repair.” In this same study, a follow-up on 167 patients receiving physical therapy alone for their rotator cuff injuries, demonstrated that conservative treatment, such as physical therapy, should be considered as the primary treatment for this condition. How Do I Know If Physical Therapy Is Needed? It is natural to experience an occasional ache or pain from overexertion. However, it is when the pain becomes chronic or unbearable that the condition becomes serious. Chronic pain, or pain persisting for threemonths or longer, is an indication that PT intervention is needed. There are some additional symptoms to consider that may also be telling signs that treatment is needed, such as: • Sharp or stinging pains. • Uncomfortable “clicking” sounds with movement. • Dull pain that runs alongside your arm. • Sudden arm weakness.
