Springtime is here! I always look forward to warm spring weather, fresh air, blooming flowers, and when the days are longer. The sunshine seems to linger around more, and we have more time to enjoy the day. Spring also yields life, and it’s a great time to see all of the wildlife that’s active and thriving with babies being born. The birds are singing, too! Spring is here to pull us out of our winter slumps! In my little paradise at home, bulb flowers such as tulips and daffodils are beginning to bud and emerge. We still get visitors almost daily — the deer in our backyard vary in numbers each day. We go through periods where we don’t see any, and then some days, we will have two, other days five, and once, we even had as many as between 12–15. Usually, they are present more after it’s been very cold and they are on the hunt for some treats. Seeing them and visiting with them is so majestic — it’s something my wife and I surely look forward to. At the grocery store, I always purchase apples for the deer. But they don’t get the fancy, expensive ones! I grab the cheapest ones I can find because they can be little pigs! Along with spring comes the April 18 tax deadline! Have you prepared and filed your taxes yet? I know I have. If you forgot or have put it on the back burner, now is the time to act quickly because you should’ve prepared your paperwork at the end of last year so you can be done by the time everyone else is getting started. In case you are still working on that, here’s a quick list of important things to do. Round up your documents. By now, you’ve received all of the important documents you need from your employer(s), brokerage firms, and banks you do business with. Check to make sure the information is correct. If you had a job, you’ll have received a W-2. If you received other income throughout the year, you’ll need a 1099 form, and if you paid any mortgage interest last year, you’ll need to file a 1098 form. If you had winnings from gambling to report, a W-2G is necessary. Spring Has Sprung Are You Ready for Tax Day?

Gather your receipts. Depending on whether or not you itemize your deductions or claim the standard deduction, you’ll need your receipts, too. Keep them all together and have them calculated. Some important receipts to have prepared are medical costs that insurance did not cover, investment-related expenses, and property taxes. If you made any charitable contributions, be sure to have those receipts handy, too! Jot down all information. Surely you know your own personal information, but if you are claiming dependents, be sure to have their Social Security numbers and dates of birth written down and ready to go. For any properties you own other than your primary residence, have that address handy.

If, for whatever reason, you need to file for an extension, do not delay! April 18 will be here sooner than you think!

Happy spring!

BUT FIND THE ELUSIVE GOOD-LUCK CHARM FIRST Make a 4-Leaf Clover Keepsake

Clover Craft Once you find your clover, preserve the luck in it all year by placing it in a picture frame. First, gently press the clover leaves between the pages of a large book for several days to flatten them out. After pressing, you can add green food coloring to your clover to enhance its color. Once it’s dry, clean it and let it sit overnight. Then, place your clover onto acid-free paper, cut to fit the size of a picture frame of your choice. Next, use acid-free glue to keep your clover in place, and finally, seal your frame shut. You now have your personal good luck charm! Searching for a four-leaf clover and creating a keepsake will be a great bonding experience for you and your family. We wish you luck! Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Nearly 1 in 4 U.S. adults have been diagnosed with arthritis — and as the population ages, those numbers are only expected to increase. Arthritis affects the joints, and it can have a significant impact on a person’s well-being, ability to work, and overall quality of life. With cases being so prevalent, it’s wise to know the facts. Who is at risk of arthritis, and what are the treatments? Here’s everything you need to know. Symptoms The symptoms of arthritis will largely depend on the type of arthritis a person has. There are over 100 different types of arthritis, but the most common are osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and fibromyalgia. Most types cause stiffness or pain in the joints, and it can affect only one joint, some joints but not others, or all joints. Some types of arthritis develop gradually, while others have a sudden onset, and symptoms may be persistent or come and go. One of St. Patrick’s Day’s most popular symbols is a four-leaf clover. In Ireland, these clovers represent luck and good fortune. Each leaf on the clover has a different meaning — faith, hope, love, and success. It’s a tradition to find a four- leaf clover on St. Patrick’s Day and do activities involving this lucky leaf. So, how do you find these good-luck charms, and what can you do with them? How to Find a 4-Leaf Clover Although it may seem difficult, it’s easier than you might think. First, find a dense patch of white clover — near it is where four-leaf clovers reside. They are different from the rest and are often smaller, so keep that in mind when you look for the lucky green clovers. Instead of staring at the patch in close detail and counting leaves, search the patch without focusing on the tiny details. This increases the odds of eyeing a four-leaf clover because the different patterns, shapes, and sizes of these clovers will jump out at you. If you find one, keep looking! There’s a chance another one might be nearby. Arthritis Is More Prevalent Than You Realize Get the Facts

and request X-rays or blood tests to confirm your arthritis and the type. That way they can target treatment effectively.

Risk Factors Unfortunately, the causes of many types of arthritis are unknown, but the existing science does have something to say about who is at risk of developing the condition. Some factors you can’t control. For example, two-thirds of people with arthritis are women, and the risk of arthritis rises as you get older. Some people also have inherited genes that increase their disposition toward developing arthritis. Some factors, however, can be mitigated. People who are overweight or smoke are more likely to develop different types of arthritis. Studies have linked joint injury and infection to arthritis, so make sure to seek medical care for any pain or swelling. Further, people who don’t engage in physical activity during leisure time are the most likely to have arthritis, so exercise may help prevent the condition. Treatment There is currently no cure for arthritis, but collaboration with a doctor can help you manage the condition. The goal of treatment is to reduce pain, minimize joint damage, and improve overall ability and function. Depending on the arthritis type, treatment can include physical therapy, exercise, medication, or even surgery. A doctor or physical therapist can help you understand how to move safely and recommend healthy exercises for your joints. But the key is to ask for help in the first place. If you suspect you have arthritis, or if your arthritis is currently untreated, you should seek the advice of a medical professional right away. There is hope for managing your condition, reducing your pain, and increasing your quality of life. A qualified doctor or physical therapist can help you improve your daily function and comfort so you can get back to doing the things you love.

If you suspect you have arthritis, you should visit a doctor for a formal diagnosis. Your physician will review your medical history, perform a physical examination,

Sunday, March 20, is the first day of spring — which means it’s time for some spring-cleaning. Did you know that cleaning is not just about tidying up a physical space? It’s also about improving overall well-being. Here’s how organization and cleanliness can help you in more ways than you might expect. Spring-cleaning reduces stress and depression. Tidiness and mental health are actually connected. Studies have found that having a clean home is directly correlated to happiness and your ability to focus. Anxiety can spike when laundry is piling up, items are strewn everywhere, and papers get scattered on various surfaces within the home. Clearing the clutter is a great way to boost your mood and increase those feel-good hormones. It prevents illnesses. Doorknobs, refrigerator handles, light switches, countertops, and remote controls are all things we touch many times a day. Cleaning anything that’s used often is one way to reduce the spread of germs. By keeping household surfaces clean, we help thwart the spread of viruses and illnesses. Spring-cleaning helps you breathe better. Spring often brings pollen that triggers allergies for many. But pollen isn’t the only thing to blame when people have difficulty breathing. When dust and pet dander build up in your home, your respiratory system is greatly affected too. Deep- cleaning your air filters and vents can make breathing effortless — and it’s truly amazing how this can improve your well-being. It keeps you more active. Off the couch and on your feet! Even just running the vacuum and clearing the clutter from the dining room table will get you up and moving, which is healthy for your heart and body. LEAVING ON A JET PLANE? 3 ESSENTIAL PACKING TIPS

Many people are considering traveling this spring for the first time since the pandemic started. A lot has changed since 2020, but packing for vacation remains a hassle, and baggage fees haven’t gone anywhere. Here are some essential tips to keep your load as light as possible — physically and mentally.

thumb is that the personal item needs to fit under the seat in front of you. Don’t bring a small purse or a laptop bag when you can take a large tote or backpack. With the extra room, you can avoid checking another bag.

Never check essential items. Lost luggage is the worst way to start a vacation, but it happens. If your

Make a list. It’s just as easy to forget things as it is to overpack. Solve both problems at once by creating a packing list in advance. Consider in detail what you’ll need, and put it in writing. As each item gets added to the suitcase, check it off. Writing everything down creates a system to prevent leaving anything behind. And when it’s all on paper, you’re more likely to notice that you probably don’t need that many pairs of sandals. Use your personal item for extra storage. Airlines generally allow travelers one carry-on bag and one personal item. The dimensions allowed vary by airline, but the general rule of

luggage is misplaced, you probably won’t get it back that same day. So, you need to pack all essential items, like prescription medications or glasses, in your carry-on bag. Some experts even recommend tossing an extra shirt or pair of underwear in your carry-on in case your bag gets lost. You’ll be glad to have them if something goes awry. Packing smart will make for a less stressful journey. You can kick back, relax, and enjoy the trip knowing that everything you need is right there in your suitcase, and everything you don’t need is safe at home.
