GROOMING STANDARDS

DEFINITION

A grooming standard is a guideline for appropriate workplace appearance, personal hygiene, grooming ad clothing. It is based on several elements including smartness, cleanl iness, safety, hotel image and colleagues' individual ity.

GUIDELINES

It is the hotel policy during working hours that al l col leagues adhere with the hotel grooming standards and dress codes as stated in the succeeding pages. The standards are enforceable and favorable to our hotel image.

Fai lure to comply with these standards will result in disciplinary action.

The differences between uniformed and non-uniformed col leagues including gender are recognized and incorporated to provide the best interest of the hotel and col leagues. Additional and specific standards are also highl ighted for key positions and departments.

Al l col leagues must make sure he/she is clean and fresh before starting work.

Regularly wash hands and maintain good dental hygiene.

Name tags must be clean, unscratched and properly worn at al l times on the left side of the uniform. The only exception is when it is a hazard to safety or when the security col leagues are carrying undercover duties. Al l Management col leagues (M1-M6) are required to wear the Shangri -La management pin on the left lapel of the jacket at al l times whilst on duty. Jackets are not worn during the day, unless it is for official purpose. For any official activities outside the hotel , non- uniformed management colleagues should put only Management pin. A non- official activity does not require nametags and management pins.

HANDS & NAILS

Business attire should be professional , smart and tasteful in style. Shirts/blouses should complement the shirt/trousers, Undergarments or suspenders should not be visible. Skirts for ladies should be of decent length fol lowing the country ’s guidel ines (knee length) . Open-toed shoes or sl ip-on sandals are not al lowed except for male col leagues wearing dishdashas. Shoes should be pol ished and match the socks and color of the trousers/skirt . For Omani male col leagues wearing dishdashas, it is required to wear ‘ T urban’ whi le on duty, ‘Omani Cap’ is not al lowed in publ ic areas. For Omani ladies who are not wearing the hotel uniforms, abayas should be simple and ideal for office wear.

Henna painting is not permitted Exceptions: Bridal requirements, when a fami ly member is getting married and during Eid – require prior approval from Division Head.

Makeup should be light, tasteful and elegant to complement the face, attire and enhance features. Lipstick that matches the attires and overall make-up must be worn at all times. Eye make-up, blusher and mascara must be worn naturally to compliment and match the attire.

FEMALE

Keep hair clean, tidy and neatly cut in styl ish manner.

Long hair (shoulder length and longer) may be let loose. However, when meeting a guest one must ensure that the hair is neat and tidy. Hair color / highl ights must be natural to complexion & feature of the individual .

Extreme hairstyles are not acceptable.

Fringe must not be longer than eyebrow level. Long fringe must be secured in place with plain cl ips that match the hair color. Hair accessories are to be kept simple and styl ish in either black or brown or silver in color, not trendy. Head scarf must be tied and pinned neatly.

Jewelry and accessories should be used to compl iment working attire. Select earrings, necklaces and bracelets should be elegant matching to the attire.

No face piercing is al lowed.

GENERAL GUIDELINES

Avoid wearing excessive bracelets, bangles and plastic jewelries/accessories with aggressive or offensive symbols such as skul l etc. Preferred eyewear should be tasteful and smart. Avoid chunky and excessive large frames for eyewear. Contact lenses must be of natural color.

Shoes must always be wel l pol ished, in good condi tion and match with color of trousers. Female staff must wear nylon stockings or cotton socks with uniformed shoes if the weather permits. Color of stockings / socks can be nude (skin) , black or brown only.

The uniform must be properly f itted, clean and well -pressed. Wear appropriate undergarments and suspenders that are not visible through the uniform. For ladies, skirts cannot be shorter than knee length. Grey, black or skin colored pantyhose must be worn. No f ishnet or patterned stockings are al lowed. Mobile phones issued for business may be worn on uniform while personal mobi le phones should not be carried while on duty in guest contact area.

Trousers pockets should not be overstuffed. Pens should not be cl ipped onto the pocket of the trousers. Keys should be placed on a key chain & hooked onto the belt pocket, personal keys are to be left in staff lockers. For male Omani col leagues in guest contact areas; FO, F&B Service, etc, when wearing dishdashas, it is compulsory to wear ‘Turba n ’ whi le on duty. ‘Omani Cap ’ is not al lowed.

For FOH col leagues, hair longer than shoulder length must be styled accordingly based on the establ ished hairstyle to suit the uniform and concept. Ponytai l , doughnut bun or French twist is advised with appropriate accessories, subject to area of work. Al l food handlers with long hair must have it tied in a bun with a hairnet. Short hair can be fashionable but not trendy or wi ld; must be combed, kept clean, wel l- managed and regularly trimmed at al l times. The back hair length must be above the col lar.
