March 2022

Spring has sprung! Temperatures are warming up, the days are longer and brighter, and flowers are blooming. Spring is a time for renewal, rebirth, and rejuvenation. After all, on March 20, we celebrate the spring equinox. After a long winter, when spring approaches, many of us declutter our lives, both figuratively and literally, via spring-cleaning. While spring-cleaning may be a chore, it yields so many benefits mentally, physically and emotionally. Sprucing up hard-to-reach areas, dusting, reorganizing, deep cleaning, and/or taking on big cleaning projects such as patios and roofs improves the cleanliness of your home, which means you have a healthier living space for your entire family. When you declutter your home and personal spaces, you streamline and organize, too. This helps to get rid of “mental clutter,” which can lead to stress and anxiety. Organization not only makes you more productive, but also can improve your sleep and health. Taking a Look at the Importance of Spring-Cleaning Spring Has Sprung We all know it well — that amazing feeling of accomplishment after a long day of cleaning. Sliding into a fresh, clean bed feels so great. When spring-cleaning ensues, our mood is impacted and we feel positive and happy. This spring, while you’re spritzing up your home and wiping everything down, you’re actually participating in an age- old tradition. While it just makes sense coming out of a long winter, spring-cleaning is derived from both cultural and religious traditions. “While you’re scrubbing the oven, cleaning the patio, and dusting the banisters and fans, don’t forget the importance of ridding of mental clutter and all that doesn’t serve you.”

In the 1800s, spring-cleaning took place in the springtime because winter left behind heaps of soot and grime throughout the entire house. To thoroughly clean this mess, the windows needed to be opened up to let the soot out, and the weather needed to be warm to do so. In the Jewish culture, Passover, which takes place during March or April, requires cleaning out the home to rid it of any yeast bread that may be lingering in the house. In Catholic tradition, before Lent, everyone would clean their homes in preparation. Spring-cleaning also means preparing for the upcoming summer. As we enter warmer months, if you currently have winter tires on your vehicle, it’s a good idea to switch them out for summer tires to increase the longevity of your tires and to promote optimal safety. The softer tread of winter tires will wear out much quicker in the warmer months and can impact the safety of your vehicle. In the next coming months, as everything is warmer and brighter, we will all feel an increased sense of energy. The past few years have been a challenge for everyone, and as we navigate difficult times together, embracing the positivity that comes with springtime and spring-cleaning is essential. This month, what spring-cleaning projects will you be taking on? While you’re scrubbing the oven, cleaning the patio, and dusting the banisters and fans, don’t forget the importance of ridding of mental clutter and all that doesn’t serve you. A clean home is just as important as a fresh mind and spirit! Happy spring!

A PERSONAL INJURY Do You Have a Spor

The weather is warming up, the sun is out — and you’re trapped inside. Most of us have jobs that leave us stuck indoors during spring’s prime midday hours, and it’s easy to feel like you’re missing out on the season’s best parts. Unfortunately, your boss probably won’t give you the day off just because of the gorgeous weather. So, we’ve compiled the next best thing — some tips to enjoy the season as much as you can while also getting your job done. Bring the outdoors in. When the weather is nice, open as many curtains and blinds as possible. The natural light will warm up the room and brighten your mood. While you’re at it, try opening the windows and positioning yourself near one. If you can’t be outside, the spring breeze on your face is the next best thing. Plants decrease stress, and having them on your desk might also trick your brain into feeling less cooped up. Take a break. You’ve still got to work, but that doesn’t mean you can’t sneak in a few minutes outdoors. Use your break for an outdoor stroll; if possible, you can also walk or bike to work. At the very least, park farther away to give yourself time to enjoy the weather. Volunteer to do a coffee run, pick up lunch, or take out the mail — you’ll be an office hero while catching some rays at the same time. Try working outside. If your boss will allow it, there’s probably some opportunity to do a bit of work outdoors. Meetings and conference calls might offer your best option. For in-person meetings, your coworkers will also likely relish a chance to take it outdoors. In the event of a conference call, you won’t need to convince anyone else — grab your laptop and go! It’s not the same as enjoying the weather while you’re off the clock, but it’s a lot better than being cooped up inside. SPRING FEVER ENJOY WARM WEATHER WHILE STUCK INDOORS

Sports are a huge part of life, and sports-related injuries are common. Whether

you blow your knee out playing football, suffer a dislocated shoulder playing baseball, or break your ankle

playing tennis, these injuries can require substantial medical treatment. So, it doesn’t matter if you play in a

league, community pickup game, or with your friends and family in the backyard. Exercise caution to avoid injury

and protect yourself.

Most sports injuries fall within the realm of “assumption of risk.” The most common sports injuries that take place are concussions, ACL strains and tears, pulled muscles, broken bones, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, fractures, and shin splints. These injuries may be routine aspects of the game, or in some situations, there may be more to it.

With any luck, these tips will help you make it to Friday with your sanity intact. And luckily, the weekend is always just around the corner.

After getting hurt on the field or court, you might be concerned about who will take care of the medical bills resulting from your sports injury if negligence was involved, but not all sports injuries are acts of negligence. However, there are certain times when a coach, sports league, or facility may be held responsible and liable for your injury, and an attorney may be able to determine if you have a case and step in to help. Have you ever made a smoothie or milkshake, and it was too watery for your liking? Trying to thicken your beverages can be difficult; luckily, xanthan gum is made to do just that. This additive is made from corn and is produced when bacteria ferment glucose, sucrose, or lactose. Xanthan gum is used as a thickener and stabilizer in all kinds of foods. This can be used for recipes and is also used for gluten-free baked goods. You can use it in salad dressings, soups, juices, sauces, and syrups. A little goes a long way when it comes to xanthan gum — all you need is about one-fourth of a teaspoon in your recipes. Along with its ability to thicken food, there could be some health benefits to xanthan gum. Lower Blood Sugar What Is Xanthan Gum Trying to Thicken Your Meals?

At Malloy Law Offices, we can assist you in learning more about your rights and the steps you should take after a sports injury.

In a 12-week study of men with diabetes and without diabetes, experts asked both groups to eat a muffin each day and then regularly tested their blood sugar. This showed that blood sugar was lower for men who had diabetes and ate a muffin using xanthan gum. Weight Loss

Xanthan gum increases fullness by slowing down digestion — and it can make you feel fuller after eating because it’s a form of soluble fiber. Saliva Substitute For individuals who suffer from dry mouth, studies have shown that using xanthan gum can prevent dryness. You can use it in mouthwash and other products to combat the problem. Prevents Tooth Decay Several studies have shown that xanthan gum may help protect your teeth from cavities and demineralization. Relieves Constipation

Cheer on your favorite team and chow down in minutes with this easy chili recipe!

Ingredients • 2 lbs ground beef • 2 tbsp chili powder • 1 tbsp Creole seasoning

• 1 tsp ground cumin • 2 16-oz cans diced tomatoes • 2 16-oz cans small red beans • 2 8-oz cans tomato sauce

Directions 1. In a deep pot, brown the beef, stirring often. 2. Once beef is cooked, add chili powder, Creole seasoning, and cumin, cooking for 1 minute. 3. Stir in diced tomatoes, beans, and tomato sauce and bring the mixture to a boil. 4. After the mixture boils, reduce the heat to low and let chili simmer for 15 minutes. 5. Serve with toppings of choice, like cheese, sour cream, or chives.

Since it’s a soluble fiber, it’s an effective laxative. However, you don’t want to consume too much xanthan gum; some of the side effects of taking more than 15 grams a day are intestinal gas and bloating. Xanthan gum can be an additive for beverages and other foods. If you’re looking for a thicker consistency or want a gluten-free option, the choice is yours. It can be found at most supermarkets.

March Madness Origins

Published by Newsletter Pro • www.NewsletterPro.com

One of the most exciting events on the sports calendar, March Madness, takes over the month of March. From the middle of March through the beginning of April, it’s all about bracket challenges, bubble teams, and buzzer beaters. March Madness as we know it today is a single- elimination tournament. It features the very best college basketball teams, with 68 men’s teams and 64 women’s teams playing for college basketball supremacy. In 1939, the very first men’s NCAA Tournament took place, and the women’s tournament started in 1982. However, the term “March Madness” wasn’t always used by the NCAA. In fact, in 1939, Illinois high school official Henry V. Porter referred to the eight-team tournament at the time as “March Madness.” In the Illinois High School Athlete magazine, he wrote, “A little March madness may complement and contribute to sanity and help to keep society on an even keel.” However, March Madness wasn’t used in reference to the NCAA Tournament until Brent Musburger, a CBS broadcaster, used it while covering the tournament in 1982, claiming that he got the term from car dealership commercials. Are you ready for a strange fact about March Madness? According to ESPN, in recent years, we have seen a spike in vasectomies scheduled during March Madness weeks. Men who are prepared to have a vasectomy tend to schedule it during this time so they can kick back and recover while watching the madness go down!

DISSECTING THE MADNESS

This year, it will be a wild ride. Thus far, the Bruins are the most successful team in NCAA tournament history. What will unfold in 2022?
