Seven Oaks Summer Fun
Our thanks to all the members for adapting so quickly to the temporary routing of Oaks-West nine, it’s been a smooth pro- cess so far. It’s exciting to see the new bunkers being roughed in and the greens taking shape, can’t wait for December! Our junior golf program has been a great success this summer with the best attendance we’ve ever had. We started a new PGA Junior League which has been very well received and we will continue the League beyond the summer with an elite team of 8 golfers playing throughout Southern California. We really appreciate all the support of the parents for making the league happen here at Seven Oaks CC, we couldn’t have done it without you. The Road to Augusta junior program continues in full swing with over 30 of our junior golfers participating in qualifiers throughout the state of California. One of our players, Andrew Yacoub is moving on to the next qualifying level at Rolling Hills C.C. on Monday August 5 th . Andrew is 13 years of age and has worked diligently on his game. We wish him well! The MILKSHAKE league is our junior golf program where the kids play with the Pros. Our last day to play was Tuesday, July 30 th as most of our juniors go back to school the week of the 12 th . We have been teaching the kids how to play from tee to green, including all aspects of the game from full swings to short game, rules and etiquette. We also teach the honor that goes with the game of golf, score keeping, dress attire and proper decorum on the course. We enjoy teaching these skills to the kids and think it will help them be successful on and off the golf course. At Seven Oaks C.C., no matter your child’s age or ability we have a program that will suit their needs and skill level. We hope for a perfect balance of learning golf and having fun.

The construction is now moving along at a quick pace with holes changing daily. Holes 1-4 are rough shaped with the new bunkering, approaches and greens additions in place. The new bunkering will change your approach shot strategy quite a bit. A good example of this is #3, the new bunkers around the greens have been pulled much closer to the putting surface and the front right and left bunkers are now closer to the front of the green. This means that a not so good shot into the green that misses left/right or short of the putting surface may catch a bunker now. This will be the theme on most greens as well. Before, you could miss the green by 10 feet or more and not be in a bunker due to their placement so far from the green. Also, you’ll notice some interesting green surrounds and approaches as well. An example of this is #2, the approach to the right of the greens surface will now have more movement to help a well struck shot and hinder a poor shot. All of these changes will give you more options and new strategies when you play. It will be exciting for all of us to watch these changes take shape and to look forward to playing them soon. We are now in the heart of the summer heat and I am sure you’ve all noticed the staff hand watering on the course Monday-Fridays. We have brought in four additional staff members this summer just for this purpose. They are watering weak areas and areas where the irrigation coverage is not good. They will continue this through August. Also, I am sure you have noticed the turf growth in the rough areas. We have fertilized a little heavier than normal this summer to really push Bermuda grass growth, and now that the heat and some humidity are here, the turf grass has exploded with growth. We’re also working on a few projects, one being the drainage on #9 Oaks left of the green. As I write this, the old dry well has been dug out, which was clogged with soil and silt. We have installed a new dry well, larger than the previous one with all new gravel and pipe. This should dry out that area for good now.

32 players came out to play Twilight Pickleball on July 9 th ! Everyone had a great time, including members that just came out to watch the matches and enjoy beverages. We had all levels of player, from beginners to intermediate and even a couple advance players. Players were matched up to the same ability level and there were a lot a fun, competitive matches. We are looking forward to the next Twilight on August 13th!
The kids had a great time as well at Twilight Pickleball. The Nanny Network was here
to entertain with cornhole, ladderball and other activities while the adults played.
Once the competition was done, families enjoyed a little casual play and the pleasant summer night.
