Message from the President by Mike Burton, President, Board of Governors Hello Fall, good bye Summer... and what a summer it was! I don’t know if anyone else feels this way, but in some ways it has been theslowestandfastest3monthsofmy life. Iam

I hope that you all have big plans as we begin to move into our holiday season. This time of the year is so great, spending time with family and friends. Membership is at an all-time high with over 964 members. It is very important, as you all prepare for upcoming events and parties, that you reach out to Marie or Eryn for your reservations. Some exciting things are in store for Halloween! Renovations are under way at the Pro Shop and both of our clubhouse locker rooms. Upgrades to our HVAC, and our communications system have been completed. In addition, we are looking at new payroll/ human resources technology. None of this could be accomplished without our wonderful membership, our staff and the leadership of Enrique and his team. Thank you for all that you do. We were dark in August but we are full engines ahead through the rest of our calendar year. The Board of Directors appreciates the opportunity to volunteer our time to do the best we can to serve your family’s requirements. If we have not met, I look forward to meeting you soon. You are all welcome to reach out to any of our board members. We will be looking soon for new volunteers for both committees and Board of Directors. If you have a passion for improving things for our members and would like to get involved, please let Enrique know.

thankful for the Country Club that we are all members of, and the support from all of you.

Well, we’ve had quite a last few months in Bakersfield and at Seven Oaks. With the heat and air quality at all-time highs, you all still continued to support our wonderful country club. Golf tournaments started back up in September with Bakersfield Christian HS and our annual PPGA event. Basque Night on Sundays and Friday Night Live are still a big hit and our Wednesday Pasta Night is always a full house. Our Justin wine dinner received great reviews and we had wine sales of over $8,000.00. There is a lot to look forward to as we move into October, which includes our Journey tribute concert. This October 2nd event is already at over 250 attendees, but there is always room for more, so call the Club as soon as you are done reading this so you don’t miss out on all the fun! The West Nine golf greens have grass growing and we have started over seeding. I understand that all of this is an inconvenience to our members, but I am confident that the rewards will be well worth the short time off. Our two new Pickle Ball courts are now complete and the new lighting is amazing for all of our night time play. Monday night play continues to be a full house with all tennis and pickle ball courts occupied and members waiting to play. We conti- nue to focus on improvements for the entire facility, including fitness and swimming.

Stay safe, stay healthy and enjoy October. See you all soon.

Our selection for October is… Body in the Orchard by Phyllis Wachob

It wasn’t unusual to find a dead body in the orchards surrounding Bakersfield, California. So when Vermilion Blew reads in the local paper about yet one more corpse dug up by a backhoe, she dismisses the discovery. That is, until the revelation that the man had a ticket in his pocket for a movie that she had attended with her fiancé, thirty-seven years before. And that movie was the last time she had seen Frankie Monroe, the evening before her nuptials. Very has gone on with her life, or so she believes, until a slippery slope of events pushes her into a painful and mostly repressed past. When new evidence emerges about the body in the orchard, Very plunges into the murky world of identifying and tracing missing persons, and she discovers a new profession, skip-tracing private investigator. Our next meeting is October 28th at 5pm at the Club Please email Bee Barmann at [email protected] to receive information on joining the meeting.

Seven Oaks Country Club’s Rules for Good Golf Etiquette

1. Respect Other People’s Time It is very important that all players check in with the golf shop. If you will be tardy or a no show for your starting time, please let the golf shop know before. 2. Look Good, Play Good Good players are meticulous about their appearance. Always obey the dress code of any golf course that you are playing. At Seven Oaks, we require all players and their guests to adhere to our dress code. 3. Golf Cart Rules To keep our course in tip top shape year round, it is important that golf carts stay on the cart paths, especially around all teeing areas and greens. Keep carts away from wet areas on the fairways. 4. Repair the Ground You Play On Use the sand provided on the golf carts to repair your divots in the fairways. If you are walking the course, please pick up a sand bottle before you tee it up. On the greens, please fix your mark plus two others. 5. Keep Your Temper Under Control Throwing clubs, sulking, and yelling profanity makes the whole group have tension and feel uneasy. Channel your frustration in an inoffensive way. 6. Lend a Hand When You Can One of the easiest ways to lend a hand is watching your playing partner’s errant shots so they don’t turn into lost balls. The time limit for searching for lost balls is THREE MINUTES. 7. Don’t Be the Slowest Player Our pace of play expectation is 4 hours and 10 minutes or less. One of the staples in maintaining a steady pace of play is to play “ready golf”. You should find yourself right behind the group in front of you several times throughout your round.

New Pickleball Court Opening !! A full house of 36 picklers came out to officially christen the courts with some hard-core "put aways" and "cross-court dinks" at Twilight Pickleball on September 28th.

PICKLEBALL PADDLE ROTATION & THE 'PICKLEBALL SADDLE'

Scenario: All 4 Pickleball Courts are full and a foursome is now waiting for a court.

Solution: All 4 courts are now part of the Pickleball Paddle Rotation.

The group of 4 who just arrived put their Pickleball paddle into the “Pickleball Saddle”. The first court that finishes their game (up to 11- win by 2) will come off the court and place their pickleball paddle in the Saddle and the foursome waiting for the court now heads over to the open court and plays their game up to 11. At most, a few minutes will pass before another court will open and the foursome waiting will now head over and play. The foursome who just finished puts their paddle in the Pickleball saddle and waits for the next open court. During this time, only doubles is allowed, no singles play. If a group comes with 6 players, they will rotate in and out the same as a foursome. Once players leave and there is no waiting, you go back to continuous play without leaving your court.
