THE LINK BETWEEN THE MIND AND THE HEART TRUST YOUR CREATIVITY

Albert Einstein once said, “Creativity is intelligence having fun.” Have you ever wondered what your life might look like outside of a rigorous work schedule, a jam- packed home life, and the needs of a social life? You aren’t alone. I’ve often wondered what I’d do with endless amounts of free time. How would I fill my day? What type of person would I be? What hobbies would I take up? All of this daydreaming often brings me back to one theme: creativity. I rely on creativity to take me where I’m destined to go, to engage in things that truly make me happy, and to open up my mind. Creativity broadens my perspectives and teaches me how to problem-solve. May 30 is National Creativity Day, a day set aside for unleashing our imaginations, finding time for expression, and looking at things under a different lens. Creativity links our minds with our hearts and allows us to do things with a purpose. In so many aspects of our lives, we can incorporate a little bit of creativity to open up new doors and possibilities. The best part: We really don’t need endless amounts of free time either! Here’s how. GETTING CREATIVE AT HOME Boosting creative energy at home is easy. To get creative juices flowing, you can exercise

a bit, reorganize a couple drawers, or read a chapter of a book. You can even start by shifting some furniture around. After all, your mind adapts to your surroundings. Or, at times when you aren’t feeling creative, listening to music while cleaning or relaxing can trigger a bit of a creative push. Then you can dive right into a project that fuels your imagination. Whether it’s journaling, writing poetry, digital designing, painting, drawing, or playing guitar, creative activity is both relaxing and stimulating. GETTING CREATIVE AT WORK At work, start by customizing your space. If you’re able, surround your work area with things that remind you of your passions in life: your favorite hobbies, your family, your pets, or your favorite color. You want your surroundings to inspire you. If you want creativity to translate into the work you do, you need a place for ideas to roam freely. Next to your desk or on your desk, keep a white board or a note pad to scribble down ideas as they come. It’ll serve as a clean slate for brainstorming. Creativity allows for stronger problem-solving skills, collaboration, and ultimately innovation. Without creativity, improvement and growth in the workplace wouldn’t be possible.

GETTING CREATIVE IN RELATIONSHIPS In your friendships, work relationships, and intimate relationships, it’s important to embrace new experiences and shake things up a bit! The ability to tap into your creativity and embrace it as a relationship skill is a great attribute to have. Whether it’s being creative in problem-solving strategies to overcome issues that arise, being creative in planning a new and exciting date night, or being creative in how you show love and appreciation, coming at things from different directions is key! Are you currently making enough time for creativity in your daily life? When involved in the creative process, you can better see yourself for who you

really are and flourish in both your personal and professional lives.

YOU MISSED YOUR TRAFFIC COURT DATE. NOW WHAT?

THE INS AND OUTS OF FAILURE TO APPEAR

But the caveat is that if you miss that court date, you’ll be issued a failure to appear and a warrant for your arrest. When this happens, you are no longer able to choose the option to pay the fine via mail, phone, online, or in person to avoid having to appear. Once you fail to appear, the Department of Driver Services (DDS) is notified and they are responsible for suspending your license, which means you’ll be unable to drive to work, school, the grocery store, or to dinner. If you’re caught driving on a suspended license, the repercussions are severe and you’ll face jail time for a mandatory 48 hours followed by a fine ranging from $600–$1,000. If it happens a second time, you’ll receive a mandatory 10 days in jail and a bigger fine. If you’ve missed a court date or need assistance figuring out a tough situation in regards to a traffic citation you received, you can always give us a call — we are here to help! Call us today at 404-467-1747.

Have you ever been pulled over in the state of Georgia and issued a traffic ticket? If you have, you’ll know that before you can go, you have to sign the ticket. By doing so, you are promising to appear in court, and if you pay the fine, you can possibly avoid going to court altogether. If you need to reschedule that date due to important schedule conflicts, you have the option to do so prior to the court date.

LAUGH IT OFF

We’ve all seen an unlucky person on the side of the road with the police doing what looks like a standardized field sobriety test (SFST) and have said a little prayer for them as we drive by. While many are familiar with the process and purpose of a standardized field sobriety test, it’s very important to know the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has standardized three components of it in Georgia. The first test is known as the horizontal gaze nystagmus, or the “eye test.” During this test, the police officer will observe your eyes, looking for jerking movements of your eyes while you focus on certain stimuli. The problem is that some people have a natural nystagmus, whether or not they are impaired. The second test is the walk and turn test, consisting of nine heel-to-toe steps on a straight line, a 180-degree turn and nine more steps back to the starting point. If directions aren’t followed exactly, the officer may have reason to believe you are intoxicated. The final test is the one leg stand in which you must stand on one foot for 30 seconds with your arms by your side, which can be difficult if you have poor balance. These tests are voluntary! However, the police officer on scene likely will not share this information with you because they want you to take them. It is up to you to refuse them, and there is no penalty for doing so like there is if you refuse to take the breath test. By having you take the tests, the officer can build evidence against you to convict you of a DUI. Many times, clients have thought they performed well on the tests, but the police report says they failed in more than one area. The standardized field sobriety tests are designed for you to fail them, which should be even more of a reason for you to always refuse to take one! GEORGIA’S STANDARDIZED FIELD SOBRIETY TESTS WHY YOU SHOULD NEVER TAKE IT

Hate Souvenir Shopping? Let’s Make It Easy

PICKING THE PERFECT SOUVENIR

A way to preserve or share a piece of your trip is to bring home a souvenir, but choosing a souvenir isn’t always a stress-free experience. How do you pick the perfect souvenir and not just the first thing you see in a tourist shop? Here are some tips for picking a truly meaningful gift for yourself or your loved ones. WHO ARE YOU BUYING FOR? What are your recipient’s interests, or what do they spend the most time doing? If you’re buying for yourself and enjoy coffee, you might buy a local coffee blend to enjoy from home. However, if your recipient doesn’t enjoy coffee or rarely drinks it, that type of gift might not mean much to them. IS IT LEGAL TO BRING HOME? Whether you’re traveling domestically or internationally, there are many regulations that affect which souvenirs you can bring home. Even if you find the item in a tourist shop, that doesn’t mean it’ll be allowed into the country or even onto the plane. And the TSA does take this seriously. In 2012, two tourists were detained at the U.S. border for trying to bring home chocolate Kinder eggs — a specific kind that are illegal in the U.S. due to the potentially hazardous small toys inside.

PURCHASE A HANDICRAFT. Handicrafts — items created by local artisans — are awesome souvenirs! But make sure you buy where artisans actually sell their own goods, such as an open-air market. Unfortunately, while some popular tourist shops may sell “locally made goods,” many souvenirs intended for tourists are actually made by cheap manufacturers in other countries. KEEP SOMETHING FROM THE ADVENTURE. Bringing a glass bottle to take home some sand is a popular way of creating your own souvenir from a beach vacation. But you can do this with almost any item! Whether it’s stones, ticket stubs from favorite shows and activities, or a handmade item from a class, make sure to look out for souvenirs that’ll remind you of great memories and experiences.

We hope these tips will help you make the best choice. Bon voyage!
