THE VALUE IN BEING KIND TO OTHERS COURTESY COUNTS! It’s often said that courtesy is king. After all, it costs nothing and buys almost anything! September is National Courtesy Month, a time set aside to embrace being kind and courteous to others. What does being courteous mean to you? For me, it means opening the door for a stranger, remembering that the person who cut you off in thick traffic is likely just having a rough day, smiling at others, and practicing generosity. We are all human, and that means we all take on many similar tasks and agendas including eating, breathing, sleeping, exercising, creating a living, and reproducing. Behind all of the essentials and next up on the list should come common courtesy. To live together, we must be kind to each other — it goes a long way!

Coming together as a human community is the best way to overcome anything, and it all begins with courtesy for others, and it’s all about both the big and little things. Here are three ways you can make a difference that go beyond just being kind and polite: BE ON TIME. Have you ever heard that it’s rude to be late? That’s because it is! Of course, things can happen that are out of your control, but by making a conscious effort to be respectful of others’ time, you’re taking other’s schedules into consideration along with your own. LEARN THE ART OF SMALL TALK. In today’s world, we are constantly rubbing elbows with new people and meeting new friends and coworkers. Thus, it’s important to know how to create conversation on anything — not just the weather! Listen, ask questions, and be ready to learn about others! LISTEN AND ASK QUESTIONS. Are you listening to respond or listening to actually listen? Others enjoy talking about themselves and want to be heard. When speaking with others, be sure to take in what they say and ask questions. Learning about other people is fun!

“I’m blown away and my heart is warmed by the acts of kindness I see taking place all around me.”

Sometimes, I wonder if, in today’s world, are we so busy living that we forget to be courteous from time to time? Other times, I’m blown away and my heart is warmed by the acts of kindness I see taking place all around me. Police officers buy car seats for families who can’t afford them. The Make-A-Wish Foundation makes a difference in the lives of sick children every day. Citizens take care of troops overseas with generous care packages and donate to those in Ukraine. Neighbors help each other in times of need — even if it’s just a stick of butter. This month, I encourage us all to place an extra effort on practicing kindness in our lives. Over the past few years, we have endured a lot together: a pandemic, inflation, loss of jobs, and distress overseas.

These past few years have certainly not been easy, but thankfully, we have each other to lean on. Let’s work together to be a bit more present and courteous to each other. A little goes a long way!

WHICH ONE SHOULD YOU USE? SO MANY SOCIAL MEDIA OUTLETS A social media presence is essential to connecting with your company’s customers and prospects. But do you need every media platform to engage with others? Each outlet meets different needs and interests, so it’s crucial that you analyze which one will net the most engagement for your business. In fact, the demographic of your targeted audience will help you decide. Let’s look at the three main outlets customers use to discuss their needs and wants. FACEBOOK is primarily used for family-friendly content. Recently, there is an added focus on business ads for networking purposes, which can help you attract more leads. The demographic on Facebook mainly focuses on individuals who are 45 years old and older. This platform is great for businesses targeting seniors, like those in the home improvement and estate planning industries INSTAGRAM was popularized by teenagers, but now over half of its users are between the ages of 25–34. Small businesses use this outlet to share upcoming events, sales, and products because of the new business feature on the app. Relationship-building is the sole focus

for companies on Instagram because you can engage with customers through stories, live videos, and interactive polls.

TWITTER is the best place to have personal conversations, brainstorm, and share news. Over 59% of Twitter users are between the ages of 25–49, and 56% have completed some college courses or have a degree. Some businesses use Twitter to see what others are saying about their services and resolve any issues that occur. This is a great way to build trust with your customers and ensure that they know you care about their experience with you and your company. If you want to learn more about the different demographics for each outlet, go to Blog.Hootsuite.com/Social-Media-Demographics for more in-depth analysis and statistics.

DO YOU HAVE A DUI ON YOUR RECORD?

UNDERSTANDING EXPUNGEMENT IN GEORGIA

One night out turned into a series of unfortunate events and a DUI on your record — now what? Searching for or even maintaining your job with an arrest on your record can be tough and applying for housing can also prove difficult as landlords and hiring managers will take one look at your application, notice the charge, and move right past you. However, with the help of an experienced Georgia DUI expungement lawyer at Yeargan & Kert, removing the charge from appearing in these background checks may be possible! In many jurisdictions, expungement means having all traces of a charge permanently removed from your record. However, in Georgia, expungement is known as record restriction, and it is not fully removed from your record. However, the number of people who can see the charge is reduced. In Georgia, after expungement, prosecutors, judges, law enforcement officers, nursing boards, medical boards, state bars, and realty boards can still access the record.

Expungement sounds great, but here’s the catch: There are stipulations that must be met before a DUI record can be expunged. In order for an expungement to take place in Georgia, you must either win your DUI case or it must be thrown out. At Yeargan & Kert, we are here to help! We understand just how difficult it can be to have an old DUI charge haunting you on your record. Upon hiring us, we will review the eligibility of your case extensively to ensure that your attempt for expungement will likely be successful. If we believe your application will be successful, we will file all of the tedious paperwork on your behalf. Our team of experienced DUI lawyers and paralegals have been applying for DUI expungements for years and have helped many residents of Georgia with DUI charges on their records — and we are ready to do the same for you!

LAUGH IT OFF

LIGHTS ON! ABIDING BY GEORGIA’S HEADLIGHTS REQUIREMENT LAW

Police officers can’t pull you over “just because” in the state of Georgia — they must have reasonable suspicion or they have witnessed you breaking a law or committing a traffic infraction. In Georgia, there is a headlight requirement, meaning that you can be stopped and pulled over for not properly displaying your headlights while driving.

GREEN BEAN AND EGGPLANT STIR-FRY

According to Georgia’s state statute, O.C.G.A. 40-8-20, your headlights must be turned on and functioning at these times:

• If it’s raining • A half an hour after sunset • A half an hour prior to sunrise • Any time you lack sufficient visibility to see vehicles and pedestrians at least 50 feet ahead This means that even if you are driving and have sufficient visibility from street lamps or the setting or rising sun, you may be legally pulled over if any one of the previous conditions exists and your headlights are not on. It should be noted that Georgia’s headlights requirement also applies to parking lots! This means that if your vehicle has the automatic headlight feature, you must check to ensure that during these times, your headlights are still on. Oftentimes, there is ample light before sunrise or sunset and the automatic feature has not yet kicked in! If you are pulled over and cited for not abiding by the state’s headlights requirement, you may receive a ticket that results in points on your driving record and a fine. Keep in mind that a simple headlight violation gives police a reason to stop you, and if you are driving under the influence, it could possibly lead to a DUI.

In just 30 minutes, turn a pile of summer veggies into a Chinese-inspired dish.

INGREDIENTS

• 2 Chinese eggplants, cut into 1/4-inch strips • Salt, to taste • 3 tbsp vegetable oil, divided • 6 oz green beans, trimmed • 6 cloves garlic, minced • 1/2-inch piece of ginger, thinly sliced

• 1 red chili pepper, thinly sliced • 2 tbsp soy sauce • 1 tbsp vegan stir-fry sauce (like Lee Kum Kee Vegetarian) • 1/8 tsp pepper

If you were pulled over for a headlight requirement violation, give us a call right away. We are here to help!

DIRECTIONS 1. In a large bowl, add the eggplant and coat with salt. Cover the eggplant with water and soak for 15 minutes. Drain and pat dry. 2. In a wok over medium heat, warm 2 tbsp of oil. Add the eggplant and fry for 4–5 minutes. Remove and set aside. 3. Add the remaining oil and green beans to the wok. Fry for 5 minutes, then remove and set aside. 4. Add garlic, ginger, and chili before stir-frying for 1 minute. Return the green beans and eggplant to the wok and add the soy sauce, vegan stir-fry sauce, and pepper. Toss to coat, then serve over rice!

Places to Visit Similar to Montana

GET OUT AND EXPLORE

3 VACATION DESTINATIONS SIMILAR TO MONTANA

Because of the popularity of the Kevin Costner miniseries “Yellowstone,” the state of Montana is seeing an economic boom, both in tourism and real estate, as people flock to explore the natural beauty of the state. But with Montana’s increasing popularity, traveling there may not be ideal, especially if you want to avoid crowds. Here are some other destinations that offer similar sights and activities! STANLEY, IDAHO If the mountains are calling your name, then Stanley, Idaho, is the place to go! About three hours northeast of Boise, this gem has three different mountain ranges: the Sawtooth, Lost River, and Whitecloud. This trifecta is home to whitewater rafting, hiking, sightseeing, rock climbing, mountain biking, and exploring. While there’s tons to see and experience during the day, the beauty doesn’t stop at night. As Stanley is situated in the Central Idaho Dark Sky Reserve, you’re able to see so much more in the night sky, such as the Milky Way, meteors, and even planets! GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK, WYOMING In Grand Teton National Park, you’ll find many sights and wildlife similar to those seen on screen in “Yellowstone.” The towering craggy

peaks and luscious landscape do not disappoint, and sometimes there is no sign of human development for miles. It’s a truly remote and beautiful place to visit and explore. You are sure to encounter some amazing wildlife while hiking or camping — the park is home to more than 60 species of mammals and 300 species of birds. BIGHORN NATIONAL FOREST, WYOMING Specifically known for being remote, Bighorn National Forest is located in north-central Wyoming and offers over 192,000 acres of open wilderness and 1,200 miles of hiking trails to venture out on. The forest contains many meadows and grasslands surrounded by large, dancing mountains and rolling hills. The best part is that there are many different ways to explore Bighorn National Forest. Fishing, camping, mountain biking, rock climbing, camping, hunting, and horseback riding are just a few of the many ways to experience Wyoming’s beauty.

Are you ready to get out and explore these different areas of our nation’s beauty? Check some of these great destinations off your bucket list!
