Job Context
The QM Venues Team will see significant growth over the medium term (2 to 4 years) as Queen Mary grows the Estate with new teaching and accommodation coming on-line, which will bring new opportunities for the Commercial Events team to grow sales. Reporting into the Head of Commercial Operations and Venues you will be part of the Venues Management team and will be responsible for driving the sales and profitabil- ity of Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) venues and summer accommodation business. Maximising income opportunities through provision of private dining, weddings, summer schools and corporate events. You will direct line manage the sales team and are responsible for performance management, training, de- velopment and annual appraisals of the team.
Job Purpose
The Senior Sales & Marketing Manager will be responsible for pro-actively increasing income generation through clear marketing tactics, account management, setting of team SOP’s regarding enquiry responses and conversion as well as handover to the operational team. The Senior Sales & Marketing Manager, will develop a strong understanding of the product they are selling and will work closely with the Senior Events Manager to ensure both the sales and operations team work cohesively together.
The Senior Sales & Marketing Manager, will support the Head of Venues to set clear income targets for the team, set a marketing budget and oversee the ROI’s.
Main duties and responsibilities
• To give clear commercial leadership to the Sales team regarding account and client management, enquiry handling and conversion.
• To fully understand the venues portfolio across all sites and set clear charge templates for the team.
• To actively seek out business from new clients.
• Ensure that the booking system (Kinetics) is up to date regarding rates, BOH management and procedures including bookings & invoicing. • To support the Head of QM Operations & Venues in developing a Venue & Summer Accommodation strategy.
• Ensure that the Academic lets (accommodation) as well as Summer Schools and B&B rentals are managed correctly and allocated to its maximum commercial benefit.
• Oversea commercial offers and sales strategies as well as annual review of rates and packages.
• Monitor sales performance and provide clear reporting to Senior Management.
• To oversee the effective management of staff in line with the Directorate and University policies and procedures, promoting wellbeing and continuous development of all staff through management and role modelling for your direct reports particularly. • The post holder will support the Head of QM Operations and Venues in annual budget setting together with the Senior Events Manager. • Maintain effective communications and working relationships with Estates professionals, especially Catering, Timetabling as well as the Accommodations team.

Educated to degree level or equivalent professional qualification, or demonstrable previous management experience driving income generation for commercial venue and accommodation hire. Considerable experience in pro-active and re-active sales in a management position. Experience working in a similar role within the Higher Education Sector. Experience of financial reporting and delivering against a large and complex budget, gained with a public or private sector environment.
