Solaire Built is a boutique construction firm with a team that has over 75 years of combined experience building construction, fitout and refurbishment projects throughout Queensland and New South Wales. The construction industry can be complex, but our goal is to make building easy. James McElhenny, a fourth-generation builder, is a Director of both Solaire Built and Solaire Properties, which both work collaboratively to develop and deliver eco-conscious, luxury, smart homes within Brisbane’s inner-city. Following his experience at one of Australia’s largest construction companies, James’ ambition and vision led him to start his now successful construction and development companies with his brother, Paul. His goal is to prove their ability to provide a more superior service to clients than their industry counterparts. His educational background includes successfully achieving a Bachelor’s Degree from Queensland University of Technology. In addition to his tertiary studies, James also holds his Queensland Real Estate Salesperson and QBCC Project Management Services licences, that assist him in further extending his professional capabilities in the development and construction sectors. James is a resourceful and highly motivated professional. As Managing Director, he brings discipline, drive and extensive expertise in the management of highly complex projects being directly responsible for managing the Solaire team through procurement, design and delivery. Working in the building and construction industry for over 10 years has equipped James with necessary and valuable experience across a variety of sectors including residential, education, hospitality, allied health and office fitouts. James's career experience has seen him be responsible for the delivery of highly complex and quality critical projects valued at up to $7.3 million for major clients such as Central Queensland University, Jaguar Land Rover and the Commonwealth Department of Parliamentary Services. James's focus on communication, attention to detail and significant technical industry knowledge is invaluable for complex construction projects and has enabled him to lead his teams with strong and clear direction. James has an excellent and demonstrated understanding of strategic planning, coordination and management. His passion for project quality and unwavering commitment to the client relationship sees James deliver without comprise projects beyond client and company expectations.

With almost 20 years’ experience, Paul McElhenny has acquired an extensive industry background across a broad range of building disciplines in both commercial and specialized residential developments. As a fourth- generation builder he shares a true passion for building and innovation that improves the construction industry as a whole, not only to bring forward new and exciting methodologies but simultaneously creating beautiful luxury homes that leave a lasting legacy. Paul is highly disciplined with an attention to detail being second to none in the high- end architectural homes market. Quality, comfort and long- term liveability are a non-negotiable feature in any project Paul is involved with. He has a sincere love for construction management and building relationships for nearly two decades, and in recent years has turned a long-time passion towards the lure of construction and property development, which led rise to the dynamic team of both Solaire Built & Solaire Properties that you see today.

Paul is an extremely professional and well-rounded Construction Manager. Responsible for the successful execution and delivery of Solaire projects, his high level program monitoring, builders methodology and uncompromising standards ensure delivery of projects on time, every time. With more than 19 years’ industry experience including highly complex and intricate projects, Paul draws on his vast knowledge and background in methodology and scheduling to lead Solaire projects with comprehensive planning and management for successful delivery. His methodical pursuit of excellence through exceptional communication, collaboration and builders methodology has seen Paul successfully deliver a wide range of project types in both the commercial and residential sectors With a thorough understanding of company and industry policies and standards, Paul manages not only the construction process but also project finances with adapted and improved strategies for budget management. Paul has a strong track record for developing long-term relationships with all stakeholders within the design, supply chain and project management process.

Minimise project non-conformance and defects; Minimise customer / client / project stake holder complaints and issues – this may extend to building managers, authorities and the like; Increase customer satisfaction and ensure projects are delivered on time or earlier; and Increase employee training – this may extend to subcontractor training to increase their awareness of Quality Assurance on Solaire Built projects.

Solaire takes a proactive and consultative approach to the identification, management and elimination of workplace hazards and risks. Our risk management approach involves input from all stakeholders to achieve a work experience that reduces interaction risks and benefits all personnel sharing the workplace. We see health and safety as everyone's responsibility and will endeavour to maintain a positive safety culture with transparent and open system of communication between our clients, company staff, subcontractors and their workers to ensure that risks and hazards at our workplaces are managed effectively in a conscious effort to achieve zero or minimal harm to people and the environment. We believe that health and safety should be considered across the entire life cycle of our projects from design and planning, through to occupancy and ongoing use. For this reason, we always strive to engage closely with our clients and stakeholders over health and safety matters and to monitor our performance though regular reviews, client feedback, effective risk management, audits and inspections. Our focus is on continuous improvement and our policy is to elicit the same level of commitment from our clients and subcontractors to health and safety values and zero harm. We take pride in having health and safety as one of our core values and will not compromise the welfare of others in the delivery of our products and services.
A key role of our onsite management team is to engage with the occupants of surrounding buildings and residents to minimise the impact of our work and manage expectations during construction. In particular, we will draw on our experience on previous projects to identify the effective delineation of public areas and work sites using appropriate barriers and fencing. Through our people, systems and procedures, we provide the necessary level of expertise and knowledge required to deliver with minimal disruption to surrounding roadways, pedestrians and neighbouring properties. We understand and appreciate the increased challenges and constraints projects face with worksites being located within a very active and high profile inner-city environment.
In this regard, Solaire Built will always:
Provide safe and unimpeded pedestrian access for the neighbouring residents whilst maintaining emergency egress paths and service routes Erect hoardings and screens to secure and delineate the site Manage and control transport movements and subcontractor parking around the worksite Institute control measures to mitigate and suppress dust, noise and vibration to surrounding environments Solaire Built is also committed to the delivery of construction activities through environmentally responsible practices from inception to completion.
