O V E R C OM I N G H I P , L E G , & K N E E P A I N Your hips, knees, and lower legs are tough—but injuries happen. Your hips and knees are your largest joints, supporting your body’s weight. They work in close coordination, giving us the mobility we need. Between arthritis, injuries and age, however, pain can flare up. If you’re experiencing hip, knee or leg pain, call us to schedule a closer look. Before you do, however, let’s examine the pain itself. What Causes Hip, Knee and Leg Pain? Hip, knee and leg pain are surprisingly common. Thus, their source can come from a variety of things. If you’re experiencing pain in any part of your leg, pinpointing the exact spot can help you determine the cause. Sports Orthopaedic Therapy Services has pinpointed several leading causes of hip, knee and leg pain. While many causes exist, the most likely are:

In some cases, limited blood flowmay cause bone tissue death, or necrosis. If you’re experiencing redness, inflammation and immobilized joints, the condition may be severe. What Are the Symptoms? While leg pain is noticeable by a slew of symptoms, several stick out. Aching or stiffness around the hip, groin, back or thigh may be a sign of deeper problems. A decreased range of motion can also be a sign of a bigger issue, which may later result in hip, knee or leg pain. Sometimes, inactivity can contribute to immobility—and later, pain. If you’re limping, lurching or are experiencing bad balance, contact a physician. While some hip, knee and leg pains go away, those lasting longer than several months may be hinting at a deeper issue.

If you’re suffering from lower extremity and back pain, call 301.989.9040 to talk with your physical therapist today and schedule your appointment!

• Tendonitis • Pinched nerves • Osteoporosis • Cancer

• Arthritis • Dislocation • Hip fracture • Sprains and strains

While some causes are more severe than others, a physician can identify each. As the body ages, joints become inflamed. Cartilage may wear down, reducing the “buffer” between bones.

H O W P H Y S I C A L T H E R A P Y C A N H E L P In most cases, physical therapy can help patients improve their pain and function related to pain in the lower extremities. WHAT OUR PAT I ENTS ARE SAY I NG :

I had the great pleasure of having follow up therapy here after my total knee replacement surgery in 2018. Debbie Bahr, PT was my second therapist, and she made a world of difference to my healing. She is not only caring and has a truly pleasant personality, she works on your problem area and gets results. One of the best parts of the therapy sessions with her was her massages to my knee–she’s hands-on, and that’s how she gets to know what’s going on in your problem area. I enjoyed my sessions with her. The office staff is always friendly and helpful and the assistants also do a great job assisting clients.”- Susan F.

When we remodeled our facility, we endeavored to develop a clinic which is open and inviting. The color scheme and art work were included to encourage a safe-healing environment. Besides being beautiful it is extremely functional with 3200 square feet of clinical treatment area.

HAS YOUR PA I N COME BACK?

Working in her Silver Spring neighborhood now, Debbie Bahr is grateful to be closer to home rather than driving out of the county. She enjoys meeting up with previous patients who live around the corner or down the street from her home. Debbie finds relaxation in gardening and loves remembering patients and friends who have shared plant “gifts” from their own gardens. She is always ready to return the favor by sharing from her garden as well. Staying healthy, active, and full of joy has been Debbie’s goal in life, and she would like to help others achieve the same and live a long and pain free life. Debbie is very happy to be part of the SPORTS PT team now in her 43rd year practicing physical therapy. She has a special interest in myofascial release techniques, scoliosis, and postural issues, vestibular disorders and sacral/pelvic alignment dysfunctions. Through out her years of experience she has enjoyed learning new techniques adding to her skills offering the best care to her patients.

Many patients benefit from this exercise, and we hope it helpsyou, too! However, if it isnotmetwithagoodoutcome rapidly, please do not continue to perform the exercise.
