DISNEY TRIP GIVEAWAY
Refer a Friend and You Could Be Heading to the Most Magical Place on Earth
Kelly and her family visited Disney World in 2016. Her favorite ride would have to be the happiest cruise that ever sailed, called "It's a Small World.” The 10-minute boat ride travels to all seven continents with a cast of 300 traditionally dressed children singing the simple song in their native language. The grand finale shows all of the children reuniting to remind us of the common bonds of friendship, laughter, and happiness we share. Seeing the world through the eyes of a child reminds us that we are all the same. Christine Baril’s last visit to Disney World with her family was in 2004. Her most memorable moment was having dinner with Goofy for her daughter Danielle's 13th birthday. Christine, however, didn't have such
What’s your favorite Disney memory? Disney is synonymous with wonder and delight. It brings joy to kids and adults alike. It’s called “The Most Magical Place on Earth,” and talking to our team members about their memories from Disney World, it seems like they agree. With how much fun our team has had at Disney, we wanted to share the magic with our patients. That’s why we’re sending one lucky patient and their family to Disney World next summer. Tell your friends how much you’ve loved coming to Team Demas, and you’ll be entered to win our Disney Vacation Getaway. The more friends you refer to us, the higher your chances of winning. The Disney vacation includes flights, hotel, and park passes for four. You can find more details inside the newsletter.
a great birthday herself — two days later, an African jacana bird pooped on her head at Animal Kingdom! Her other two children, Melissa and Jason, still think of this moment as their favorite part of their trip. Such fun stories, right? Kelly’s makes us want to go on “It’s a Small World,” not to mention imagining Tracy’s magical wedding. Christine Blumenthal is quite the thrill-seeker, isn’t she? Would you have gone down Mount Gushmore at age 11? We might just stick to “It’s a Small World.” Tell your friends about Team Demas, and then picture yourself at your favorite Disney World spot. (Just be sure to watch out for the jacana bird.)
Tracy loves Disney World so much that she has visited the park on 25 different occasions. On April 18, 2005, Tracy married her husband, Josh, at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort. They were surrounded by family and their closest friends, and their reception was held at the 'Ohana Restaurant. Tracy and her husband spent the remainder of the week in Disney for their honeymoon. Everything was truly magical. Christine Blumenthal’s last visit to Disney World was nearly 20 years ago! Even at 11 years old, Christine was a thrill seeker. The highlight of her trip was zipping down the slushy slopes of Mount Gushmore at Blizzard Beach. With an elevation of 90 feet, Mount Gushmore is one of the tallest and fastest free-fall water slides in the world and had just opened two years prior.

Christa and her husband, Mike, would visit Disney together often. However, no prior trip could compare to visiting the park with their son, Jacob. Exploring Disney together as a family has felt even more magical and exciting each time they go.

HAVE A FUN AND SAFE HALLOWEEN! EVEN THE MOST FRIGHTENING GHOULS NEED TO BE CAREFUL
crossing, use crosswalks and traffic signals, cross streets on the corners, and never run across the street. Making eye contact with drivers before walking in front of their cars is also a good way to make sure the driver knows the child is there. CHOOSE SMART COSTUMES Halloween wouldn’t be Halloween without costumes! They should be fun, but you can also make them safer by following a few simple guidelines. Add reflective tape to candy bags and costumes and wear light colors to stand out in the dark. Buying or making the right-sized costumes is also important. If they’re too large, they create a tripping hazard, and if they’re too tight, they can restrict movement. If your child wears a mask, make sure they can see out of it properly. MAKE A PLAN Before heading out to trick or treat, create a plan and discuss it with every member of your family. This ensures that if someone in your group wanders off, they’ll know where to look for you or where to go. In case you’re separated, label your child’s costume with your name, address, and phone number. If your children are old enough to trick or treat without adults, make sure that their cellphones are charged and on them at all times, and schedule regular check-ins.
Happy Halloween, you goblins, ghouls, witches, and spooks! It’s that time of year again when kids and adults alike can dress up and roam the streets as their favorite heroes, frights, or princesses. While kids are eager to show off their outfits and fill their pillowcases with sugary treasures, it's crucial to be aware of the potential dangers on Halloween night. PRACTICE STREET SAFETY Make sure your kids understand basic road safety. According to Safe Kids Worldwide, “Children are more likely to be struck by a vehicle and killed during Halloween than any other day of the year.”
Before heading out for some good old-fashioned trick-or-treating, take the time to go over basic safety tips. Teach kids to look both ways before
CHRISTA’S SOUTHINGTON ROOTS
Christa, one of our orthodontic assistants at Team Demas, works directly with patients to make them feel comfortable while caring for their smiles. With 15 years of experience, she likes using her knowledge and skills every day to bring confidence to people’s lives. She also enjoys the team-oriented environment and great people she works with here. “I work with some amazing ladies,” Christa says. “We truly care about each other and really care about our patients. People sense that we’re like family here, and it’s true. I think all the time about what a great environment this is to work in.” In addition to working in Southington, Christa calls this neighborhood home. “I grew up here, and I know a lot of patients through family or friends. I enjoy this part of my job a lot — the interactions, being from here, and having that connection with patients,” Christa says. Christa has lived in the Southington area for most of her life. A short time living in Florida just confirmed how much she loves her home. She and her husband and son relocated to the southern state for a job opportunity. Christa says, “We ventured out. It’s a beautiful area,” but they soon realized Connecticut is where their hearts are. “We were homesick. We missed the seasons. This is home for us. This is where we want to be.”
friends, cooking, and traveling near and far. “We try to get outside and do different activities — day trips, going to the zoo,” Christa shares. “We’ve been to a few national parks. We took a road trip to Tennessee and saw the Smoky Mountains. They’re huge! It’s fascinating how big they are; the views are just beautiful. The road we went on looks over a cliff — it’s pretty intense!”
Christa and her family are looking forward to their next adventure, and in the meantime, they’re enjoying being right here — at home.
She and her family are now extra grateful for the seasons in Connecticut and the beautiful fall weather. They enjoy being outdoors, spending time with
INVISALIGN FAQ
HOW CAN I STICK TO A HEALTHY DIET WITH ONLY 2–4 HOURS TO EAT?
One of the most common questions Invisalign patients have when they start treatment is “How can I maintain a healthy diet when I’m only allowed 2–4 hours a day to eat?” Eek! We get it. That doesn’t sound like a lot of time for a very important task. You might be used to eating smaller meals throughout the day, as many patients are, and it can be tough to think about changing that habit. Let’s take a look at a day in the life of an Invisalign patient. Invisalign requires that patients wear their aligners for 20–22 hours a day for the best results. Because we’re all good at math, that leaves just 2–4 hours a day for eating, drinking, and cleaning our teeth. Here’s how that time could be broken down over the course of a day:
Factoring in time for each meal, plus two snacks and cleaning your teeth, that comes to 130 minutes a day, just over two hours. In reality, we’re probably not spending much longer than two hours each day eating as it is. The only difference with Invisalign is that you’ll want to set a more regular schedule and plan your meals ahead. Remember, you can do this! You might need to make some adjustments to your schedule and diet, but you’ll get there. In a perfect world, you’d wear your aligners every day for 22 hours. But in the real world, there might be days when you have your aligners out for longer than you should, and we promise it will be okay. Stay positive and don’t beat yourself up. Ask friends and family (and your orthodontic team!) for support and remember that you’ll get there.

THE REAL HALLOWEEN TOWN Fans of Halloween don’t need to look far to find somewhere to celebrate their favorite holiday. There are festive parties all over the world, fromNewOrleans to London, but if you really want to embrace the spirit of Halloween, there’s no better destination than the birthplace of the holiday: County Meath, Ireland. The ancient Irish weren’t trick-or-treating or visiting haunted houses on Oct. 31, but they were celebrating the pagan holiday Samhain. Over 3,000 years ago, this Celtic festival was born in Meath and marked the end of the harvest. Samhain was celebrated with bonfires, offerings to fairies, and other rituals meant to keep evil spirits away. Many of these customs carried through the centuries and inspired Halloween traditions that are still practiced today. COUNTY MEATH, IRELAND, WHERE HALLOWEEN BEGAN
Every year in Boyne Valley, the residents of County Meath throw a month-long Halloween celebration. The Spirits of Meath Halloween Festival attracts thousands of guests from all over the world, and while this festival has only been celebrated since 2009, many of the traditions observed here date back to ancient times.
Today, Meath celebrates Oct. 31 with a blend of spooky thrills and traditional Samhain practices. The Spirits of Meath Halloween Festival starts with the lighting of the first torch fire of Samhain in Athboy, which kicks off a month of fun activities. If you like your Halloween extra spooky, the scream park, Farmaphobia, is waiting for you. And if you’re not a fan of screaming your head off, you can check out the Halloween-themed Spookling Afternoon Tea for fresh baked treats and spirited conversation. The motto of this all-ages festival is “Fun by Day; Frights by Night,” meaning all the really scary ghosts wait until after sunset to come out. There are plenty of ways to celebrate Halloween, from carving jack-o’-lanterns and eating chocolate to running for your life through a haunted corn maze. And in County Meath, you can celebrate Halloween in every possible way. For more info, visit www.Discoverboynevalley.ie/whats-on/spirits-meath- halloween-festival-2018.
