ABOUT UNIVERSITY OF BRIGHTON From small beginnings in 1850s Brighton, the University of Brighton has grown to a complex and diverse institution based in two locations across the south coast of England. Starting as a school of art in the kitchens of the Royal Pavilion, it has grown to become the diverse and inclusive institution it is today. ESTATES AND FACILITIES DEPARTMENT Estate and Facilities Management manages the physical environment in which staff and students work, live and learn. Energy and Carbon Manager Head of Sustainability Estate and Facilities Management Exion 27 Building 7 (£36,382 - £43,434 per annum)

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE The Energy and Carbon Manager’s role is to manage building energy and carbon issues across our institution. This includes checks on building operational performance, energy project development, and the development, operation and reporting of the University’s net-zero carbon management plan.

LINE MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY FOR: No direct line management responsibility. MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

1. Manage the development and implementation of the university’s net zero carbon management plan, coordinating its supporting projects. 2. Identify, prioritise and develop carbon reduction and carbon offsetting projects and provide specialist technical guidance on carbon management. Develop and present supporting business cases. 3. Analyse, monitor and report on energy use, carbon emissions and expenditure. Through the use of financial, building management systems and automatic metering systems you will identify, investigate and report trends in energy use, highlighting issues with regard to poor performing buildings and recommending actions as necessary. 4. Work with Estates Maintenance team to use and develop the university’s building management systems to identify plant faults and to develop opportunities to improve building control strategies. 5. Work with the Head of Procurment, to co-manage energy and water purchasing in partnership with the university’s Procurement Services team. Analyse available market intelligence and legislative developments to advise on the most favourable purchasing arrangements and strategies. 6.
