Waiting on Legislature to Take Action

VOL 14, ISSUE 3

When you read this article, can you believe the first quarter of 2022 is in the books and spring break is in full swing? Gulf-to-Bay Blvd is not a fun place with all the extra traffic! You can tell by all of the out-of- state license plates that the visitors are back. Noelle decided that she was going to enjoy one more spring break before starting into the working world next year. As you can see from this month’s photo, she did NOT go to the beach. She and her friends from FGCU decided to head north to a cabin in the mountains. They enjoyed the beautiful surroundings of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, while hiking and afterwards spending time in the hot tub to sooth those aching muscles that were not used to the inclines! Back to Florida, the state legislature is still in session; nothing has passed yet in terms of bills to address the insurance issues we are ALL experiencing. While they have been in session, one insurance company has gone under and a second one is now in the process of going under as well. I have no idea what it is going to take for them to realize that we Floridians are in a world of hurt. They need to address the issues — and soon. If they fail to do anything this legislative session, I truly expect to see two additional insurance companies go under. Citizens Property Insurance Corporation would return to their very large size and take back their crown as a top 10 carrier (in size) in the nation. That just should never happen. Something else that is fast approaching is the hurricane season. Yes, it is coming very quickly. Just the other night, I was in Lowe’s. As I walked in, they had a sign indicating the number of weeks until hurricane season starts — and it won’t be long. With that being said, everyone needs to pull out their 2021 storm plan to review and make any necessary changes for this year. That includes making a list

of supplies you need to purchase to be prepared for this year’s season. We are waiting to see if the state legislature votes for another hurricane tax-free weekend this summer. Please don’t wait until the storm is coming to get your supplies. Don’t forget to double-check your flood policy as well, especially with all the changes this past year in flood Insurance. You can call our office for an insurance checkup. With Rays baseball starting after a delayed season, we finally have more to talk about than the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Bolts have really struggled with injuries this season. Hopefully, the light month of games in February (due to the All- Star break and Winter Olympics) allowed them to rest and recover for a strong push to the playoffs! Go Bolts and Rays! Until next month, –Darren

FIXED ANNUITIES EXPLAINED Make Them Work for You Fixed annuities are beneficial contracts with your insurance company and can be looked at as a safe place for cash to accumulate. In exchange for making one or more premium payments, the insurance company will provide an income stream (tax deferred) during retirement. Fixed annuities also provide a death benefit for your beneficiaries. One of the best parts about fixed annuities is that taxes aren't taken out while the annuity is sitting and growing. This way, more money is available to earn a return! However, whenever you decide to begin receiving income payments, the cash is subject to income tax. If you’re in a higher tax bracket and looking to defer extra income, or if saving is at the forefront of your mind but you’ve already reached your deductible limit on all retirement accounts, you may wish to consider investing in a fixed annuity. Fixed annuities are a great option because they are simple, straightforward, and flexible — you can choose to receive one lump payment or a series of payments, indefinitely if

3 INSANE EVENTS THAT HAPPENED AT AUGUSTA NATIONAL GOLF CLUB Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia, is one of the most famous golf courses in the world. The golf club was constructed back in 1933 and has enthralled golfers of every skill level. Augusta is mostly known for the Masters Tournament, one of the four major championships on the PGA Tour. In its nearly 90-year history, Augusta National Golf Club has seen some crazy events. From hostage situations to near-death experiences, there’s no shortage of unbelievable stories that have taken place on the course. Below you’ll find three of the most bizarre events that have occurred at this golf club. Ronald Reagan’s Bizarre 1983 Round Many presidents throughout our country’s history have enjoyed the game of golf, and Ronald Reagan was no exception. While Reagan was in the middle of a round at Augusta, a man named Charles Harris rammed his pickup truck through a locked gate, stormed into the pro shop, took five hostages, and demanded to speak with the president. Reagan left the course after Harris refused to speak to him over the phone, then the police handled the situation from there. Reagan returned the next day During World War II, golf was one of the last things people thought about. After seeing the bulk of their members sent overseas to fight in the war, the owners of the course came up with an alternative way to make money. They decided to allow cattle and turkeys to roam the course before they were ready for market. It took years for the foliage to return to playing shape. Death and Return At the 2018 Masters, a man named Johnny Pruitt got to live his dream by attending the championship as a spectator. He never made it to his seat though as an irregular heartbeat stopped his heart. Pruitt was taken from the course, and his heart was restarted with a defibrillator before he went into a coma. He awoke from the coma a week later, and Augusta invited him back to attend the 2019 Masters. to play an uninterrupted round. The Years Without the Masters

you wish. They can be immediate or deferred. You may begin receiving payments as early as 30 days after purchasing your fixed annuity, or you can have the payments begin at a later date. However, if you begin taking payments very early, it leaves little time for earnings to accumulate. In most cases, deferred annuities begin payments at the time of retirement. Your fixed annuity’s value will accumulate at a set interest rate. This way, the market does not influence your value one way or another. 4 Ways to Harvest Positive Vibes in Spring

Have you ever noticed that springtime just feels lighter and brighter? That’s because, believe it or not, the seasons affect us. When Spring rolls around, the energy shifts, and it’s up to us to maximize those positive vibes. Let’s examine how we can make the most of, Spring and inject some color and vibrancy into it. Rely on color. Colors have the ability to elicit certain emotions and feelings. Tropical tones and pastels are everywhere in Spring — the clear sky, grass, and flowers — so allow them to fill your space and take them with you as constant reminders to smile. If you’re up for it, wear some new colors to brighten up your wardrobe, and don’t forget to take in a sunset when you’re able! Enjoy more hours of daylight. Spring brings more hours of sunlight and warming temperatures that can give you more time to enjoy your morning cup of coffee outside. You can take an early stroll around the block, get in a workout outdoors, or just enjoy the fresh air. Also, many areas observe Daylight Saving Time, which extends sunlight into the evening, so no matter how you choose to spend your extra daylight, make it an adventure. Welcome spring-cleaning. It isn’t called spring-cleaning for nothing! Decluttering, dusting, reorganizing, and tidying up feels great! It’s empowering and refreshing. There is something special about creating more space in your living space that gets the positivity flowing. Eat fresh, colorful foods. During spring, many delicious fruits and vegetables come into season. Berries, oranges, apples, carrots, avocados, cherries, spinach, and kale are all at their peak. Your local farmers market is a great place to get the freshest produce to fuel your body! Spring is a time for new beginnings and positivity. Make the most of this Spring season by welcoming a fresh abundance of love and life.
