CHRISTMAS 2020: HOW DO CHRISTMAS TRAVEL AND HOLIDAYS LOOK LIKE DURING THE PANDEMIC

Editor’s Note December is the time of year when many of us take a break from our busy schedules and spend time with our friends and family. This downtime helps us unwind, recharge, and reflect on our lives. It also helps us appreciate the little moments of happiness, which make our lives worth living. On this month’s cover, we have Mr. Ashmit Patel- a creative artist who exhibits excellence in life and has given some remarkable performances in his movies. He is the perfect embodiment of why we need to strive to achieve brilliance with our work. We hope you enjoy this issue's articles about fitness, beauty, health, and much more about lifestyle. Our team has carefully selected the topics so that the magazine can become the perfect companion with your hot cup of tea. At BGN, we believe in the community spirit, as we connect people from all over the globe. I often find myself seeking solace in poetry, especially in the writings of the 19th-century American poet Emily Dickinson. I leave you with lines from her poem 'Hope is the thing with feathers,' wishing that we survive these challenging times and look forward to a better year.

"Hope" is the thing with feathers – That perches in the soul – And sings the tune without the words – And never stops – at all – And sweetest – in the Gale – is heard – And sore must be the storm – That could abash the little Bird That kept so many warm –

I've heard it in the chillest land – And on the strangest Sea – Yet – never – in Extremity, It asked a crumb – of me.

Yours truly, DR. SYED ARIF JAMAL

CHAIRMAN

The holidays are a festive time of the year when we share special moments with our loved ones. We reflect upon our year, show gratitude towards our blessings, and look forward to a prosperous new year. During this season of hope and joy, it is my pleasure to connect with you on behalf of the BGN staff to offer our warmest wishes for a Merry Christmas, the most wonderful time in the U.S. At BGN, our mission is to give back to our community. Our every event focuses on at least one aspect of contributing to society. In the spirit of the season, we have partnered with Toys for Thought to arrange a toy drive, where we will be donating some toys to charity organizations. It is our responsibility to acknowledge our privileges and use them to help those in need. Even a small gesture of kindness can bring a smile to someone’s face and make their day. The world is already such a scary place, so we should play our part in easing someone’s pain. If you can’t help in monetary ways, you can volunteer and

give your time and energy to help. “ It ’ s the people we hardly know, and not our closest friends, who will improve our lives most dramatically. ” Meg Jay BGN provides a networking platform where people connect over ideas and visions. When we interact with like-minded people, it helps us grow as individuals and learn from each other. Sending you lots of love and wishing you a safe holiday season filled with warm hugs and delicious meals.

Build your business success around something that you love — something that is inherently and endlessly interesting to you.

Sincerely, DR. AMBER JAMAL

I think the remedy to treat Fear is not to be afraid but gathering your strength to conquer that fear. Remember... The key to positive change is to let go of that fear. BGN is that unique platform where you can let go of your fears, show off your extraordinary talent, network with the greatest and the finest talent in the world and shine amongst the crowd!

ASHMIT PATEL ON LOVE, LIFE,

Actor Ashmit Patel has been a part of Bollywood for the past two decades. The artist values kindness and compassion, and believes in leading a healthy lifestyle. He is most popularly known for his appearance in the reality TV show Big Boss 4 and his role in the movie Murder. In a conversation with BGN, Ashmit opens up about his journey and upcoming projects.

FITNESS AND HIS FAVORITE FILMS TELL US ABOUT YOUR JOURNEY AS AN ACTOR/ MODEL?

Well, I never really modeled, but after becoming an actor, I have done a few ramp walks as a celebrity show stopper at fashion weeks across India, Bombay, Delhi, and Gurgaon. So yeah, I have done a few brand endorsements as a celebrity endorser but haven't modeled as such. Also, I started my career as an assistant director to Vikram Bhatt under Mahesh Bhatt's company. It was then that they spotted my talent and signed me for three films, beginning with Inteha, then onto Murder and Nazar. So that was the beginning of my journey, and then the rest you can follow that on Wikipedia and I guess everything would be on there. I've had a very interesting journey, and like everyone else, there's been lots of ups and downs-more downs than ups, but I think that's what shapes you and molds you. Failures always make you improve and bring out the best in you. When you're succeeding and are at the top, you can become complacent, so I am very thankful for all the failures I've had, as well as the successes. I wouldn't say it's been an easy journey, but it's been a fun journey, and I'm looking forward to the future. I have lots of projects lined up, and I'm currently shooting for my fifth web series, so there are lots and lots of work due out from November onwards, so a lot to look forward to, and I am very excited.

WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO BECOME AN ACTOR?

To be honest, I never really thought of acting as a profession. Coming from a business family in India (and being the only son), you always believe that you are going to take over the family business and have no other option, at least back in the '90s when I was growing up. So even my education was geared towards that. I studied at the University of Texas in Austin and did my degree in Business, and came back to join my dad in our family business, but I wasn't really happy. I would go to the factory and we were the largest manufacturer of audio magnetic tape at that time, but it wasn't my thing, so I requested my dad if I could do my own thing. Then I joined an investment bank and worked there for a bit, and it was very successful, made a lot of money, but money isn't the only thing in life, right? You have to be creatively satisfied and I don't think I was getting that creative satisfaction. I would visit my sister on her shoots every now and then on the weekends, and that's when I actually got exposed to the world of cinema, and I was quite intrigued by the whole process of filmmaking, and you know, the acting that actually involved so much hard work and dedication. That's when I decided that I would like to explore this as well. I joined Professor Roshan Taneja's 'Actor Prepares' where I did a six-month course and after which I joined Mahesh Bhatt's company as an assistant director, and the rest is, as they say, history. I don't really look up to any one particular person as a mentor, but I have had many along the way I try to pick up the best from everyone. I also try to learn from other people's mistakes but as we all know it's very difficult, as you actually make those mistakes yourselves you really don't learn the lesson. Sometimes we repeat those mistakes over and over again, and you know it keeps bringing those lessons to you, but until you learn those lessons, you're going to keep faltering, so yeah, no one particular mentor, but I try to learn from every human being no matter how rich, poor, old, young, experienced, and unexperienced. I think you can learn from everyone, especially children; they have so much to teach us. I would like to play myself, but from the start of my career, everyone's keep saying that Arjun Rampal and I really look alike; we almost look like brothers. So I guess just going by the physicality of it, maybe just you know the fact that we look so alike, maybe him, but other than that, I think me. Who can play me better than me?

WHO DO YOU LOOK UP TO AS A MENTOR?

IF SOMEONE WAS GOING TO MAKE YOUR LIFE INTO A MOVIE, WHO WOULD PLAY YOU?

YOUR FAVOURITE ROLE YOU PLAYED IN THE PAST?

One of my favorite movies of all time of my own is Banaras-an eternal love story. It was a beautiful film; at a very basic level, it's a love story, but there are so many layers to the film. It's a spiritual, metaphysical film, and every time I go back and watch the film (if by chance it's playing on television and I happen to catch it), I find potions of it which I didn't know or didn't notice or didn't catch onto earlier. So, I think as you grow up as a human being (as I have been growing up as a human being, evolving), I've been seeing so much more in that film because it's so layered and such a deep spiritual film-so I would say that it's one of my favorite films. And of course, Murder was a great film, and I really enjoyed working with Mahesh Butt and Anurag Basu on that film. As we all know, it became a cult film in terms of changing the way the Indian cinema looked at intimate scenes, and it was obviously a resounding success and a super hit film (one of the biggest films of 2014), so I would say that it was a good experience too, and I hold it very close to my heart. The accomplishments that I am most proud of wouldn't be like huge milestones in terms of my career or having being successful at something or having earned money. I think the small things, being there for a friend in time of need, supporting my parents when they needed me the most, taking care of someone who is down, and just being there at times- being human. I think being human is the biggest contribution we can all make to the world. We've forgotten humanity, and I think being human is the most important thing. We can forget about how famous and successful and rich we are- that really doesn't matter at the end of the day it is how much respect you've earned from people because of the humanity that you display so I think when I am available emotionally, mentally, and physically also present when my friends require me or my family requires me or even if a stranger requires just a hug. I think I am very proud of myself and I extend myself and give myself to people. Love is love, and you need to be love to receive love, so just being love is very important. Fitness is one of the most important things for me in my life. I mean, I cannot imagine my day without fitness; I need to do something physical every single day, sweat, detox my body. I am a better human being after I work out. I have more energy, I'm more focused, and just a happier person-you know, the endorphins that are released post-workout or post run, swim (or whatever physical activity I decide to do on that particular day,) just lifts my spirits completely. And yeah, the sun just seems to shine brighter after a workout, so it's very important for me. And it's more of a lifestyle for me; it's not about the narcissistic aspect of it, like how good I'm looking, it's about how good I feel.

WHAT ACCOMPLISHMENTS ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF?

HOW IS FITNESS IMPORTANT TO YOU?

ANY SPECIFIC DIET YOU FOLLOW?

I don't follow any specific diet. Over the years, I have tweaked my diet based on how I feel after eating certain foods, and I've learned to understand my body. I know what works for me and what doesn't work for me, and it also depends on what character I am playing-if I want to put on weight or lose weight, build a six-pack, or have a normal layman's body. I change my body around, so my diet would change according to the characters I play, but I usually just eat really clean. I have, of late since January, turned vegetarian-actually Ovo vegetarian, which basically means I eat eggs once a day in the morning for breakfast. Other than that, I am vegetarian, and I feel so much lighter and better. I would recommend it to everyone who can do it. Try it and see if it suits you; it has done wonders for me. I think the way the world is connected today, everything is global, and you know we are really one community, one world, so yeah, networks like yours which bring people together- like I am sitting here in India talking to you guys over voice notes, you'll are on the other side of the globe, and you'll are doing an interview with me, which is amazing. So yeah, it's great that we have technology that has made communicating so easy. It also has its downside, but definitely, if you just focus on the pros, we can build a better world, so hats off to people like you, to BGN, who is connecting people from across the globe. I think it's great that BGN is bringing together influencers from different fields; like I was saying, the world is now one place, it's one market its one world really, so it's really important and crucial that you network with people and synergize with people and if a network like BGN is making that easier for people from across the globe to connect to each other, that's even more amazing. So it's a great initiative, and I'm thankful that I have had the privilege of being one of your guests. I am guessing fitness influencers and entertainment influencers, and I am looking forward to connecting with more people that you all feature, and maybe we can synergize on some things too, so yeah, I am really looking forward to it, and thankyou BGN for this opportunity.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT SUCH A GLOBAL NETWORK LIKE BGN?

DO PEOPLE OF CREATIVE TALENT HAVE GOOD BUSINESS ENTREPRENEURSHIP NETWORKING SENSE?

By large, I think we don't, but there are a few people who have been able to find that balance of creativity and entrepreneurship and handling business, but the smartest thing would be to get a good partner or a good manager. For actors get a good manager, who can handle the business aspect of things because when you are a networking person, you need to be a bit shrewd and smart when you do business and when you are a creative person, you usually are just very real and open and not really thinking about how a situation can be twisted or manipulated to your benefit, but there are few people who can do that. I am very bad at it, and I am not the best at it, so I usually get other people to do my business dealings, and I have business partners in my production house who handle the business aspect of it. I am really good at numbers and things like that because I did do a degree in business, so I am really good at all of that, but there are few things which I am not good at, such as negotiations. I'm really honored to be on the cover of BGN, and I'm looking forward to reading the magazine. And yeah, I don't know what strengths I have to be on the cover, but I guess there must be something. Why don't you guys tell me why you all chose me? Cheers!

FRONTLINE EMPLOYEES IN THE US WHO ARE WORKING THE HOLIDAY SEASON AMID THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Amazon said on Thursday it would spend more than $500million on one-time bonuses for its frontline employees in the United States who are working the holiday season amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Full-time operations staff in the US who are employed by Amazon from December 1 to December 31 will receive a bonus of $300, while those in part-time roles will get $150, the online retailer said in a blog

post written by Dave Clark, the senior vice president of Amazon Worldwide Operations. 'I'm grateful to our teams who continue to play a vital role serving their communities. As we

As we head into the peak of the holiday season, we want to share our appreciation through another special recognition bonus, totaling more than $500 million for our front-line employees,' the post reads. According to the post, combined with other holiday pay incentives, in this quarter alone Amazon is investing over $750million in additional pay for their frontline hourly workforce. 'This brings our total spent on special bonuses and incentives for our teams globally to over $2.5billion in 2020, including a $500million thank you bonus earlier this year,' Clark said. Clark was referring to the company's earlier round of one-time bonuses in June when Amazon spent $500million in one-time payments to front-line employees and partners. 'Our teams are doing amazing work serving customers' essential needs, while also helping to bring some much-needed holiday cheer for socially-distanced

families around the world. I've never been more grateful for—or proud of—our teams,' he wrote. Several retailers, including Walmart and Home Depot, have spent millions in bonuses to compensate staff for catering to a surge in online shopping during the pandemic. The world's largest online retailer has been facing intense scrutiny from US lawmakers and unions over whether it is doing enough to protect staff from the coronavirus. Over the summer, a guillotine was set up by protesters outside the Washington, DC, home of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos. Videos posted to social media at the time showed an old fashioned piece of apparatus commonly used for beheading during the French Revolution. A sign placed underneath read: 'Support our poor communities. Not our wealthy men.'

A report from the Institute for Policy Studies (IPS), revealed Bezos has added an incredible $70.7billion to his wealth since mid-March, while an estimated 20,000 of the company's workers have been infected by the coronavirus.

Bezos has seen his net worth grow by 61 per cent from $113billion to $182.4billion since March yet his workers do not receive hazard pay. Workers have spoken out about their treatment as their boss's profits grow further. 'While Amazon's Jeff Bezos is on track to become the world's first trillionaire, the frontline workers like me who've built his fortune are treated like we're disposable,' said Courtenay Brown, an Amazon Fresh warehouse worker in New Jersey and leader with United for Respect. 'As the virus spikes, we get more and more orders, and Amazon expects us to work at inhumane rates. The pace is blistering, and people get injured on the job a lot, people get sick, people are scared of catching COVID, and Amazon is not doing enough to protect our lives. 'It's time for Amazon's workers to get some actual compensation for the essential work we're

doing — we don't need feel-good TV commercials thanking us for being heroes, we need $5 an hour in hazard pay, paid sick leave, and workplace protections from this dangerous virus.' 'These billionaire owners are like military generals sitting in protected bubbles sending their workers into the viral line of fire with insufficient shields,' added Chuck Collins from the Institute for Policy Studies and co-author of the report. 'It is sordid and unseemly for some to reap such rewards when millions risk their lives, their long-term health, and their livelihoods.'

unveils his national security team including John Kerry as climate czar - with promise of radical change from Trump era and a big welcome for refugees America is back':

President-elect Joe Biden unveiled his national security team on Tuesday, declaring 'America is back' and ready to lead the world, demonstrating the changed diplomatic tone his administration will take compared to President Donald Trump's.

his six choices stood behind him on a stage at The Queen theater in downtown Wilmington, spread out in order to socially distance and wearing face masks. He said his choices - which include the first woman to lead the intelligence community

Biden named his staff for the nation's security first, stressing the importance of the positions, but additional Cabinet picks are expected to be announced in the next few weeks. 'It's a team that reflects the fact that America is back,' the president-elect said as

and the first Latino to lead the Department of Homeland Security - are 'ready to lead the world, not retreat from it. Ready to confront our adversaries, not reject our allies. And ready to stand up for our values.' In his remarks, Biden got in a dig at Trump's 'America first' policy that took more of an isolationist approach to global affairs. 'In calls from world leaders in the weeks since we won this election,' he said, 'I've been struck by how much they are looking forward to the United States reasserting its historic role as a global leader.' Biden has spoken to leaders of America's major allies, including the United Kingdom, France, Israel, Canada, India, the European Union and NATO. He touted the diversity of his team, which includes Avril Haines as the first female Director of National Intelligence; Alejandro Mayorkas as the first Latino to head

the Department of Homeland Security; Linda Thomas-Greenfield, an African-American who grew up in segregated Louisiana, for his U.N. Ambassador; and the nation's first ever principal on the National Security Council to fight climate change - a position to be held by former Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry. But one thing they all have in common is ties to the Obama administration - Biden's way of signaling to the world of a return to more predictable diplomatic engagement. The posts to be held by Kerry, Sullivan and Haines do not require Senate confirmation. The Biden team kept to COVID protocols during the event. A staffer ran up a set of stairs onto the stage to wipe down the podium between each person's remarks. Biden and his team wore face masks except when they spoke - although a few people forgot their mask on the podium when they were done and had to return to retrieve it.

Here's the Biden national security team:

Special Presidential Envoy for Climate

Kerry, who served as secretary of state under Obama and the Democratic Party nominee in 2004, is to be Biden's climate czar. The two men are longtime friends. They overlapped for years in the Senate and share a focus on international issues. Kerry also helped negotiate the Paris Climate Accord as well as the Iran nuclear deal, which both became targets for President Trump.

He will be Special Presidential Envoy for Climate and will serve on the White House national security counsel. 'For the first time ever, the United States will have a full-time climate leader who will participate in ministerial-level meetings — that's a fancy way of saying they'll have a seat at every table around the world,' Biden said in his remarks. He touted Kerry's credentials for the job and their close, personal relationship. 'The world will know that one of my closest friends — John Kerry — is speaking for America on one of the most pressing threats of our time,' he said. Kerry praised Biden for his commitment to the environment and for his pledge to return the United States to the Paris Climate Accord on the first day of his presidency. 'You're right to rejoin Paris on day one, and you're right to recognize that Paris alone does not get the job done,' he said.

He plays in a Parisian jazz band and is married with two young children. In his remarks, Blinken thanked his family, including his father Donald, the former U.S. ambassador to Hungry, and his mother Judith Pisar, who was a major figure on the New York arts and social scene. And then he told the story of his step-father, a Jew who survived a concentration camp as a child. 'My late step-father, Samuel Pisar, was one of 900 children in his school in Bialystok, Poland, but the only one to survive the Holocaust after four years in concentration camps,' he said. 'At the end of the war, he made a break from a death march into the Bavarian woods. From his hiding place, he heard the rumbling sound of a tank. Instead of an Iron Cross, he saw a 5- pointed White Star.' 'He ran to the tank. The hatch opened. An African American GI looked down at him. He fell to his knees and said the only three words he knew in English that his

Kerry's new position does not require Senate confirmation.

Secretary of State

Biden noted Blinken, one of his longtime advisers, comes from a family of 'immigrants and refugees' that include 'a Holocaust survivor who taught him to never take for granted the very idea of America as a place of possibilities.' Blinken worked for Vice President Biden before moving over to become Barack Obama's deputy national security adviser and then the administration's deputy secretary of state.

mother had taught him: God Bless America. The GI lifted him into the tank, into America, into freedom.' Blinken concluded: 'That's what America represents to the world, however imperfectly.'

The president-elect also wished him a happy birthday. 'And one more thing — today is his birthday,' Biden said. 'Happy birthday. He's 21,' he joked. Mayorkas pledged to restore moral at the department, which has seen several chiefs move through its halls during the Trump administration and struggled with Trump's desire to keep illegal immigrants from crossing the U.S.-Mexico border. 'The Department of Homeland Security has a noble mission: to help keep us safe and to advance our proud history as a country of welcome,' he said. 'There are more than selflessly dedicate their talent and energy to this mission. Many risk their lives in doing so. I would be honored to return to the Department and support these dedicated public servants in fulfilling their responsibilities and 240,000 career employees who realizing our country's greatest hopes, all in

partnership with the communities we serve.' He could be one of the more difficult confirmations for the Biden team. When he was deputy secretary every Republican senator voted against his confirmation and he was only confirmed because Democrats controlled the chamber at that time. A former U.S. attorney, President Obama nominated him to be the Director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, the agency that administers the legal immigration system. But, during his tenure, Mayorkas was repeatedly accused of political favoritism when granting 'Green Cards to wealthy foreign investors' - an issue that could come up in the confirmation process.

Secretary of Homeland Security

Mayorkas,a Cuban American, is a former deputy secretary for the department and will be the first Latino to lead it. 'While DHS affects everyone, given its critical role in immigration matters, I am proud that for the first time ever, the Department will be led by an immigrant, a Latino, who knows that we are a nation of laws and values,' Biden said.

railed against them for what he called 'spying' on his 2016 campaign and casting doubt on their findings that Russia influenced the 2016 election. 'We have worked together for a long time, and I accept this nomination knowing that you would never want me to do otherwise — that you value the perspective of the Intelligence Community and that you will do so even when what I have to say may be inconvenient or difficult. I assure you there will be those times,' she said to Biden. And then she added: 'To our intelligence professionals, the work you do — oftentimes under the most austere conditions imaginable — is indispensable. It will become even more complex because you will be critical to helping this administration position itself not only against threats such as cyber attacks, terrorism, and the proliferation of nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons but also those challenges that will define the next generation — from climate change, to

pandemics, and corruption.' She has a colorful employment history. In the 1990s, she ran an independent book store in Baltimore that was known for having an unusual collection of literary offerings, local writers, erotica reading nights, and small press publications. The store hosted a number of literary readings, including erotica readings, which became a media focus when she was appointed by Obama to be the Deputy Director of the CIA. After graduating high school, Haines traveled to Japan for a year and enrolled in Kodokan, an elite judo institute in Tokyo. While attending the University of Chicago, Haines worked repairing car engines at a mechanic shop in Hyde Park. In 1991 Haines had taken up flying lessons in New Jersey, where she met her future husband, David Davighi.

Director of National Intelligence

Haines will be the first woman to hold the position, which does not require Senate confirmation. Biden described her as 'Brilliant. Humble. Can talk literature and theoretical physics, fixing cars, flying planes, and running a bookstore cafe, in a single conversation — because she's done all of that.' Haines praised the intelligence community repeatedly in her remarks. That group took a beating in the Trump administration when the president

'Mr. President-elect, I've often heard you say how all politics is personal. That's how you build relationships of trust and bridge disagreements and find common ground,' she said. 'In my thirty-five years in the Foreign Service across four continents, I put a Cajun spin on it. It's called Gumbo diplomacy. Wherever I was posted around the world, I'd invite people of different backgrounds and beliefs to make a roux, chop onions for the holy trinity, and make homemade gumbo — my way to break down barriers, connect with people, and start to see each other on a human level: a bit of lagniappe as we say in Louisiana,' she added. Her return to public service is something of a triumph. In 2017, when she was a deputy secretary of state, she was terminated by the Trump administration as part of a purge of career officials. In her remarks, she voiced the philosophy of the Biden administration:

'I want to say to you: America is back. Multilateralism is back. Diplomacy is back.'

National Security Adviser

Biden noted her long tenure of 35 years in the Foreign Service and her Louisiana roots. 'The eldest of eight. Her Dad couldn't read or write, but she says he was the smartest person she knew. First in her family to graduate from high school, then college, with the whole world literally ahead of her, as her Dad and Mom taught her to believe,' he said. And Thomas-Greenfield described her 'gumbo diplomacy' approach to foreign affairs.

Sullivan served as Biden's national security adviser when Biden was vice president. His position does not require Senate confirmation. We need to invest in our people, sharpen our innovative edge, and unite the economic might of democracies around the world to grow the middle class and reduce inequality — and do things like counter the predatory trade practices of our competitors and

' Biden said of what he tasked Sullivan with doing. In his remarks, Sullivan noted that Biden tasked the team with 'putting people at the center of our national security. The alliances we rebuild, the institutions we lead, the agreements we sign — all of them should be judged by a basic question: will this make life better, easier, safer, for working families across this country? Our foreign policy has to deliver for these families.' His wife Maggie served as a senior adviser to the late Senator John McCain. Sullivan worked for Hillary Clinton in the State Department and was an adviser to her 2016 campaign.

Practice Gratitude

Do you remember how your life was when you were a child? We were not jealous of anyone, didn’t care what others might think about us, didn’t keep the things at heart, and be jealous or envious. One way to find or maintain happiness is to remember the kid you were and play the game of life, it becomes easier. Let the child in you always be with you No question, merely watching acts of kindness creates a significant elevation in our moods and increases our desire to perform good deeds. Kindness is indeed contagious, and when we commit to being kind to ourselves and others, we can experience new heights of joy, happiness, and enthusiasm for our lives. Always carry kindness in your pocket

We often cry about the spilled milk and keep complaining about the things or moments that we don’t have. How many times do we say the words- Thank you, in a day? How many times do we hear the same words? If we start practicing the first thing, the latter will eventually happen. Learn to be grateful, and you will be open to receive an abundance of joy and happiness.

to have a few moments to reflect on the day and focus on a problem you have been trying to solve or brainstorm on your next big idea. At the end of the day, you will be more content, at peace, and happy. Take the time to begin to notice what’s right and see the world changing in front of your eyes.

Pause in life

There are times when we need the time to unwind or decompress. Time keeps on going at its own pace, which might not always be the pace we would choose. Fatigue, stress, and exhaustion may begin to settle in on us faster than we think or notice. The best way is to pause and think and review and then plan.

happiness. Learn to spend time with your friends and make friendships a priority in your life. Smile with them, celebrate with them, learn from them, uplift them, and be with them when they need you.

08 Set goals

Sometimes we have to fake it until we make it. I am not suggesting that we not be honest, real, or authentic, but sometimes we just need to put on a happy face and keep moving forward. Researchers claim that smiling and looking like we are happy will indeed make us happier. Studies further show that if we act like we are in a good mood, then we can experience greater joy and inner peace in our lives.

The absence of goals in our lives, or more specifically avoiding to pursue our dreams, makes us feel stuck. The pursuit of goals in our personal lives in our relationships or with our careers is the difference between having a mediocre life or a life full of passion and enthusiasm, pursue your goals and watch your happiness soar.

Finding your calling may be much more than accomplishing a straightforward strategy for increasing your happiness, but having a sense of purpose-of feeling like you are here for a reason-can perhaps bring the greatest joy for all. 11 Knowing when to say what gives you joy and happiness the first time may not work the second time. Too much of a good thing may begin not to feel as good if the thing “thing” becomes more of a routine or an expectation. Set healthy and reasonable boundaries for yourself, and don’t overdo it. In 2021, try practicing these habits, and then happiness will come your way. Excess of everything is bad

PROTECTING YOUR

DURING THE

coronavirus (COVID-19) has resulted in an unprecedented crisis that affects our physical health, daily lives, and mental health. The pandemic has been stressful for people. Fear and anxiety about a new disease and what could happen is very overwhelming and cause strong emotions in adults and children. Public health actions, such as social distancing, can make people feel isolated and lonely and increase stress and anxiety. However, these actions are necessary to reduce the spread of COVID-19. T e

Coping with stress in a healthy way will make you, the people you care about, and your community stronger. Mental health is important because it can affect every aspect of your life. This includes your job, your marriage, your relationship with your family, and your general wellbeing. When you’re experiencing mental health issues, it may seem impossible to complete even the basic tasks or care for children. Mental health can also impact your physical health. For example, chronic anxiety and stress can harm your heart, particularly if you already have an illness like high blood pressure. While everyone has periods of depression or anxiety, when these escalate to the point that it is difficult to function in day-to-day life, it is time to get help from a qualified mental health counselor. Taking care of your friends and your family can be a stress reliever, but it should be balanced with care for yourself. Helping others cope with their stress, such as providing social support, can also make your community stronger. During increased social distancing, people can still maintain social connections and care for their mental health. Phone calls or video chats can help you, and your loved ones feel socially connected, less lonely, or isolated. Stress during an

infectious disease outbreak can sometimes cause the following: Fear and worry about your health and the health of your loved ones, your financial situation or job, or loss of support services

Changes in sleep or eating patterns Difficulty sleeping or concentrating Worsening of chronic health problems Worsening of mental health conditions

Increased use of tobacco and/or alcohol and other such substances

TAKE CARE OF YOUR MENTAL HEALTH

Mental Health is an essential part of overall health and wellbeing. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It may also affect how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices during an emergency. People with preexisting mental health conditions or substance use disorders may be particularly vulnerable in a crisis. Mental health

bipolar disorder, or schizophrenia) affect a person’s thinking, feeling, mood or behavior in a way that influences their ability to relate to others and function each day. These conditions may be situational (short-term) or long-lasting (chronic). People with preexisting mental health conditions should continue with their treatment and be aware of new or worsening symptoms.

If you think you have new or worse symptoms, call your healthcare provider. Call your healthcare provider if stress gets in the way of your daily activities for several days in a row. Free and confidential resources can also help you or a loved one connect with a skilled, trained counselor in your area.

WAYS TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR MENTAL HEALTH DURING COVID

1. Limit the Amount of News You Watch

Of course, it’s crucial to stay informed, but sometimes the constant streaming of news stories can be too much. After a while, they can be extremely upsetting, and watching the 24-hour news cycle can create a lot of anxiety—instead, schedule time to watch something fun. Maybe there’s a movie you’ve always wanted to see on Netflix. Perhaps you want to revisit a funny movie you have on DVD. The important thing is to make sure you don’t suffer from information overload. Give your mind a break and let it have a chance to “have fun” through more uplifting entertainment.

2. Take Care of Yourself Physically

Physical and mental health are closely intertwined. To help protect your mental health, you should also safeguard your physical health. This includes: Avoiding junk food

Eating healthy meals Getting enough sleep Exercising regularly

Avoiding excessive alcohol use Taking medication as prescribed

Social distancing has transformed your social life, but that doesn’t mean you can’t stay in touch with those important to you. Phone calls help, but sometimes you need to see a face. Utilize video chat programs such as WhatsApp, Skype, and Zoom to keep communication lines open. You may find it therapeutic to reconnect with old friends or relatives you may have lost touch with through the years. 3. Talk to Other People

4. Talk to a Counselor

There are several qualified mental health counselors available to help you. If their offices are closed during COVID, many offer virtual appointments. Remember that not everyone responds to stress in the same manner; this is why it will help make a list of things you’d like to talk to the counselor. Discuss your worries about yourself or others.

5. Be Sure to Do What You Enjoy

Sometimes the anxiety of the unknown makes it easy to forget the things you love to do. Make a list and plan to participate in as many as possible. Granted, you may need to make adjustments based upon current guidelines. For example, if you enjoy basketball with friends, you won’t be able to participate in this activity. However, perhaps you can join those same friends for a walk in the park (remember to practice social distancing!). Remember that there are often creative ways to still participate in the things you love. Here’s another example: If you enjoy meeting with your book club, organize a meeting through Zoom or another conferencing program.

6. Practice Meditation

Studies have shown that meditation relaxes both your body and mind. All you need is a quiet location, a comfortable position, and an open mind. How does meditation help? Studies show that meditation:

Can help relieve stress Gives you tools to manage stress Reduces negative emotions or attitudes Nourishes creativity Helps you be more patient Allows you to focus on the present clearly

Long-term research is still ongoing to see if meditation is an excellent complement to traditional treatment. Talk to your doctor about whether or not this would be a good activity for you. The Mayo Clinic provides this handy guide to meditation. Of course, what better way to stay in touch with people than through Facebook or Instagram? There are several great benefits of social media, but it also has some drawbacks. Many well-meaning friends may spread information that is false or misleading. Just because you saw it on social media doesn’t mean it’s true. The last thing you need is stress caused by questionable information. If you’re looking for a good source of reliable information, try the Centers for Disease Control or the South Carolina Department of Health 7. Use Social Media Carefully

Tips For A Safe Workout Outdoors

Getting out of your cozy bed is a challenge in winters, especially for exercise. However, once you get motivated to move your body, protect yourself from not getting ill. Take extra care of your clothing, skin, and even your water intake when you exercise outdoors.

Refrain from wearing warm clothing during winter workouts. Instead, wear layers, so you don’t feel too hot and not catch a cold. After the exercise, you may feel much warmer than it is, and when the sweat gets evaporated, your body will cool down. You can remove a layer when you sweat and wear it back on once your body temperature returns to normal.

Many people make the mistake of skipping sunscreen in winters, especially when it’s not sunny outside. The UVA UVB rays can still harm your skin and give you a sunburn. So before heading out of the house, wear sunscreen and put on lip balm.

This one goes without saying. Working out in the dry weather can make you dehydrated, so drink plenty of fluids. Just like summers, our body needs an ample amount of water in winters to function correctly. Keep a water bottle with you, so you can hydrate yourself after your workout (even when you don’t feel thirsty).

Investing in the right accessories doesn’t just give you bonus fashion points but will also lower the chances of frostbite. You need to cover your head, ears, hand, and feet if you experience harsh weather conditions. Wear a thin pair of gloves, socks, comfortable shoes (which are not too tight), and a scarf or headband to protect your ears. These tips can help you have a safe workout while enjoying the chilly weather. Monitor your body after exercising and cut it short if the weather conditions become extreme.
