AUGUST 2021

Aug.1 is National Mountain Climbing Day — and while not everyone will climb a mountain in their lifetime, almost everyone has experience fighting some type of uphill battle. For many of our clients, their criminal case is one of the biggest life hurdles they’ll face. Luckily, they don’t have to fight it alone — but there’s a good reason why criminal law can be so challenging compared to other fields of law. When people come to us with criminal charges, they’ve often been arrested under probable cause. This means that the officers involved have found reasonable grounds to believe that a crime has been committed. Therefore, every criminal case we take on is an uphill battle from the start. It’s a relief when people realize a lawyer can make these situations much better (or make them go away entirely). However, I often encounter a common misbelief that criminal defense lawyers are hired just to find loopholes in the law — but it’s actually for our ability to examine all of the facts and to make sure our clients rights are protected by the constitution along with state and local laws. People can make mistakes all the time, including law enforcement and our court system. As scholars of constitutional and criminal law, it is our job to study and make sure the government didn’t skip over a procedure or fine print which would affect your case and, therefore, lessen or dismiss your charges. In criminal defense cases, it’s especially easy for unexpected challenges to occur. For example, even when we think we have an excellent DUI defense case, the court may pose some reason A Fact Most People Don’t Know About Our Field How Does Criminal Defense Actually Work?

for suppressing our evidence, or it may seem like the court won’t side with us after the initial evidentiary hearing.

When our clients hear about these setbacks, it can be stressful and disheartening. However, with our expert legal team on your side, we can reassure you that you’ll just need two other things to get through this: patience and trust. Patience, coming from someone who’s been through this process hundreds of times, is paramount. The criminal justice system is complex and it takes time to navigate. Rest assured that we will pursue every opportunity to get your case dismissed, and if that’s not possible, we will do all we can to ensure that you receive fair treatment throughout the legal process. Place your confidence in our expertise and dedication to our field, and know that we will work our hardest to get you the best result possible. When you entrust your criminal case to my firm, you’ll get our personal attention and one-on-one service throughout the process. We understand the stakes of your case very well, and we hope you know that, even though your case may be an uphill battle, we fight to win.

Movie Theaters in Post-Pandemic Times Will a Night at the Movies Change Forever?

Out of all the businesses hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, few were affected more than movie theaters. For the past year, as movies have debuted on streaming services rather than in theaters, many industry leaders, critics, and theatergoers alike have raised the alarming question: Did COVID-19 kill the movie theater industry? In short? No. Not by a long shot. Though the past year has left the industry somewhat beleaguered (AMC closed 60 theaters permanently, Cineworld reported losses totaling $2 billion, and the Alamo furloughed more than 5,000 employees). Yet, despite all of this, a night at the movies is here to stay. When a Vox reporter reached out to various moviegoers about whether they would attend theaters once the pandemic ends, many of them said yes because streaming a film in their living room just can’t provide the same experience.

Download These Books Today ! When it comes to the legal process, you may have a lot of questions. Well, I have answers! Right now, I am offering my two resource books for free. YOUR LEGALRESOURCE it with the whole theater. Comedies are funnier when you laugh with others. A hero’s triumphs are more spectacular when you cheer them on together. (Who didn’t go nuts when Captain America caught Thor’s hammer in “Avengers: Endgame”?) When you leave the theater, you feel a little closer to the strangers around you, and having been immersed in the movie alongside your friends, you can discuss how you liked the movie on the way home. Of course, movie theaters will still change as a result of the pandemic. Theaters are working to become more digital, some even moving to eliminate paper tickets and creating options to order concessions before your arrival. More theaters may promote private viewings of movies so people can be more careful about whom they watch movies with. Some theaters are also trying to create more of an “experience” for moviegoers by offering a wider array of food and even comfier seats. However, these changes, especially given the circumstances of the past year, are hardly surprising. The movie theater industry has been evolving for over 100 years, and it certainly won’t stop evolving now.

Watching a movie in a theater completely immerses one in the experience — you can’t pause the film to watch later or do chores. And you’re in

IS YOUR DRIVER’S LICENSEAUTOMATICALLY SUSPENDED FOR DUI IN FLORIDA? Yes – Here’s What to Do Next

Work Purpose Only This restricts your driving to employment-related activities only.

Having your driver’s license suspended or revoked can be one of the most frustrating consequences of being arrested for driving under the influence (DUI). If you were arrested for getting a DUI in the state of Florida, chances are your license was immediately revoked by the arresting officer. For the next 10 days following the arrest, time is of the essence. Within Florida’s 10-day DUI rule, you have only 10 days to challenge the administrative suspension (aka when an officer suspends your driver’s license). If you fail to do so, you can lose your license anywhere from six months to indefinitely. At your administrative review hearing, your lawyer may be able to provide compelling evidence depending on your case, such as unlawful stop or arrest, no refusal or lawful refusal to a field sobriety test, or inaccurate blood alcohol content (BAC) results. If you prevail at your administrative review hearing, you may be able to get your license back. If not, the administrative review judge has the ability to grant a 42-day temporary hardship license which will give you limited driving privileges.

How to Get a Hardship License in Palm Beach and Broward Counties

Believe it or not, your driver’s license can be suspended TWICE for one DUI charge. Even if you serve your administrative suspension, you may face another license suspension if you are convicted of a DUI at your criminal trial. In Florida, if you are a first-time DUI offender and have completed your administrative suspension, you can be granted a business-only hardship license for the remainder of your suspension. If you have a prior DUI conviction and get convicted of driving under the influence again, you have a much larger problem at hand and will not be eligible for a hardship license. You must serve the entire sentence of your suspension before operating a motor vehicle again. If you ever find yourself in this situation, please give our office a call so you don’t have to fight this battle alone!

The two forms of hardship licenses in Florida are:

Business Purpose Only This restricts your driving to necessary activities related to your livelihood, which can include your work commute, school, on-the-job driving, food, religious, and/ or medical visits.

Want to Save on Your Next Vacation?

5 Tips for Your Next Affordable Getaway

Are you excited to explore the world again? Or maybe you’ve just gotten back from your latest vacation! In either case, the economic challenges of the pandemic might require travelers to plan their trips a little smarter. Here are five tricks to do just that. 1. Consider your budget while choosing your destination. Any destination heavily impacted by tourists is going to be more expensive to visit. So, consider taking a tour through various French countryside towns instead of Paris! Not only could it be more culturally immersing, but it may even be more relaxing and less stressful than visiting a dense area. 2. Sign up for Scott’s Cheap Flights. One of the most important parts of booking an affordable vacation is booking it at the right time. Scott’s Cheap Flights will track all the cheapest flights at an airport of your choice — you’ll get over 50%–75% savings on highly rated airlines. This will get you stress-free travel for a much lower price! 3. Travel in a group. If you travel with friends, your expenses become a lot more manageable. Let’s say you and a partner travel with two other couples — renting a swanky cabin at $200 a night will only cost around $33 per person. Plus, you will create some amazing memories together!

4. Plan your meal budget ahead of time. Looking forward to eating certain dishes? Find local menus and prices to ensure you don’t spend more than you planned. If you want an authentic and homestyle culinary experience, consider signing up for a peer-to-peer dining experience through Traveling Spoon or Bon Appetour, which is tax-free as well! 5. Consider volunteering for vacation. Want to go on a self-discovery trip? Why not cut your expenses in half by volunteering? For example, Habitat for Humanity offers a nine-day Mexico trip for $1,200 with lodging, food, and activities included. You’ll get to build structures and create something permanent for the local community. Traveling on a dime is no sweat with the right tools. Best of luck, traveler!
