4 There’s a Daytime Activity for Everyone at MIYC! A q u a f i t a t M I Y C Aquafit classes take place at the MIMA pool at 10am on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Don't miss this opportunity to enjoy water aerobics - a low-impact activity that takes the pressure off your bones, joints and muscles. Water also offers natural resistance, which can help strengthen your muscles and you can add resistance devices to burn more calories! Exercising in the pool provides the toning and cardiovascular benefits of exercise on dry land with less strain and stress plus it allows for a greater range of motion helping with flexibility and balance. And most importantly, it is enjoyable fun! We are currently using social distancing and shields as necessary. As with any other exercise routine, just be certain you get medical clearance from your health care provider before taking the plunge. Call coordinator Peggy Frazier with questions ♥ 906 227 762 5

MIYC Book Club Thursday, April 29 th Noon Biography of John Adams Presented by Carol Comeaux

Book Club will meet next on Thursday, April 29 th . Please join us for a delicious book-themed luncheon, an informative presentation and lively discussion: 12:00 noon until 1:30pm. We have one wonderful selection for the remainder of our 2021 Season’s reading! Book Club date and choice is as follows: Date Book Presenter May 27 The Alice Network Deb deVries Reservations: 239-394-0199 MA Harlacker MIYC Book Club Chairperson [email protected] 239.821.7081 In this powerful, epic biography, David McCullough unfolds the adventurous life journey of John Adams, the brilliant, fercely independent, often irascible, always honest Yankee patriot who spared nothing in his zeal for the American Revolution; who rose to become the second president of the United States and saved the country from blundering into an unnecessary war; who was learned beyond all but a few and regarded by some as “out of his senses”; and whose marriage to the wise and valiant Abigail Adams is one of the moving love stories in American history. This is history on a grand scale – a book about politics and war and social issues, but also about human nature, love, religious faith, virtue, ambition, friendship, and betrayal, and the far-reaching consequences of noble ideas. Above all, John Adams is an enthralling, often surprising story of one of the most important and fascinating Americans who ever lived.

Getting to Know You – Our New General Manager Mark Felbinger – By M.A. Harlacker Mark was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado. His military family (including an older sister) eventually relocated to Chelmsford, Massachusetts, where his younger brother was born. They later moved to Harvard, MA, then to Medford, NJ, where he spent his Freshman and Sophomore HS years. Mark then enrolled at Valley Forge Military Academy in Valley Forge, PA, and graduated in 1983 as a Cadet Captain/ Company Commander with honors. He furthered his education at Atlantic Cape College of NJ. Mark has been married to his wife Jodi for 23 years, and they have two sons Mark (Markie), 24, and Joseph (Joey), 18. Mark is a graduate of FGCU and works at Quinn’s JW Marriott, and Joey has been accepted to Florida State University, with a full scholastic scholarship. “I am very proud of both of my children, especially excelling in a difficult environment today.“ Mark enjoys boating, fishing, shooting skeet, and is an avid snow skier, although he only gets to Colorado once a year. He and Jodi are both Philadelphia sports fans. They enjoy dining out at “hole in the wall” (non-chain) establishments, entertaining for friends, a tending to their 2 dogs (Moorkies) Bandit & Zoey, and a day at the beach. A dream vacation/location is a month in the Australian outback, and his bucket list includes “Catch & release a Tarpon, Play Augusta National, and Yellowstone National Park in a camper (that’s means a Fairfield INN by Marriott).” Mark enjoys 70’s/80’s classic rock, board games, and Beef Wellington with Bearnaise sauce and a coffee milkshake on the side. Mark has extensive experience in the Hospitality industry, beginning with Beverage Manager at Bally’s Hotel and Casino, Marriott Seaview CC outside of Atlantic City, opening a 300-room Marriott Hotel in Spartanburg, SC, Director of F&B at the Worthington (TX) Renaissance Hotel, and most recently, Director of Event Operations at the JW Marriott here on Marco Island. Mark’s causes include the Harry Chapin Food Bank, with which he has done a lot of work. He also knows his wine, and in the next year would like to earn a Wine Sommelier Level 1 designation. What is your personal motto? “If you take care of your associates (employees), they will in turn take care of our members.”

Whew! This past month has been a full one at the Club! Regular activities like the Fishing Club, Book Club, card groups, fine dining, and Twilight Golf have kept our members busy. We have also had two new staff members join the Club. And, a first in recent Club history, we had an event focused on raising money for the Mariners Fund. Our two new staff members are Mark Belfinger and Carrie Brooks. Mark joins us as General Manager after a long career with Marriott, with experience in Food & Beverage and Event Management. We have scheduled a number of 'Get to know Mark' sessions for members. If you have not already done so, I urge you to spend a little time with Mark. I think you will find his personality and background well suited to our Club. Carrie joins us after serving as the Food and Beverage manager at the Plantation Golf and Country Club in Fort Myers. She has also had an extensive career with Stock Development. Carrie is joining us as Project Manager for our conversion to the NorthStar system. She will be documenting our current processes, updating processes where required, helping transition >Page 1 Page 2 Page 3 Page 4 Page 5 Page 6 Page 7 Page 8 Page 9 Page 10 Page 11 Page 12 Page 13 Page 14 Page 15 Page 16 Page 17 Page 18 Page 19 Page 20 Page 21 Page 22 Page 23 Page 24 Page 25 Page 26 Page 27 Page 28 Page 29 Page 30 Page 31 Page 32 Page 33 Page 34 Page 35 Page 36 Page 37 Page 38 Page 39 Page 40
