BBI Services delivers exceptional Construction to Production masterclass

BBI Services gathered senior leaders from across the built environment to North Wales for its Construction to Production masterclass. Hosted in partnership with Toyota at their world-class Engine Plant in Deeside, this exclusive event was held in collaboration with the manufacturer’s renowned Lean Management Centre. The day was facilitated by BBI Services and is a practical hands-on experience and features specialist access to the Toyota factory, where delegates are shown first-hand how the manufacturing industry works day-to-day to deliver on time.

Andy Alder , Major Projects Vice President at Jacobs and Programme Director for Tideway: “Over many years, the construction industry has been urged to learn from the manufacturing industry. “This visit highlighted many important lessons that could easily be taken and applied to the construction sector, especially for linear projects or repetitive activities. “I believe civil engineers should consider this learning and think about how they can apply it to their work as it is an incredibly beneficial and insightful masterclass. “Ultimately, the more efficient we are, the better we’re able to deliver more of the infrastructure that society needs and learning from manufacturing can help us achieve this.”

Meet the Team Sammy King – Marketing Apprentice

Sammy has been with BBI for nearly a year and has been working hard in the background on our rebrand, new website, brochures, and campaigns.

What do you enjoy most about working with BBI Services? At BBI, I work with the whole team, from our CEO, to our consultants. This really benefits both my development and work. I learn a lot from talking to my colleagues, for example, picking up the language they use and then transferring this into my work What made you apply to be a Marketing Apprentice? Marketing was an option that really stood out to me. Understanding the different ways of engaging people and building brand awareness. What do you enjoy the most about marketing? It’s rewarding to see the impact it has, for example, when an email campaign results in several proposal opportunities for the company. I’ve recently started studying our Google Analytics. Looking into what pages are getting the most views, where the web traffic is coming from etc., and what we can do to drive more traffic to the website.

Do you think marketing is key for a company in Construction? As productivity levels in construction remain consistently below the UK average, I think it is very important that we aim to make more people in the industry aware of the services and guidance available. I can see BBI can help impact, project lead times, expenditure, wasted resources, and carbon footprint… and marketing is key to letting people know our capabilities.

Who is Sammy outside of work? I play netball 2/3 times a week, and love being part of the team. It’s very rewarding watching us grow together and become more confident when playing. I enjoy develop and pushing myself further each season. We are going on netball tour in May, and I can’t wait!

Materials matter – but on sustainability, processes matter too

Perfecting processes is a vital way construction organisations can cut their carbon footprints.

Globally, construction accounts for 36% of energy use, and 39% of overall carbon emissions. Which in turn, requires us to drastically reduce the amount of carbon we’re pumping into the atmosphere. As one of the most material- intensive industries on Earth, construction has a vital role to play in this process. A vast, staggeringly intricate global economy that was founded on the use of fossil fuels has to reach the stage where it can almost entirely do without them. To give us the best possible chance of avoiding spiraling climate change, we have to limit rising global temperatures to no more than 1.5 degrees Celsius.
