Arlington 9 April – ‘B’ Team Qualifier

Fairfax 2 April – Spring Kick-off Scramble 3 April – ‘B’ Team Qualifier 4-8 April – Golf Course Maintenance 24 April – Mixed Couples

11 April – Golf Outing 18 April – Golf Outing 25-29 April – Golf Course Maintenance

2 nd ANNUAL LADIES MEMBER - GUEST GOLF TOURNAMENT 28 & 29 June 2022

As record levels of play continue at our two courses, here are 10 things to take into account to improve the golf experience for you and your fellow members: 1. The Fairfax course will be back to a full 27 holes in mid-April with the completion of the fairway conversion to bentgrass. It is imperative that we all diligently replace our divots and use sand to even out the area. The bentgrass divot will re-root itself within a day or so. 2. At Arlington, DO NOT replace the Bermuda fairway divots, use sand to fill the divot. The Bermuda grass grows laterally and will quickly repair its own divot. 3. When preparing to play from a bunker, always enter it from the low side. How you rake the bunker depends on which course you’re playing: - At Arlington, rake and then smooth out the surface with the rounded side of the rake. - At Fairfax, rake with the tine side down as you normally would. At both courses, leave rakes outside the bunker. 4. All golfers MUST check in with the pro shop before play. This includes ALL dew sweepers. Please keep your current ANCC bag tag visible when on the course and the range. 5. Be mindful that every Monday, one of the nine-hole courses at each campus is closed for maintenance. Play is prohibited on that nine during that time. In addition, the practice facilities at both Arlington and Fairfax open no later than noon on Mondays, and 8:00 AM on Thursdays at Arlington. Practice facilities close at dusk; however, the Arlington practice facility closes two hours before dusk on Sundays and Wednesdays. 6. If you cannot make your tee time, please cancel at least one day in advance when possible. If you cancel on your scheduled day of play, call the pro shop as soon as you can. 7. Proper golf attire is required on the course and on the range. For gentlemen, collared shirts will be tucked into shorts or trousers and caps must be worn with bills face-forward. For ladies, there is no requirement for blouses to be tucked, but bare midriffs should not be visible before, during or after a swing. 8. Golf caps and visors are not allowed for men or women in either clubhouse except when ordering in Stars & Stripes. At Arlington, golf shoes are not allowed on the second and third floors of the clubhouse. 9. Please remain vigilant regarding pace of play by keeping up with the group in front of you. The goal is to complete 18 holes in 4 hours. Save time at the turn by calling ahead to order from Stars & Stripes (571-482-5983) when you’re making the turn. 10. Sand, Sand, Sand! Our fairways LOVE sand, so please be diligent about filling divots whenever possible. The Club has bought some smaller sand bottles for walkers that can be refilled on the course. Ask for one when you check in. Those in carts should consider taking 3 or 4 full-sized sand bottles with them to use and refill at the sand refilling stations located throughout the courses. 10 Things To Know as the Golf Season Gets Underway

This Tournament is scheduled for Tuesday & Wednesday, 28 & 29 June at ARL. It will be a 2 day event which will include a nine-hole Fun Par-3 Challenge Tournament in the evening on 28 June, and 18-hole tournament on 29 June. Tournament entries open on 1 May. For more information and to enter, please click here.

Did you know you can receive golf updates directly to your personal email account? All you need to do is log onto the ANCC Website, click ‘My Profile’, click ‘Edit My Info’, then ‘Advanced’, scroll down to the Golf Section and click any of the activities you are interested in which range from ‘Golf Instruction’ to ‘Golf Organizations’ to ‘Golf Updates.’We want you to be informed on all things golf so please log-in and sign-up for these updates. Its super easy and only takes a couple of minutes! Not Receiving Golf Updates? Are Your Clubs Ready for the Golf Season? When was the last time you had your clubs re-gripped? Eighteen months is the absolute maximum you should wait to change your grips because slick or worn grips can have a negative impact on your game, like driving on worn tires. Maintaining proper grip pressure is essential in making a smooth swing, but worn grips require tighter grip pressure which inhibits the swing. Worn grips are especially slippery in wet conditions. Degradation is gradual, so you may not even realize how worn they have gotten. Stop by either Golf Shop for more information or to have one of the Golf Professionals take look at your grips. If you have NOT been receiving e-mails regarding ANCC Junior Golf, please forward your e-mail address to Jimmy Kowalski, PGA to be sure to receive junior golf information throughout the year. Jimmy’s e-mail address is [email protected]. Attention Junior Golfers

Division winners will proceed on to play single elimination quarter, semi-final, and final matches. We need the best senior golfers, age 55 and over, to represent Army Navy Country Club. Selection criteria for the team matches will be based on the 1 April 2022 handicaps (which are expected to be current and accurate). All matches are played at scratch. If you have a handicap index of 6.0 or below and are interested in being considered for the team, please contact the 2022 ANCC Men’s “B” Team and Qualifying The ANCC Men’s “B” Team competition begins late April and is a great way to meet other ANCC members and play competitive golf against other clubs in the area. The ‘B’ Team is open to all men with course handicaps ranging from 5 to 16. Matches are held on Saturdays and/or Sundays from late April thru July with playoffs going fromAugust thru October. When you register your handicap with ANCC there are many Virginia State Golf Association benefits you receive for your annual fee. Two major VSGA benefits of membership are subscriptions to Virginia Golfer and Golf Digest magazines, and the VSGA would love for you to receive these two benefits. However, in order to receive the two magazines you need to provide the VSGA with your mailing address. To be sure your information is current, please click the link here and follow the instructions.
