HERE’S WHAT I LEARNED I RECORDED A VIDEO OF MYSELF EVERY DAY FOR 366 DAYS

2020 OCTOBER

As you probably guessed from the title of this

Now, here’s what is maybe the craziest part about this project. After dragging my feet through 12 months, I decided to make one more video. No one was more surprised than me that I’d consider putting out a 366th video, but I felt it was only right to end my log with a celebration of someone who has always inspired me: Little Bobby. You might remember Little Bobby’s story from my newsletter last December. In that edition, I wrote about the passing of his father, Bobby Hodge. If you missed that article, here’s what you should know about my friend Little Bobby. He was born with cerebral palsy, and the doctors told his mother that he probably wouldn’t live past 3 or 4 months old. When he survived, they advised sending him to a care home, but his family refused. Instead, they raised him to become the amazing guy he is today. Now, Little Bobby dedicates an incredible amount of time to helping others. He volunteers for the CROP Hunger Walk, an initiative to end food insecurity around the country, and truly radiates positivity. It’s been a gift to get to know him over the last few years, and when I realized that his birthday was the day after my video project ended, I knew I wanted to dedicate a special 366th video to his story. On July 15, Little Bobby turned 53, and the whole town of Farmville threw a drive-by birthday parade for him. Friends drove by to shout happy birthday, cupcakes were passed around, and the local fire trucks even made an appearance. He had a blast, and the whole experience really touched me. In my video, I explained that I think Bobby is one of those human beings we should all aspire to be like — a truly good person who sees the best in the rest of the world. By then, my goals for my video project had changed. Instead of just trying to find my voice, I ended up hoping that by watching my videos, my friends and family would realize that even though life isn’t all sunshine and rainbows, there is a lot of hope out there. This project taught me that when you make a conscious effort to find something positive in life, it becomes much more beautiful. I hope that whatever life looks like for you these days, you make time to look for

when I found out Marah and I were having a little boy. It was a pretty epic undertaking, but as tough as it was at times, I’m glad I stuck it out.

The whole thing started when I enrolled in a marketing program. One of the things it suggested was putting out some kind of content every day, like a podcast, blog post, or video. The experts said it would help me find my voice and improve my communication skills. That sounded good to me so I thought, “Why not try it out?” When I started off I was really motivated — I couldn’t wait to film every day, and I had a bunch of things in mind to talk about. But on day 30, I woke up thinking, “Why did I have to say I’d do this for a whole year? Why wasn’t a month enough?” Still, I slogged through. Some days, I knew exactly what I wanted to talk about, and others, I lay in bed mumbling under my breath trying to think of a decent topic. Looking back over the collection of videos, I think the result is pretty cool, and I hope I share the best ones with my son one day.

THE BEST FALL SPICES TO BOOST YOUR FAMILY’S HEALTH It’s the season of fall spices. Pumpkin spice — which is actually a mix of many different seasonal spices — is a favorite, but it’s not the only one we should try this year. Seasonal spices are a fun way to literally spice up your meals, and many of them also have surprising health benefits! SOMETHING FOR YOUR HEART: CINNAMON Cinnamon can actually help lower your blood sugar levels, which is especially beneficial for folks with Type 2 diabetes. The Johns Hopkins Medicine website also reports that cinnamon has heart-healthy benefits. For example, studies show that cinnamon can reduce high blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels, thus decreasing the risk of developing heart disease. How to add more cinnamon to your diet: Sprinkle cinnamon on oatmeal or plain yogurt for a warming boost of flavor. You’ll also find cinnamon in pumpkin spice, a seasonal favorite.

When your patients need pain relief between visits, topical creams are a go-to option you can offer them. However, they’re not the only game in town. Here at Chiro1Source, we also sell an alternative solution called the Pure White Essential Oil Comfort Patch.

These patches have a few unique benefits — they’re all natural and customizable, and they smell amazing! That last perk is a big one. What do you think is the hardest selling point for topicals? A lot of our clients have told us that the main

SOMETHING FOR YOUR BRAIN: TURMERIC Recent research has found that turmeric can reduce inflammation. A compound in turmeric called curcumin has been shown to help reduce the pain and swelling associated with arthritis. The anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric may also help reduce inflammation in the brain, which has been linked to depression and Alzheimer’s. How to add more turmeric to your diet: Homemade curries are a great way to get a good dose of turmeric. You can also add turmeric to roasted vegetables or taco seasoning. SOMETHING FOR YOUR STOMACH: GINGER If you’ve ever drunk ginger ale on a plane to calm your upset stomach, then you’ve already experienced the healing properties of ginger. Ginger can be used to treat nausea, including nausea due to motion sickness and pregnancy. Studies show that ginger can also offer relief to cancer patients suffering from nausea caused by chemotherapy. How to add more ginger to your diet: There are many baked goods that call for ginger. Your morning coffee or tea could also benefit from a hint of ginger.

complaint they hear is that topical creams don’t smell great. Of course, some people can get past a funny smell with ease, but for those who can’t, our Pure White Essential Oil Comfort Patch can solve the problem. The patches are loaded with a powerful blend of herbal extracts and certified organic essential oils. The ingredients include peppermint, eucalyptus, orange, lavender, and wintergreen, which create a relaxing perfume. They’re great to use during the day or

DOES YOUR CLINIC PUT YOUR PATIENTS AT EASE? 3 TIPS FOR CREATING A POSITIVE OFFICE ENVIRONMENT

YOUR PATIENTS UP N-THE-GO COMFORT TE ESSENTIAL OIL COMFORT PATCH AIN RELIEVER!

Halloween is coming, and with it a spooktacular array of ghosts, goblins, and vampires. Of course, these aren’t real monsters, but a lot of people still jump at bumps in the night this time of year. Perhaps surprisingly, we see a lot of parallels between these Halloween fears and patient worries about a visit to the chiropractor. For new patients, visiting a clinic for the first time can be scary because it has an element of the unknown, just like a sound in the darkness. However, there are steps you can take to put your patients at ease and help them overcome their fears. Here are just a few easy ways to create a positive environment in your office that will melt patients’ worries away this fall.

before bedtime for a better night’s sleep.

The patches are also a great option for people who are worried about toxins. They’re all natural, without artificial colors, preservatives, or chemical adhesives. Each 4x6-inch patch can even be trimmed into a different shape or cut into multiple smaller patches. This option lets patients customize the patches for anywhere on their bodies and makes every pack of 10 patches last longer.

1. SHOW YOUR PATIENTS THAT THEIR SAFETY COMES FIRST. Right now in the era of COVID-19, cleanliness and safety are probably your patients’ main concerns. You can put them at ease by prominently posting the steps you’re taking to prevent the spread of coronavirus and offering easy access to products like hand sanitizer and face masks (both of which you can find on our website, Chiro1Source.com). 2. USE MUSIC TO SET THE MOOD. Music can have a big impact on the listener’s mental state. According to neuroscientists, the right tracks can actually reduce anxiety. One study, for example, found that listening to “Weightless” by Marconi Union reduced listener stress by a whopping 65%. The Family Center for Recovery reports that most people turn to rock, classical, and easy listening music to reduce anxiety, so aim to play one of those options in your waiting room.

Like other topicals, the patches are easy to take on the go. Patients can keep a pack in their car or toss it in their gym bag to have the option of relief whenever they need it. Best of all, they get all of these benefits without worrying about the sticky fingers or smell that could come with topical creams. If you want to learn more about the Pure White Essential Oil Comfort Patch or place an order, visit Chiro1Source.com today.

3. GET CREATIVE WITH SCENT. Like sound, scent can work wonders to change a person’s mood. According to the Huffington Post, smells like lavender,

pine, jasmine, and vanilla can reduce stress, promote relaxation, and ward off depression. To make your office more welcoming, try adding an essential oil diffuser to spread one of these aromas. To learn more about the power of scent in chiropractics, check out Pg. 2.

These strategies, along with patient education and a good tableside manner, will make your clinic a comforting, positive place to be.

YOU’RE NOT ALONE LEARN AND GROW WITH A PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATION

EDUCATION AND RESOURCES Google is great for a quick answer, but when you need to learn something more nuanced, a simple internet search won’t cut it. Professional associations offer tailored, more in-depth help and resources like industry-specific training and webinars, how-to guides, and coaching. From peer advice and education to scholarly studies and reviews, associations act as a library of information for your industry. NETWORKING AND MENTORSHIP Why reinvent the wheel when you can adapt it with a mentor? Associations connect you to leaders who have stood where you are standing and succeeded. You can learn a lot from their failures, wisdom, and guidance. You can also connect with peers in your position and bounce ideas off of them. You won’t have to worry about competitors “stealing” your processes, and

Business is competitive by nature. If competitors didn’t push our favorite brands to be better, they may not even exist. Our technology options would be limited without Apple’s ingenuity. Shipping options would be limited without UPS or FedEx. And access to our favorite athletic gear would be more limited if no one was pushing the top brands like Nike to innovate. Competition fuels our greatest inventions, but behind every great leader or business is a core network of like-minded people and innovators supporting them. Professional associations connect business leaders to fellow innovators in their industry without competition from local rivals. These organizations offer many benefits and little risk to business leaders looking to grow. If you haven’t yet joined a professional association, these three benefits just might get you to change your mind.

you have an honest, go-to support team to help you refine them before presenting them to your team. PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT AND GROWTH A business is only as good as the leader managing it, and all business leaders have room for improvement. An association can give you the tools to get there. And as you continue to learn, you’ll discover personal and professional areas that can be further refined. This personal development only makes you and your business stronger. Are you still not convinced you should join an association? Think of it this way: Your competitors could be growing through their involvement in an association while you remain stagnant. Push forward and connect with your peers today.
