THE GROSV ENOR S TORY

The Grosvenor family history stretches back almost 1,000 years, to the time of William the Conqueror. Over the past three centuries, Grosvenor has developed and managed over 300 acres of real estate in London’s Belgravia and Mayfair districts, two of the world’s most desirable neighbourhoods. Our future success is tied to sustainable growth of the cities in which we have a presence. The Company has a vested interest in the shape of the urban landscape and aims to create and manage places in cities in which people want to live, work, learn and relax. Our approach to a special development like Grosvenor Ambleside is to assemble a team of trusted local partners who are sensitive to the community and the people who reside there. In partnership with these local stakeholders, Grosvenor aims to make long-term contributions to places like West Vancouver by using creative design and high quality building methods in all our projects. This is what makes our developments so enduring. Grosvenor’s interest and experience in Vancouver is well established, beginning over 60 years ago when the City was selected to expand our property investment and development to North America. Over the past four decades, we have been active in creating exceptional residential mixed-use properties in the North Shore’s most desirible and vibrant areas. At Grosvenor, decisions are made locally, based on respect for the uniqueness of place, the people who live there and the detailed knowledge of our specialists. It’s a legacy that Grosvenor Ambleside exemplifies.

A L EGACY OF C I TY BU I L D I NG

The Grosvenor origins are tied to the evolution of a particular city—London—but, over the last 60 years, we have also developed, owned or managed assets in many other dynamic cities around the globe. The Family and the Land—1677 London lands came into the Grosvenor family in 1677 with the marriage of Mary Davies and Sir Thomas Grosvenor, including 500 acres of swamp, pasture and orchards to the west of the City, of which 300 acres remain with the family today forming Grosvenor’s London estate. Mayfair, London—1720s ‘Mayfair’ took its name from the fair held on the land in May until well into the 19th century. In 1720 the family began developing the property into a fashionable residential area, with Grosvenor Square at the centre. International Expansion—1950s During the second half of the 20th century, Grosvenor began to apply its estate management skills of investment, development and asset management elsewhere in the UK, into the Americas, Asia Pacific and continental Europe. Living cities—2000s In April 2000, Grosvenor became a Group of regional businesses. In 2005 our international fund management business was formalized as a discrete entity. In 2012, we brought all our indirect investments in property together, creating the present tripartite structure of direct proprietary activities, indirect proprietary activities, and fund management. Grosvenor remains privately owned.
