SALINE COUNTY LIBRARY EXPERIENCES NOVEMBER 2021

Meet our October Employees of the Month: Denman & Becca! Food for Fines is making its return! See a list of all accepted items.

Check out our staff’s favorite things about fall!

Full list of virtual and in-person events and the calendar for November!

M-Th 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM, F-Sa 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Bob Herzfeld Memorial Library 1800 Smithers Drive Benton, AR 72015 501-778-4766

Mabel Boswell Memorial Library 201 Prickett Road Bryant, AR 72022 501-847-2166

Our long, dry, hot summer is finally over. We’re hoping there is a little fall transition weather for us to continue doing programs outside, but this is Arkansas so I’m not holding my breath. The experts really aren’t sure what Covid is going to do this Fall/Winter or even what flu season is going to be like. Trying to plan programs is pretty much a shot in the dark. Please bear with us while we plan, scrap plans, re-purpose plans, and cancel plans. We are giving it our best. We want everyone to have fun and be safe, and sometimes those two things are hard to reconcile. New Hours You may have noticed that we added some hours in the evening. We’re trying to accommodate those who work outside of Benton and Bryant, and need a little extra time getting here after work. Both branches are open:

9:00 – 7:00 Monday – Thursday 9:00 – 4:00 Friday and Saturday

Sincerely, Patty Hector

Employees of the Month

Becca: Bryant Becca always has a happy disposition. She is uplifting to staff and patrons no matter the situation. She not only does her job but helps at circulation when needed. She is knowledgeable in her area and makes it flow with ease.

Denman: Benton He is such a good team player! He does his work and is very helpful to his coworkers going above and beyond what is asked to help us out. He will get here early and take on the tasks of opening so that it lessens the burden on the openers. He is kind and funny and always has a good attitude. He is the greatest shelver these eyes have ever seen. October is Denman’s last month at the Saline County Library and what better way to send him off?!

Come check out these November displays in Benton!

FALL FAVORITES by SCL Staff

“Fall gives us glimpses of beauty, morning colors, and long shadows that no other season provides -- and it’s not too hot or too cold to enjoy them.” - Alan, Community Librarian

“My favorite thing about fall is the promise of a new beginning. I love watching the leaves change colors, from the browns, oranges, and yellows to the greens once trees generate new growth.” - Yajaira, Library Assistant

“I love the smell of fall. I don’t know how to describe it, but I know it when I smell it.” - Patty, Library Director

“My favorite thing about fall is that since the weather is cooler, it means it’s perfectly acceptable to wear warm, cozy pajamas and lounge around the house in spare time. This year, we even got matching pj’s for the dogs!” - Kari, Community Engagement Manager

“My favorite things about fall are the chilly air and pumpkins! There’s something so wonderfully “fall” about a big orange pumpkin.” - Jenn, Youth Services Librarian: Teens

“Fall is my absolute favorite season ever. Cooking chili, opening the windows to let the cool breeze in, and watching the Hogs play is so nostalgic to me. Fall also has the best clothes! Did I mention HALLOWEEN!!!” - Heather, HR Manager

“Maybe it’s a redhead thing, but like Anne Shirley, “I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers” -- nothing beats cozy sweaters in the crisp fall air, my momma’s apple cider, snuggly book weather, and all the gorgeous colors.” - Ashlyn, Youth Services Assistant: Makerspace

“I love Halloween! It’s my favorite holiday!” - Dana, Youth Services Assistant

“Fall comes quietly, Easing into the chill days. Hope lingers, leaves fall.” - Rob, Building Operations Manager

“Cool, crisp nights and warm, cozy bonfires with family and friends.” - Elizabeth, Branch Library Assistant

“The crisp autumn air, leaves, and bonfires. Mostly, I love the way the air changes; it brings a certain kind of peace.” - Rachel, Assistant Branch Manager

“My favorite thing about fall is kicking through fallen leaves on the sidewalk.” - Amanda, Public Services Manager

“My favorite thing about fall is hiking in the cool weather! You can enjoy the day so much easier and look at the beautiful foliage.” - Matthew, Branch Youth Services Librarian

“I love the smell of woodsmoke in the air, along with the brilliant colors the trees turn. When the temperature falls, I love to make hearty soups, too. My Hobbit stew is the bomb!” - Susie, Library Assistant

“I love fall because it’s pumpkin spice season! Give me all the food, drinks, and items that contain pumpkin spice!” - Heather, Library Assistant: ILL

“Cooler temperatures that make you want to go out and do things!” - Belinda, Library Assistant
