Keep the right perspective

Extremely curved frames put special challenges when calculating and designing lenses. Lenses fit differently, having different angles than conventional corrective glasses. Lens planes for goggles are strongly tilted and differently to each other. Angles vary between 15° – 25°.

High frame angles (wrap) cause optical aberrations

Astigmatic aberrations Astigmatic side effects occur while looking straight ahead (main viewing distance) due to light being deflected passing through the lens.

Twisting of cylinder axis Projection of cyl axis for strongly tilted lenses in the plane must be viewed perpendicular to the main viewing plane. This projection leads to a different axis direction for oblique corrections. If the cyl axis are exactly in the 0° or 90° direction no axis twist occurs.

Prismatic side effect An additional prismatic effect happens when looking straight on to the distance because the main ray does not correspond with the optical axis of the lens.

Decentration Decentration is alloos affected by the tilt. The vertex of the backside of the lens moves to the nasal side while the reference point on the fronside of the lens moves to the temporal side.

Partial grinding for extremely large delivery range

Edge thickness is often not sufficient for lenses with high minus powers to realize the required power over the whole production diameter (crib). The RX area on the backside f a l l s out of the range for some radii vectors between 0° and 360° for cribbing. Th is leads to an optically usable and edge area - carrier base. Production using partial grinding and utilizing a carrier base allows for a much-extended delivery range for minus lenses. The size and position of the partial cut depends on the power, customers individual parameters and blank parameters. Ask our service department if partial cut is possible and if yes, the position either only for the cribbing diameter or additionally for the edged shape. Use our Flash coatings for an esthetical, fashionable option.
