Our True 4-Leaf Clovers

visit and weren’t familiar with San Diego County. They suggested some cities close to where they’d be working, but they really didn’t know what the area was like. This time, our San Diego specialist, Cristina, went above and beyond to find them their dream home. When they flew in, she didn’t just show them houses: She spent an entire afternoon familiarizing them with the various neighborhoods of San Diego. After picking the couple up from the airport, Cristina drove them all around, showing them North San Diego and taking them to two communities she thought would fit their lifestyle. The tour was more than about viewing houses. She drove them by schools, showed them hiking trails, and viewed the beautiful beaches with them. Cristina knew the primary purpose of the afternoon was to find a community that would match their lifestyle. Thanks to our agent who went the extra mile, the couple found a community they are excited to call home, and our team has another set of new friends. We are so blessed. Folks like these are the reason we love what we do.We’re so grateful for you and the faith you’ve put in us to connect you with your dream house. As you settle in and enjoy your new home, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’d love to hear from you.

Did you know the odds of finding a four-leaf clover are 1 in 10,000? It’s pretty rare. But we’re certain those statistics must be wrong, because we’ve found an entire field of four-leaf clovers — our clients. People like you.We often can’t believe how lucky we are to know people who are more to us than clients. They’re friends. Recently, we had the pleasure of meeting a couple moving from Northern California to San Diego County for a job transfer. They had visited San Diego only once before and had just one day to view as many houses as possible and potentially place an offer to buy one. They flew in at 6 a.m. and only had until 3 p.m. to see properties. What’s an agent to do in this situation?Well, we got to work. Before meeting with the couple, we called all the agents who had properties listed in their desired area. There happened to be a house in coastal San Diego that fit all their criteria for a dream house. From the listing online, it looked like it could be the one. But there was a catch. The listing agent specifically stated on the MLS,“NO SHOWINGS UNTIL …” Sadly, the date was listed for two days after our clients’ visit. Despite the barrier, I had a feeling the home was a perfect match for them, so I called the agent. I got through to her assistant and pleaded my case. It paid off. The agent called her clients and asked if we could show their house early. They said yes! Suddenly, all the details from our hard work fell into place. We showed our clients the home just before they flew out.We were the first ones to see it, and within an hour, we all knew it was most likely the one. The couple bought it, and they’re now our new friends. We feel so fortunate.

Happy spring!

Another couple we met this year were also from out of town and moving here for work, but they hadn’t had the opportunity to

Liberate Their Imagination by Depersonalizing the House Pack up those personal photographs and family heirlooms. You want buyers to imagine their own photos on the walls, and they can’t do that if yours are already there! Negotiate With Curb Appeal Is the paint fading or chipping? Is the color outdated or too personal? If the house needs painting, choose a neutral color. If you need ideas for paint combinations, look at three or four model home communities that cost $20,000 to $50,000 more than your neighborhood and copy one of them. Welcome the New Home Owner — Make It Sparkle If you don’t have the time or inclination, hire someone to thoroughly clean the house.Your kitchen, bathrooms, and windows should pass a white-glove inspection. Deciding What to Do First Most importantly, fix what you can see! Cosmetic changes, regardless of the cost, will make a world of difference when it comes time to sell. And remember, your home should also smell good.

move out of your home and begin calling it a house . Say to yourself,“This is not my home; it is a house — a product that, once sold, will allow me to have what is truly important.” Eliminate Clutter and Tidy Closets and Cabinets It’s important to make the house inviting and pleasant. Yours is not the only property the prospective buyer will see.You are competing with homes that may have been professionally staged and homes that have no children, no pets, and Mr. and Mrs. Perfection for owners. Strategy No. 2 You want to create the perception of roominess. Rent a storage unit if necessary. Optimize With Minor Repairs Replace cracked tiles. Patch holes in walls. Fix leaky faucets. Repair doors that don’t close properly and kitchen drawers that jam. Replace burned-out lightbulbs. If you’ve considered replacing a worn bedspread, do so now! Strategy No. 3

Millennial Talk With Danielle DiMarco, College Student and ‘2 Cents’ Columnist

Millennials have taken over the internet, giving rise to a whole new language. Here’s a quick guide to help you figure out what the heck they’re talking about.

Example:“The news today had me shook!”

Lit: A broad term meaning exciting, interesting, or fun. While it’s typically used to describe events like parties, it can be used to describe anything great.

BAE: An acronym for “before anyone else.” This is an affectionate nickname for one’s significant other, often used in place of “babe” or “baby.”

Trying to decipher another generation’s slang can be awkward at best and tedious at worst. This guide should help you figure out more of what millennials are talking about. If you still have trouble, I’m sure they’d be more than happy to spill the tea.

Example:“You should come tonight, it’s going to be lit!”

Example:“Have you met my new bae?”

FOMO: An acronym for “fear of missing out.”Millennials in particular find this feeling hard to escape due to the stream of social media posts. It’s hard to relax at home with constant pictures and videos of your friends out having a great time!

Tea: Juicy gossip or information. When shared, it’s referred to as “spilling the tea.” The more exciting the gossip, the hotter the tea.

Stay tuned for next month. It’ll be lit.

Example:“Girl, listen up. I’ve got the tea.”

Example:“I had serious FOMO when I was home alone last night.”

Shook: Shaken up! It can be used positively or negatively. Being “shook” can mean you’re confused, surprised, or agitated.

The Japanese Friendship Garden is having its 13th annual Cherry Blossom Festival March 9–11. Kick off spring by enjoying the sight of beautiful cherry blossoms in bloom. When the Japanese Friendship Garden first opened in 1991, its purpose was to build and strengthen a friendship between San Diego andYokohama, Japan. Although the two cities are across the sea from one another, they connect on a single line. The garden’s design is heavily influenced by ancient Japanese traditions and styles that have been adjusted to suit San Diego’s setting. In addition to hosting festivals such as the Cherry Blossom Festival, the garden has several educational programs, exhibits, and even accredited horticulture classes.

Amelia Earhart’s Legacy

narrative, Earhart and Noonan survived an emergency landing in the Japanese- occupied islands, only to languish as prisoners of war. Cold water was poured on this theory shortly after. A copy of the same photograph was found in the Japanese National Archives with the date 1935, which was two years too early for the photo’s subjects to be Earhart and Noonan. People’s enthusiasm to solve the mystery of Earhart’s disappearance will persist for years to come. But this month, as we celebrate the accomplishments of women throughout history, it’s important that we set aside the mystique of Earhart’s death to honor her vibrant life. She blazed a trail for women in science, aviation, and beyond, leaving a legacy as boundless as the sky.

avid feminist in the post-suffrage era. On top of these accomplishments, Earhart became the famous aviator we remember today. After her twin-engine Lockheed Electra disappeared over the Pacific Ocean during the last leg of her historic 1937 flight around the world, the Earhart legacy has been defined by mystery. For decades, historians and enthusiasts have batted around theories about the fate of the intrepid pilot. Just last summer, on the 80th anniversary of her disappearance, a History Channel documentary claimed to have found the truth. The TV documentary “Amelia Earhart: The Lost Evidence”made a media splash when investigators claimed to have uncovered a photograph of Earhart and her navigator, Fred Noonan, alive in the Marshall Islands. There are plenty of figures worthy of remembrance during Women’s History Month. From literary pioneers like Mary Shelley and

Emily Dickinson to civil rights heroes like Rosa Parks and Daisy Bates, inspiring legacies abound. But few of those women’s stories end with a question mark. To this day, the story of famed pilot and women’s rights advocate Amelia Earhart remains shrouded in the clouds. Her life was defined by a rare combination of curiosity, conviction, and courage. Earhart became a nurse during the Great War, taught aeronautical engineering at Purdue, and was an
