MEET TWO OF OUR FULLY CREDENTIALED CAREGIVERS!

STAFF SPOTLIGHT: ROGER HOWARD AND SARA REMLEY At Howard Orthotics and Prosthetics, we are dedicated to providing youwith the highest quality care. Whilemost orthotics and prosthetics providers only have a single credentialed caregiver on staff, we are happy to say that Howard Orthotics and Prosthetics has two!

Roger Howard, CPO, Director

The American Board For Certification is the accrediting body for our individual provider certifications and our facility accreditation of both Watertown and Canton offices. Having two credentialed team members allows us to offer orthotics and prosthetics care five days a week at our Watertown location, and to also see our patients at our satellite office. That being said, we would like to introduce you to our two fully credentialed caregivers: Roger Howard and Sara Remley! Roger Howard has been in the Orthotics and Prosthetics field since 1990, and Sara Remley has been in the Orthotics and Prosthetics field since 2010. She also just celebrated her seventh year as part of the Howard Orthotics and Prosthetics family! Roger and Sara first met when Sara’s grandfather needed a prosthesis. He came into our clinic, where he was taken care of by Roger. Roger took the time to show Sara around the office and what the field of orthotics and prosthetics was all about. This, in turn, inspired Sara to pursue a career in theworld of orthotics and prosthetics. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, and then went on to Northwestern University for Orthotics and University of Hartford for Prosthetics. (continued inside)

(continued from outside) Eventually, Roger and the rest of our team at Howard Orthotics and Prosthetics were looking to grow and take on another caregiver. Sara was a Certified Orthotist at the time and was looking to move back to the Watertown area. Roger and Sara’s story came full circle when Sara joined the Howard Orthotics and Prosthetics team seven years ago. At our clinic, we love seeing stories such as this one where paths cross and people are introduced to the many benefits of the orthotics and prosthetics world. As our patients may or may not know, the mission of Howard Orthotics and Prosthetics is three-fold: 1. To help patients enhance their abilities and reach their optimum physical potential. 2. To help patients find pain relief so they can live a higher quality of life. 3. To be known as a reliable, results-based orthotic and prosthetic practice within our community. With compassionate, caring people like Roger and Sara on our team, we are able to continually succeed in our mission. If you’re in need of orthotic or prosthetic care, contact us today to get started with one of our dedicated team members! THE STORY OF A GROWING TEAM

LIVING WITH LIMB LOSS 8 TIPS FOR THRIVING AFTER AMPUTATION

1 Believe strongly in your continued potential after amputation. Thousands of amputees have proven that limb loss does not have to prevent you from going to school, having a job, marrying, having children, participating in sports, and enjoying a full life. 2 Set a goal, and work toward it. Focus intensely on your goal andmove toward it step by step. Break down your large, overwhelming tasks into smaller, moremanageable ones and take them on one at a time. 3 Set another goal, and another one, and another one. Once you’ve achieved your first goal, set another one. That way, you’ll always have something new to achieve. 4 Accept the support of family, friends, and other amputees. 5 Keep trying. Don’t give up or take no for an answer. 6 Don’t let other people’s opinions dictate your destiny.

7 Research living with limb loss, learn from others, and be willing to consider their advice. 8 If you fall or get knocked down, dust yourself off, and look for alternate ways to accomplish your goals. “Fall seven times, stand up eight,” advises a Japanese proverb. Even if you fall over and over, if you stand up the last time, you will ultimately succeed.
