About the Directorate of Estates & Facilities

King’s Directorate of Estates & Facilities is a key enabler of the university’s Strategic Vision 2029 and we have created a strategy which demonstrates our intent and sets out how the Estates & Facilities team will support the ambition of the university’s strategic vision. Our philosophy has been developed using the Guiding Principles outlined in Vision 2029; we have worked with the teams across the other support

functions, with our academic and research colleagues and our students so that we can ensure that the communities we serve are at the very heart of the directorate’s work. We know that everyone in King’s interacts with our physical assets and relies upon our service delivery therefore they need to: • be seamless • to work • be sustainable and safe • be enabling • support work and learning and; • enable growth As King’s continues to mature and grow the task of developing, maintaining, managing and driving value from our physical infrastructure will become more complex. Role purpose The effective management of Operational, Statutory, Mandatory and maintenance delivery across all buildings located within the College’s Arts and Sciences estate and to encompass the following:- • Setting Individual Managers’ output requirements. • Developing, maintaining and managing the maintenance strategy. • Identification and implementation of operational best practice. • Management of the delivery of energy management projects and PPM Tasks. • Developing maintaining and management of all contractors and Term service contracts across the Estate. • Maximising internal capability to reduce 3rd party reliance. • Minimise business operational risk. • Liaison with Asset Improvement team to develop best Life Cycle cost and use profiles for all assets. • Responsible for all Arts and Sciences Critical areas and HVAC Plant. • Proven leadership in order to drive a demanding and challenging function to deliver results and continuous improvement. The role will deliver enhanced levels of infrastructure maintenance within the existing framework and will facilitate a continuous improvement cycle to be established and implemented. Role profile Technical Management • Responsibility for the effective management support of the engineering Maintenance team. • The development and growth of the staff under direct control. • Develop relationships with all parts of the College’s estates department to enhance operational delivery. • Responsible for the preparation of monthly performance reports. • Attendance at various meetings as required. • Contribute to the overall management of business and commercial risk. • Recommend improved ways of working to achieve continuous improvement. • Responsible for the setting of maintenance standards. • Delivery of contract SLA’s, KPI’s and KSF’s. • Deliver an integrated planned forward maintenance register inc 3rd party vendors.

• Develop operational “Normal and Emergency” operating plans for use on site. • Responsibility for the delivery of Operational Service excellence. • Accountable for accurate measurement and auditing of operational services. • Development and implementation of a Business Continuity and Risk Mitigation plan. • Create specialist 3rd party supply chain business focussed delivery in liaison with the Maintenance Manager – Contracted Services. • Responsible for the development of PPM delivery from SFG20 to include specific Manufacturer guidance and Life Cycle enhancement. • Maintain a monthly operational risk register across the portfolio. • Review Life Cycle Asset Assessments annually with Asset Improvement team. • Ensure Asset Condition surveys maintained in accordance HEFCE guidelines. The Head of Engineering will develop a delivery structure which is robust and contains all the required skills and competencies. Health & Safety • Contribute to the development and implementation of all management systems. • Ensure that all staff are suitably trained and aware of relevant H & S systems. • Ensure that all aspect of the service are delivered in a safe and controlled manner. • Ensure full compliance with all relevant H&S legislation and documents. • Maintain an operational H & S plan relevant to all engineering systems. • Operate a “Safe Systems of Work” system at all times. • Integrate maintenance with the College’s H & S policy. • Responsible for the Training and Auditing of AP’s and CP’s.
