General Manager’s Message Hakan Ozel

My Dear Colleagues,

As 2021 draws to a close, I want to offer my very sincere thanks and best wishes to you and your loved ones with my reflections on what we have achieved together over this last year. We entered 2021 reeling from the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic and we are still in that period of slight uncertainty with recent happenings. We are humbled and should be deeply proud about everything we have accomplished together, from financials till quality matters and compliance, as well as all the improvements that we have put in place. We have been able to achieve all this because of our strong purpose, which is to make our hotel a better place to work and live in while building the future and protecting what matters the most, which is who we are as Shangri-La!

I would like to extend a big thank you to our executive committee members, all of you as hardworking colleagues, our discipline superiors and business partners who have gone above and beyond with their support. So as 2022 looms, we go into the new year with the spirit of faith, hope, plans and precious dreams to accomplish. We would have a challenging year ahead, but once we put the purpose of achievements into hearts and minds, nothing will be impossible in business and in our lives to accomplish.

Wishing you and your loved ones a Merry Christmas and a healthy, joyful and prosperous New Year ahead!

Why Hotels and how did you start? I started my hotelier career in 2013 as a Communications Coordinator at Traders Hotel Manila. As an Advertising and Journalism graduate, I was very interested to join the Communications team to work on cool and creative concepts for the hotel as back then, the property was rebranding to become Hotel Jen Manila. From then, I pursued my career handling a role from graphic designer, in-house photographer and social media specialist to Assistant Marketing Manager at Shangri-La Dubai.

What will you be focusing on mainly in the next few months? For the next few months, I aim to reach more audience, entice them to experience what the hotel and our restaurants can offer at the same time, I aim to keep everyone up to date with our latest offers, not only our guests but also our colleagues.

What are your hobbies and what do you like to do on your days off? I am very much into travelling, reading books, gym classes and yoga. If I am not in the office, I’m most probably hanging out by the beach.

What do you enjoy most about your work? Having graphic design and photography as my core skills, I enjoy adding life to normal hotel collateral, creating visuals for promotions, taking stories for social media and of course, having access to the best views and new restaurant offerings.

Why Hotels and how did you start? Never wanted a 9 to 6 job! Being an open personality, I always love to interact with different people, plenty of opportunity and a stable career. Started career with One & Only Resorts in Dubai in 2002 as a Bartender.

What do you enjoy most about your work? I enjoy working as a team, giving trainings to colleagues followed by guest experiencing our service.

Wave Day The Wave Day organized by the Front Office Team was a beauty pageant and each department participated actively for the title of MR & MS Shangri-La. It was an extravagant celebration that show cased the in-house beauty, wit and talent.

On 01 st November 2021, we invited our colleagues to attend the Global Virtual Town Hall Session.

Birthday Celebrations

In SLDB we take the time to celebrate our people especially on their birthdays. A complementary birthday cake is offered to our colleagues on their birthday.

National Day Celebrations

We celebrated the Myanmar National Day on 28th November with our 16 Myanmar colleagues . We celebrate our diversity, our differences & see people for who they are .The recognition of a common humanity is the first step to celebration.

Front Office @ Team Building Activity

Before the end of the year, the Front Office Team went for a picnic at Kite Beach. They played board games and shared a picnic lunch having an amazing time bonding together.

We are thrilled to announce CHI, The Spa has won “ 3rd Best Spa”at the Bayut Awards*

Your Choice Awards 2021 honored the spirit of the city by celebrating the leading brands and organizations that are well-loved by Dubai residents with 27 awards across seven categories.

We received more than 230,000 public votes in two weeks, which determined the fate of the finalists and CHI, The Spa won “3rd best spa "during the exclusive awards The scintillating ceremony was held for the first time on November 2nd at the Dubai Opera.

Dubai Fitness Challenge Event Dubai Fitness Challenge was celebrated with an array of fitness events which included Yoga, Zumba, Jumpfit etc. which was incredibility well received by our guests.
