First Drill: Stop missing on the amateur side of the hole (low side). Notice on this breaking putt, I used tees to block the center of the hole. The entry point is my right side of the center of the hole. Practice identifying the entry point on your breaking putts and you will see less putts missing on that low side. Second Drill: Make more putts. One component of making more putts is improving starting your ball on your intended line. This double gate drill requires you to start the ball on line and reduce the amount of cup used. Try this drill with a 6 foot straight putt and see your percent of longer putts go up. Third Drill: Test your skill. Start by finding the entry point of your breaking putt and place two tees by the hole where the ball will enter the hole. Second place two tees closer to you golf ball and they will the gate to get your putt started on your intended line. Add a final tee gate midway between the two gates already put down. This dill will test your read and speed verses the true read and speed needed to make this putt. Click on the image below to watch the drills! MY FAVORITE PUTTING DRILLS BY NANCY HARVEY, LPGA

The words of Phil Jackson are so on point for us, “The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team.” Whether you came out to play, or just sent a note, your presence and strength was felt. You made us winners for 2020 and we are still a strong TEAM. Continue to Stay Safe and Keep the Faith! Lillie Simpkins, WNHGO Chairperson 2020-2021 We invite you to join the WNHGO! The WNHGO Fall Luncheon scheduled for 10 November has been cancelled. A zoom meeting will be scheduled to close out the year on that day. The WNHGO Spring/Summer Golf Season ended on 27 October with the final play date at Fairfax. Many thanks to the Pro Staff who allowed us to keep our seasonal play dates in view of the many challenges they faced to accommodate the members during these unprecedented times. We were blessed, as I have learned that most of the Nine Hole Ladies Groups from other clubs were unable to keep their play dates. it was delightful to see so many of our members come out for fellowship and encourage each other while social distancing. WOMEN’S NINE HOLE GOLF ORGANIZATION

A JOKE, A QUOTE AND A TIP FROM TYLER TUCKER

QUOTE “Golf is about how well you accept, respond to, and score with your misses much more so than it is a game of your perfect shots.”

JOKE Steve and Phil head out to the golf course for nine holes. On the first tee, Steve turns to Phil and says, “What’s the bet? Wanna for five bucks?” Phil agrees, and they tee off. It’s a good match, and as they approach the ninth tee box, Phil is ahead by one stroke. After Steve hits a great drive, right down the middle, Phil steps up and promptly hooks a ball into deep rough and trees. “C’mon,” Phil says to Steve , “help me look for my ball. I’ll look over in these trees, and you look over there.” They look and look and look, but the ball cannot be found. The three-minute time limit on searching for lost balls is about to run out. Phil gets desperate. He gives a quick glance over to Steve to see if he is looking, then swiftly reaches into his pocket and drops a new Chrome Soft in the rough. “Found my ball!” Phil shouts out triumphantly. Steve looks at his friend with great disappointment. “After all the years we’ve been friends,” Steve says, “you’d cheat me at golf for a measly five bucks?” “What do you mean cheat?” Phil asks indignantly. “I found my ball sitting right here!” Steve lets out a heavy sigh. “And you’d lie to me, too? All for a tiny little sum of money? You’d cheat me and lie to me, for what? For five bucks? I can’t believe you’d stoop so low.” “Well what makes you so sure I’m cheating and lying, anyway?” Phil asks. “Because,” Steve replies, “I’ve been standing on your ball for the last three minutes!”

– Dr. Bob Rotella

TIP As we approach the cooler weather in the Mid-Atlantic and get to what is more of the off season, many want to keep their golf games in shape and even improve in that time. There are some very valuable things you can do besides just hitting ball and playing. Stretching is of the most important things you can do to maintain and even improve your golf game during downtime. As we spend more time indoors, which has some added meaning during the pandemic, we can do some simple stretches to keep and improve our flexibility when we can’t get outdoors or to the club as often. Doing simple stretches for 15 minutes every day like bending down to touch your toes or side to side stretches with a club over your shoulders can help keep you moving forward even during bad weather. Add some stretching to your daily routine this off season and I am sure you’ll notice a difference on the golf course and maybe even in day-to-day life.
