SALINE COUNTY LIBRARY

OCTOBER 2020

GREAT NEWS! Beginning October 5, you can make a reservation to browse the library shelves for 45-minute time slots. CLICK HERE for more information, a list of rules and policies for browsing, and to reserve your time slot.

Which horror movie villain are you? Take our quiz to find out! Get to know our staff with their new Bitmoji rooms! Full list of virtual events and the calendar for October! Find out about our spooky Halloween movie night packs!

HOURS: M-F 9AM - 5:30 PM & Sat 9AM - 4PM *Our buildings are closed to patrons with the exception of reservations. Computer reservations can be made by calling (501) 778-4766 for Benton and (501) 847-2166 for Bryant. To make a browsing reservation, go to www.SalineCountyLibrary.org and complete the “Browsing the Shelves” form. You can still place materials on hold by using our online catalog and use our curbside pick-up service when they are available. (Hours are subject to change if the board deems necessary as a safety precaution. Any closing information will be posted on our website and social media.)

I’ve talked about the Mid-Arkansas Regional Library System before, but I want to delve a little deeper into our membership in the consortium. Libraries join consortiums because there are multiple benefits: sharing of materials, leveraging dollars when purchasing, sharing performers and training opportunities, sharing staff and, in our case, making it easier on patrons to use any of our branches since we are geographically close. Mid-Ark is made up of Saline County Library, Grant County Library, Malvern-Hot Spring County Library, Cleveland County Library and Dallas County Library. Saline County Library shares two collections with the libraries in Mid-Ark—our physical collection of books, DVDs, etc. and our Overdrive digital collection of eBooks, eAudiobooks and eMagazines. If you go to our catalog, you can search for materials from all five libraries. If Saline County doesn’t own an item, you can put a hold on it and have it delivered here in Benton or Bryant for you to pick up. We have delivery between our libraries twice a week. It expands our collection tremendously—in fact, it doubled it. One of the other great things during this pandemic is the Overdrive (or Libby )collection. Everyone has been making great use of the digital materials in it. The important thing to remember is when you login, look for the Mid-Arkansas Regional Library instead of Saline County Library when you select your library. Mid-Ark also has an app so you can access your library account on your phone. You can see your checkouts and holds, check out digital materials and even use some of our online resources like Mango Languages, Kanopy, Brainfuse, Freegal or Lynda.com. So keep Mid-Ark in mind. It’s your gateway to a lot of great resources. Sincerely, Patty Hector
