Protection Team News HOLD ON TIGHT FOR A BUMPY RIDE

VOL 14, ISSUE 7

Hopefully, everyone has their hurricane plan in place. The 2022 season has just begun, and we have already had our first named storm. Granted, it wasn’t a wind event, but it sure was a water event for our friends in South Florida. Please get your plan ready and make sure your flood policy is paid and in-force. All signs indicate we will be busy again. Remember, it only takes one storm to ruin your year. Speaking of storms, the governor called a special session the last week of May to address the property insurance issues. Yes, the legislature passed a number of bills we hope will help with skyrocketing homeowners’ premiums, but I can tell you NOTHING in these passed bills will have an immediate impact on reducing your premiums. Sorry for speaking the truth … As I told my wife, Melanie, as the special session was happening, no matter what gets passed and signed by the governor, the bills would be challenged in court. Sure enough, the first day the courts opened, following the signing of the bills, the first lawsuits got filed and the legislation was put on hold. This is just like the bills passed in 2021 — they are still tied up in the court system. Unfortunately, these fixes are too little and too late for any insurance company ordered to come up with a financial plan in a very short period of time, or else they will be placed in receivership and liquidated. The rumor on the street is that four or five more insurance companies are in the very same situation, just before the very busy part of hurricane season. Fun times in our industry. Hold on tight; this ride is going to be very bumpy. Something else very bumpy has been the Tampa Bay Lightning playoff run. I have to admit I did NOT even think we could beat the Florida Panthers, let alone sweep them in four straight games after our

head-to-head performance in the regular season. But I was WRONG, and the Lightning are showing why they are back-to-back Stanley Cup Champions. As I write this article, they are still playing against the New York Rangers, so I can’t say if they made it to the Stanley Cup finals or not. That will have to wait until next month. Go Bolts! The Tampa Bay Rays are still fighting hard and recently split a four-game series with the New York Yankees, which is a good sign. But they didn’t gain or lose any ground on the league leading team. It’s still a long season, so let’s hope they can keep this up for a post-season opportunity. Until next month, –Darren

PROTECT AGAINST THE UNEXPECTED Choosing the Right Motorhome Coverage for You The RV market is continuing to grow, spurred in part by the pandemic. In the past two years, we’ve seen a rise in the number of people who are turning to motorhomes for safe ways to vacation and see the country. But just as it's important to choose the right motorhome for you and your family, it’s paramount to purchase appropriate insurance coverage for it. Upon registering your RV, you are required to carry the minimum amount of coverage as determined by your state of residence. But what is the importance of insuring your motorhome and how do you choose the policy that is right for you? Motorhome insurance protects you in the event that you cause damages or injuries to others or their property while operating your RV. This insurance can also cover the cost of damages to your RV if a covered incident takes place. When choosing a policy, there are many things to consider in terms of protection. Each policy offers a variety of coverages

THEY CAN’T WHAT? 5 Strange Things That Are Banned in the World of Professional Sports In the world of sports, just like in life, players have rules and regulations that they must abide by, or they're out! But just because they're enforced doesn't mean some rules make complete sense. Check out these five strange rules that ban seemingly normal activities in the world of sports, some without any explanation at all! The NHL Tuck Rule Having been in effect since 2013, Rule 9.5 governs uniforms and how they must be worn in the NHL. All protective equipment, except gloves, headgear, and goaltenders’ leg guards, must be worn under the uniform. The rule states that “players are not permitted to tuck their jersey into their pants in such a manner where the top padding of the pant … is exposed outside the jersey.” Go figure! If players tuck their jerseys in, they’ll receive a penalty. The NBA Social Media Rule Players in the NBA cannot use social media platforms during the game and 45 minutes before and after their games. In a world driven by social media, some may view this as harsh, and others as appropriate, but, either way, it may help reduce some fines from unruly posts! The NFL No Ball Spinning Rule In the NFL, football spinning as a celebratory action is banned. If a player does spin the football, he will be penalized. In previous seasons, players would spin or twirl the ball in the end zone — but, some took offense to it. The FIFA Stay Covered Rule In 2003, it was ruled that all FIFA players must keep their shirts on and no celebratory stripping was allowed. This had to do, in part, with the act appearing offensive to some, but even more so, advertisers were upset that their logos were not displayed on the shirtless athlete’s bodies. It makes sense, but only a little bit! The NBA No Logos Rule In the NBA, players can only display logos on their basketball shoes. According to item 5 of Section H in their handbook, the only area where they are able to show logos on their bodies, or as part of the uniform, is on their shoes. No branded socks or sweatbands, and definitely no haircuts styled into a logo!

that vary, depending on how you use your RV. Certain policies are better-suited for recreational use, and others are more geared for those who use their motorhome as a full- time residence. Depending on how often the motorhome is operated, you may also need separate liability insurance. It’s important to keep in mind that if you have another vehicle and do not live out of your RV, you’ll want to choose a policy that lists the RV as a recreational vehicle so it is not treated as a secondary automobile on your policy! Keep the Smoke at Bay

Remove the Smell of Campfire Smoke There’s only one way to make the great outdoors even greater — the campfire. But if your campfire smell lingers on your clothes for days after you enjoy the fire, it can be anything but “great.” Kill the smell with this go-to guide. But first — why does this happen? Fabrics cling to whatever it comes in contact with, and some fabrics, like cotton, tend to cling harder than others. Smoke is light and small, so it can easily penetrate fibers of your fabric, and wood may contain chemicals and compounds that can be very damaging to clothing. Thus, not removing the smoke smell could permanently alter your clothes. Go bitter or go home! Lemon juice and white vinegar are strong enough to cut through stains and smelly particles, but they’re gentle enough to keep your clothing in good condition. There are a few ways you can do this. You can soak your clothes in vinegar and cold water prior to washing. Alternatively, add a splash of lemon juice to your washing machine before washing any smoky clothes. Try adding a little H2O. Water is actually a very harsh compound. In a heated form, it has the power to kill bacteria and eliminate gnarly smells. So, if you have strong, lingering campfire smoke smells, try washing your clothes in very hot water. This will pull the smoke from your fabric. However, don’t use this method all the time. As mentioned, water can be harsh — even to Rather than relying on solutions or water to clean your garments, hang your smoky clothes outside. This is a useful solution for those who have items that cannot be washed at home, but it may not be completely effective. If that’s the case, try rubbing your clothes with dryer sheets to lift the smell, too! Try It: Don’t trust a home remedy with your favorite clothing item. Instead, place a few T-shirts you don’t care about near your next campfire. The following day, try a remedy on that shirt! If you run into any difficulties, consult with a trusted dry-cleaning expert. the very item you’re cleaning. It’s time to keep it organic.
