UNIFIED EFFORTS, INC. OUT OF SCHOOL TIME PROGRAM

Present 2020

Past 2015

FIRST TEAM VS SECOND TEAM An authorized Penn-North Community Program

Welcome! Our mission statement is simple: reduce summer learning loss Our location is purposeful: Penn-North Community Our groundwork is simple: love of community

FIRST TEAM VS SECOND TEAM A Baltimore, MD home-grown grassroots organization nonprofit 501 (c)(3)

Our History In the spring of 2015 the founder and executive director, Debbie B. Ramsey, intended to bring a no cost to parents an out of school time program to West Baltimore’s historic Penn-North community. One phone call, to the Penn-North Community Association’s president, Ms. Annie J. Hall, propelled UE’s program with an invitation to present our plans to the Penn-North community. Fortified with their unanimous endorsement our program opened its doors to school-aged boys and girls. Since that time UE has consistently provided the below services. 100% no cost to parents/primary care providers • Aviation and Aerospace : Field trips to Martin State Airport Flight simulators experienced for all students Classroom instruction Aviation museum Student co-pilot small engine plane experience • Dental Hygiene Education: Colgate’s Bright Smiles, Bright Future

Free dental screenings and reports on site Free dental hygiene packets for kids/parents • Sports Golf: Field trips to Pine Ridge Golf Course (Baltimore County) Soccer: Field trips to Baltimore Blasts Soccer games Swimming lessons from certified swim instructors Outdoor play activities • Academic Support: Creative Writing Workshop: Goucher College, Towson, MD • Black History Field trips: The Reginald Lewis African-American History Museum • Healthy Nutrition: Kids cooking with whole foods, on-site, program Hot breakfast/lunch • Financial Literacy for Kids: PNC Banking

• Youthworks site • First Aid for Kids • Sign Language for Kids • New Career Paths for Students • Community Engagement • I BelongMagazine.com Publication Project

Unified Efforts, Inc. Board members, and the executive director, are appreciative to receive the Penn-North community support. Our summer program is popular with our participating youth, and their parents. It is because of their endorsements via “word of mouth” that keeps our program relevant, and effective. Working together with other area organizations and stakeholders affords UE to develop deep roots in a neighborhood in need of intentional resources and programs that promotes economic stimulation with our” hiring from within” the community initiative: Our summer staffing is 100% community. Thus giving our children a sense of familiarity, cultural appreciation, and feeling safe in the space! To learn more about who we are and what we do, please visit our website at https://unifiedeffort.org Since our beginnings we have operated, solely, inside the Penn-North community. • Fulton Baptist Church Community Center • Pratt Library (Penn-North) • Coppin State University Physical Ed and Aquatic Center • Gethsemane Baptist Church Community Center It is because our youth UE sought to build a permanent facility for the benefit of having area school-age students to access much needed academic support, resources and a safe place to complete their academic responsibilities.

Unified Efforts, Inc. Out of School Time Program Capital Improvement Project Progress:

In 2018 UE purchased three vacant city-owned properties for the sole purpose of providing a cutting edge center for area school-age children and their families. In 2019 UE received approval from the Baltimore Municipal Zoning and Appeals Board. And, began the process of obtaining demolition permit from Baltimore city government In 2020 UE hired a local architectural firm to produced our design plans

Rendering by The Neighborhood Design Center Unified Efforts, Inc. Out of School Time Program is happy to provide our services. We are committed to enhancing the Penn-North community. Moving forward, we are seeking additional support, funding, and volunteers that will give our capital improvement project a forward thrust that will enable our children to receive the after and out of school time programs they will need to stay caught up with their academic responsibilities. Now, that UE has out-grown all of the community spaces we are asking all to support our efforts in the new construction of an out of school time program that will be constructed in 2020.
