AND DISNEY HASN’T BEEN THE SAME SINCE! I TATTLED ON MY UNCLE ...

2021 NOV

I recently learned a secret that even most die-hard Disney fans don’t know: Nov. 18 is Mickey Mouse Day! On that date way

than 20 years later, I can still remember walking through the park and seeing the “Honey, I Shrunk the Audience!” show live. We put on 3D glasses and suddenly everything looked HUGE. When the giant digital mice ran through the crowd, I could feel the wind on my legs! Then, the animators set a python on us. That was too much for 8-year-old me — I pulled off my glasses. A few feet away, my uncle John did the same thing! That was a tough trip for Uncle John. He wanted to take plenty of photos of me and my cousin enjoying the park, but his camera wasn’t cooperating. He fought with it all day, and eventually, it got the best of him! When we got back to the room, he’d had enough of the thing. He slammed it on the ground and it broke into what must have been 100 pieces!

back in 1928, Mickey made his first appearance in the short animated film “Steamboat Willie.” It’s crazy to think that one animated mouse made some of my favorite childhood memories possible. “Steamboat Willie” was way before my time, but I grew up watching other Disney classics like “Beauty and the

Beast” and “Aladdin” on VHS. The music and adventure of “Aladdin” completely captured my imagination (I wanted to fly on a magic carpet so badly), and “Beauty and the Beast” made me feel like part of the story. When Belle was fleeing through the forest and the wolves set off after her, I got so scared that I had to watch through my hands! Once, when I was about 8 years old, my uncle John and aunt Glenda took me to Disney World to experience the magic in person. My cousin Sean was about 3 at the time, and both of us were convinced that the Mickey Mouse character we met was the real Mickey. It was like walking right into the movies!

That night when my parents called to check in, I completely spilled the beans.

“Have you been behaving?” they asked.

“I have!” I said. “But Uncle John hasn’t. He killed the camera!”

To this day, they still can’t tell that story without cracking up!

I’ve been back to Disney quite a few times since John’s camera bit the dust, but nothing that memorable has happened. The only event that came close was our last ride down Splash Mountain — I got totally drenched on the first bump and looked like a drowned version of a “Honey, I Shrunk the Audience!” mouse by the end! I can’t wait until Bennett is old enough to understand the magic of Disney. Maybe by next Mickey Mouse Day, he’ll love the old animated characters as much as I did.

I had a little book for all the characters to sign and a Goofy hat with big droopy ears perched on my head. More

What Was on the Menu? Every Thanksgiving, we gather with our families and friends and pig out. Turkey, cranberry sauce, and stuffing, oh my! But did the Pilgrims actually eat all the same foods we do today? When we sit down at the Thanksgiving table, we are blessed with mashed potatoes, candied yams, green bean casserole, turkey, stuffing, and pumpkin pie. However, if we wanted to be historically accurate, we would need to change up that dinner spread a bit. THE FIRST THANKSGIVING

Are You M

YOU COULD FROM A CHI

When our team connected with Don Rasmussen, managing partner/certified tax strategist at Quartermaster Tax Management, we discovered something huge: Hundreds of chiropractors like you are making a major tax mistake that leaves thousands of dollars in credits on the table.

Historians know of a few foods on the table that Pilgrims and Wampanoags shared at Plymouth Colony in 1621. Wildfowl, corn (in grain form for porridge), and venison were sure to be served at the first Thanksgiving. Wild turkey was also a common and abundant food source but wasn’t likely the main course as it is today. A few days before the first Thanksgiving, the colony’s governor put four men in charge of hunting for birds for the feast, and they very likely returned with some turkey. However, as far as mashed potatoes are concerned, in the early 1600s, most Europeans and the Wampanoag had no idea what a potato was. They weren’t cultivated in North America until the 1700s. Likewise, cranberries were still very new to the Pilgrims, and they didn’t yet use them for food — instead, they used them to make dyes for fabrics!

Quartermaster Tax Management has specialized in helping chiropractors with their tax work since 2014. Because they’re so focused, they have a unique understanding of the profession and the tax credits connected to it. One of those is the R&D Tax Credit, an underutilized tax benefit that has been around since 1981. “[R&D Tax Credits] reward chiropractors who innovate through customized care plans or improve existing treatment through trial-and- error processes to remove uncertainty,” Don says. “Additionally, over 40 states also offer tax credits and incentives at the state level.”

For dessert, pumpkin pie was not yet a thing either. Although the Pilgrims liked pumpkins, they didn’t have the butter and wheat flour needed to make pie crust. Instead, they hollowed out the pumpkins (just like Halloween!) and filled them with milk and honey to make a custard and then roasted them. Although our Thanksgiving meals have changed over the years, it still is a fantastic time to get together and celebrate. In the spirit of evolving traditions, don’t be afraid to innovate to add your own personal traditional twist to the holiday as well!

Don has helped our team at Chiro1Source with tax planning for the last three years. When we asked him what you should do right now to prepare for next tax season, he offered three tips.

Missing Out on R&D Tax Credits? D SAVE $10,000 WITH ADVICE IROPRACTIC TAX EXPERT

BEAT BEZOS THIS HOLIDAY SEASON By Selling Exclusive Stopain Products in Your Clinic!

“First, complete a forecast of your net income to determine your tax liability and make sure you are prepared either to pay it or get help reducing it,” he says. “Once this number is determined, you need to work with a proactive tax reduction tax strategist to take legal steps to reduce your 2021 tax liability.” Finally, Don recommends being even more diligent in 2022. The Biden administration has proposed new tax changes that are likely to pass in Congress and could make cashing in on those credits as a chiropractor even more difficult in the future. Quartermaster Tax Management is so confident that they can save chiropractors $10,000 or more on their taxes that if you go to them and don’t hit that threshold, they’ll give you $100 for your time.

The holiday season is almost here, which means your patients are starting to do their Christmas shopping! It’s tough to compete with Amazon right now, but there is one way to ensure patients buy from you instead of Jeff Bezos: Offer them highly effective, affordable products that they can only find in your clinic. One company that prioritizes this is Stopain® Clinical, which sells pain-relieving products exclusively to health care professionals. Stopain® Clinical grew out of the popular retail analgesics brand Biofreeze (which we also sell at Chiro1Source.com), but its creators took pain relief a step further, creating a unique “penetration-enhancing formula” that doubles the amount of menthol and leverages other ingredients like MSM and glucosamine.

“If you schedule a free R&D feasibility assessment with us before Dec. 31, you will be guaranteed an opportunity to recover the R&D tax credits you missed from 2018–2020,” Don adds. Stopain® Clinical offers two different products through Chiro1Source.com that make great stocking stuffers: Stopain Clinical Topical Analgesic and Stopain Clinical Migraine & Headache. “Stopain Clinical Topical Analgesic is effective for muscle, joint, and soft-tissue type pain relief,” says Paul Timko, Stopain Clinical’s chief commercial officer. The Stopain Clinical Migraine & Headache Topical Gel product is “the world’s only topical pain relief solution [for those ailments].” Patients love how quickly Stopain® Clinical provides pain relief, and they also appreciate the three delivery systems: gel, roll-on, or spray allow for the patient to use the version that works best for their ailment. “The roll-on allows you to have a hands-free experience and also deliver massage with the roller ball to the muscles,” Timko explains. “The spray is for hard-to-reach spots — think of someone with lower back pain. They’re able to self-apply when maybe they couldn’t reach with their hands to apply a gel.” It’s also easy to use in the clinic because it works well with kinesiology tape: The gel does not affect the adhesion, and the spray can be applied on top of the tape to provide extended pain relief. During this time of year, Timko recommends hanging eye-catching miniature stockings in the clinic and filling them with Stopain® Clinical roll-ons, or passing out customized sample cards with your clinic’s name and logo and a Stopain Clinical® gel packet attached. His team can help you with both and to help clinics finish the year strong and start 2022 with a nice revenue boost, Chiro1Source will be offering the Stopain Clinical Ultimate Starter Pack: everything your clinic needs to get started for $99 ($400+ Clinic Retail Value). To get started, visit Chiro1Source.com and search “Stopain Clinical Ultimate.”

The Disney Trip Josh Will Never Forget 1 The First Thanksgiving Menu 2 The Secret to Saving Thousands on Your Taxes 2 Meet 2 Chiropractic Products Only YOU Can Sell 3 3 Personal Goals to Make 2022 Better 4

To do so, consider these goals all entrepreneurs must focus on at some point in their careers.

3 Goals Every Entrepreneur Needs in 2022

GOAL NO. 1: GET A LIFE You are more than the company you started. Plus, having hobbies or personal interests, outside of your work, can help you excel in work. It allows your brain to grow in new ways, sparking fresh ideas and perspectives. Consider activities that you’re interested in learning more about — like painting, podcasting, reading, or running — and get started. Maybe you’ll fail, but just keep trying! You may find a new activity that brings you the joy you need. GOAL NO. 2: SAVE MORE Many of the dimes you earn as a business owner go back into the company, but don’t forget to consider your future. Is your retirement plan in order? Do you have a plan should your company need to close? Will your family be secure? Consider these questions and hire a trusted financial advisor who can help you find personal investment success. GOAL NO. 3: MEET NEW PEOPLE Becoming inundated by daily, menial tasks can make us miss opportunities. This is where meeting new people can be so valuable! By doing so, you create a network of people who have different experiences than your own. They can help you see beyond your biases and discover a new path. Who knows? You just might find the next great venture for your company!

By now, you should have an idea of what you want your business to achieve in 2022, but have you considered how you will grow during that year — and the impact that could have on your business? Often, entrepreneurs and business leaders take on the identity of their companies, but in order to personally thrive and to see their companies take off, they have to grow right alongside it.
