OUR MISSION:

Our goal is to serve you with such a great experience that you: 1. Thank the person who sent you here 2. Refer people you care about to us

Celebrating success with friendly competition.

July was a month of opportunity and growth for Spa City. At the clinic, goal-setting and team building was our focus this past month. Team building in any context is beneficial. It fosters a sense of community, builds trust, and increases effectiveness as a unit. Goals, in a similar fashion, give work a purpose and a destination. They are like a GPS system that keeps you on the right track when you momentarily lose focus. With these things in mind, we set a goal for our staff that required each person to be a next-level team member. I wanted our team’s ability to face a challenge with determination to rise to a new level. Cooperation and communication were essential in reaching our mark. Aligning ourselves around this objective gave us a sense of purpose that motivated us to do our best. In an awesome display of initiative, the Spa City Therapy crew accomplished this goal for the month in just two weeks!

Team building extends past setting a goal and meeting it; another aspect is extremely important: reward for a job well done. To celebrate our success and to bond over a fun activity, we took a trip up to the local trampoline park for some friendly competition: good, old fashioned trampoline dodgeball. The night was a blast (more literally for some, who took a few solid shots to the head), and it was great to connect and have fun outside the office. We learned a valuable lesson over the course of the month: when we work as a unit toward a common goal, our efforts are multiplied. The synergy of teamwork is an all-important factor in our productivity. We will continue to implement goal-setting and team-building exercises in our clinic. As we work on these attributes, our team’s ability to solve problems and have fun in the process will shine through.

Staff Spotlight Sydney Moll, PT Tech

her co-workers and her patients, some of whom “have come back two or three times within the last two years and feel like family.” Sydney will be studying at Arkansas State University to become a Physical Therapist Assistant, with the goal of returning to the Spa City Therapy team when she earns her degree. Sydney’s parents, the current staff at Spa City, the student interns who have worked on the team, and her patients have all influenced and inspired her to take the next step and become a PTA. Her last day will be August 18, so be sure to stop by and give her a true Spa City Therapy sendoff!

Sydney Moll joined the Spa City Therapy team about two years ago. After realizing her love for helping patients toward healing, she will be transitioning from her position as a Physical Therapy Technician to go back to school at Arkansas State University. Sydney has loved getting to know her patients’ personalities and giving them the tools to return to their normal lives. One of her favorite moments at Spa City Therapy was the first time she worked with a patient as a PT Tech. Sydney remembered being nervous, but the lady she was helping “made [her] feel so comfortable,” and she has loved working with patients ever since. Sydney said she will miss

“How Should I Take Care of My Back?” 1. Keep a Good Posture

5. Physical Therapy Our physical therapists are medical experts in evaluating spine and body movement. By having a regular check up, you can make sure your body is in good condition to tackle the activities you love. If you have a history of back pain, injury or are currently experiencing aches and pains, we can analyze your problem and construct a treatment program that will work best for your individual problem. With soothing hands-on therapy and targeted easy exercises we can help you return quickly to feeling your best. Even if you suffer from severe pain we can help you get out of pain and living the life you deserve. Call Today!

3. Stay Flexible Flexibility is key to maintaining a healthy back. By keeping your body flexible, the normal forces of movement and lifting can be distributed across the spine, rather than focused onto a few segments, which can then fail. An easy stretching routine everyday can keep you feeling great and put a spring in your step. 4. Stay Strong You have hundreds of muscles, which control the movement of your spine. Major muscles that support the spine are called your core muscles and include your abdominal, pelvis, spinal and hip muscles. By keeping your core muscles strong, you support your spine and have the ability to easily control lifting, quick movements, bending and a lot more.

When you are standing, imagine a string through the top of your head lifting you straight up. This puts your neck, shoulders, spine and hips in natural alignment. With sitting, make sure you sit back in the chair with your feet on the floor and your lower back supported. Your shoulders should not slouch when sitting. Avoid soft couches when you can. 2. Lift Properly Picking things up is a normal part of our day. Even if you pick up something light, your back muscles have to lift the weight of your upper torso and control that movement. Make sure you always face what you need to pick up, squat keeping your spine straight and push with your leg muscles. This helps reduce the excessive pressure on your spine.

The Highest Compliment Nothing is more important to us than helping people get back to doing the things they love. We care about our patients and our community and want to help as many people as we can reach optimal function. The opportunity to touch lives is just one reason we’re so grateful for your referrals! To us, a referral is the highest compliment, and we want to say THANK YOU to everyone who has trusted us enough to send family and friends our way.

Why Do We Call Them “The Dog Days Of Summer”?

Sirius is so bright that the ancient Romans thought it radiated extra heat toward Earth. During the summer, when Sirius rises and sets with the Sun, they thought Sirius added heat to the Sun’s heat to cause hotter summer temperatures. For the ancient Romans, the dog days of summer occurred from about July 24 to around August 24. Over time, though, the constellations have drifted somewhat. Today, The Old Farmer’s Almanac lists the traditional timing of the dog days of summer as being July 3 until August 11. Although the dog days of summer are usually the hottest, they don’t have anything to do with either dogs or the star Sirius. Instead, the tilt of the Earth explains why these days tend to be the summer’s hottest.

Many people believe the phrase “dog days of summer” stems from the fact that dogs tend to be a bit on the lazy side during the hottest days of summer. Of course, who can blame them? With that much fur, dogs that exercise during the hot days of summer can overheat easily. However, the phrase doesn’t stem from lazy dogs lying around on hot and humid days. Instead, to find the answer, we only need to look to the summer sky. The ancient Romans called the hottest, most humid days of summer “diēs caniculārēs” or “dog days.” The name came about because they associated the hottest days of summer with the star Sirius. Sirius was known as the “Dog Star” because it was the brightest star in the constellation Canis Major (Large Dog). Sirius also happens to be the brightest star in the night sky.

During summer in the Northern Hemisphere, the tilt of the Earth causes Sun’s light to hit the Northern Hemisphere at a more direct angle, and for a longer period of time throughout the day. This means longer, hotter days during the summer. This explains why the dog days of summer are from late January to early March in the Southern Hemisphere. The actual dates of the dog days of summer will vary by location, depending upon latitude and climate.
