This month (October) is National Physical Therapy Month and there has never been a better time to celebrate the contribution of physical therapy to our ever changing health scene. With so many people being treated with medication, we (physical therapists) can provide a different solution through movement and exercise, helping patients improve strength, flexibility, and range of motion. It’s a great option for all who need pain management, improved mobility and freedom to do the things they love. Patient education is a key component of what we do and we love teaching our patients how to take control of their own health. Over the past year we have experienced crazy growth and have been actively searching for staff who “fit” our culture and treatment approach to our clients. In our effort to serve you better, we are delighted to introduce two new physical therapists to our team! Both of these professionals embody our core values and have a passion for helping our community get back to physical freedom.

As we continue to meet the needs of our patients and community, we have begun to take a deeper look into our purpose , mission , and core values . We want everything we do to reflect these values with the ultimate goal of benefiting the people we serve. Our purpose is “To help our community live their lives to the fullest, unhindered by physical challenges.” Our core values have to support that goal. We must bring solutions, not problems, be humble and always learning, have fun with our patients in a positive atmosphere, realize that failure is part of success, pass on to our patients what we continually discover, and we must leave our community better than how we found it! When we deliver on these to each person that enters our clinic doors, we will not have a problem achieving our mission of “To be the undisputed first choice for physical therapy in Hot Springs & Hot Springs Village.” Looking forward to seeing you soon! -Lee Sowerbutts

Staff Spotlight Leslyn Graves PT, DPT

Leslyn Graves PT, DPT Leslyn Graves joined the Spa City Therapy team on September 5th of this year. Leslyn is a recent graduate from the University of Central Arkansas Physical Therapy program. Leslyn knew going into college that she wanted to pursue a medical profession. She loved learning about the anatomy of the human body and had a passion for physical therapy even before earning her degree. She combined her love of sports and the human body and studied at UCA to become a physical therapist. After receiving her degree in Physical Therapy, Leslyn accepted a position at Spa City Therapy as a full-time PT.

Outside of work, Leslyn loves playing sports and spending time outdoors. She played volleyball, basketball, and softball growing up, and was also a part of a cheer company in college where she taught and mentored other young athletes. Leslyn also enjoys the outdoors—hiking, floating, and just taking in the beauty of nature. One of Leslyn’s most memorable moments is the day she graduated with her doctorate of physical therapy degree, she knew that years of hard work had finally paid off. Leslyn is excited to continue her journey with Spa City Therapy and can’t wait to serve the Hot Springs and Hot Springs Village communities at Spa City Therapy and Village Golf & Physical Therapy.

Patient Testimonials

“I am doing a lot better thanks to Lee and his awesome staff.” “Before I started physical therapy for my knee, I was having trouble getting in and out of the car. I also had trouble standing up from a sitting position. I had total knee replacement and 6 weeks of physical therapy. I am doing a lot better thanks to Lee and his awesome staff. They are very encouraging in getting you where you need to be in your therapy. I have been to several physical therapy clinics, but Spa City Therapy is the best. I would highly recommend them to anyone who needs physical therapy.” - Karen G. “I am forever grateful and thankful to have attended your workshop and physical therapy sessions.” “I had two cortisone injections in my knee that didn’t bring any relief. I knew a knee replacement was in my future. Then I saw there was a knee replacement workshop at the Natorium. Attending was the best thing I ever did. Lee explained about knee replacement and everything related including prehab (physical therapy before surgery) and rehab. After the workshop, I went for an evaluation and it was decided that prehab would benefit me. I did eight sessions before my knee replacement, which made me much stronger so rehab after surgery was easier. I felt accomplishment when I could do those leg lifts today, that yesterday seemed impossible and when I didn’t need that walker. Thank you for the wonderful experience. I am forever grateful and thankful to have attended your workshop and physical therapy sessions. You are the BEST!!” - Sandy K.

Have you met your annual insurance deductible?

The Highest Compliment Nothing is more important to us than helping people get back to doing the things they love. We care about our patients and our community and want to help as many people as we can reach optimal function. The opportunity to touch lives is just one reason we’re so grateful for your referrals! To us, a referral is the highest compliment, and we want to say THANK YOU to everyone who has trusted us enough to send family and friends our way. An insurance deductible is the amount of money that you must pay before your insurance company pays for your medical services. If your deductible is met, your Physical Therapy may not cost you anything. Patients with family plans or those who have had major surgeries or have a chronic illness are especially likely to have a $0 balance remaining on their out-of- pocket expenses. This means that the cost of physical therapy could be minimal or completely covered by the patient’s insurance plan. If you are close to or have met your insurance deductable for the year, then now is the time to come in for Physical Therapy! Are you feeling aches & pains? Need to work on your core? Let us help you get a head start for 2018. Contact us today to schedule your appointment.

October Is National Physical Therapy Month!

The APTA also has specific PT Month logos for free use by members of the organization. These logos can be used electronically on websites or on signage during the month of October to increase community outreach.

National Physical Therapy Month is celebrated in the United States each October. The goal of the month-long celebration is to raise awareness of the important role that physical therapists and physical therapy assistants play in helping people decrease pain, improve mobility, and engage in healthy lifestyles. The History of National Physical Therapy Month Initially, National Physical Therapy Week was celebrated each June starting in 1981. In 1992, the week was moved to October so as to not conflict with the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) national conference in June. It was then declared that the entire month of October would be designated National Physical Therapy Month. National Physical Therapy Month is a recognized observance on the National Health Observances Calendar. How Is National Physical Therapy Month Celebrated? If you have been a physical therapy patient during the month of October, there is a good chance that the clinic you went to was celebrating National Physical Therapy Month. Often, staff members wear shirts with the APTA logo, and many times small gifts are given to patients promoting the month.

During National Physical Therapy Month physical therapists are encouraged to engage their communities in activities to promote healthy lifestyles and to raise awareness of the importance of physical therapy. Clinics may hold special events like posture screenings, balance assessments, or fun runs to get the community involved in fitness and exercise. National Physical Therapy Month is a wonderful opportunity for physical therapists to educate the public about the role that physical therapists play in helping to manage pain, improve mobility, and restore function. Be sure to visit your local physical therapist in October to see what he or she may have planned for National Physical Therapy Month.
