REMEMBERING MY FAVORITE CHILDHOOD VACATION COWBOY, MEET GHOST TOWN

When I was a little kid, my favorite movie in the world was “The Legend of the Lone Ranger.” Back when video rental stores were still a thing, my dad used to rent the

Thanks to that movie, I was pretty obsessed with cowboy culture. We had a swing that looked like a horse, and I used to dress up in my jeans and cowboy boots and ride it like a bucking bronco. Considering that, it’s probably no surprise that one of my favorite childhood vacations was a trip I took with my parents to Maggie Valley Ghost Town. If you’ve never visited Maggie Valley when it was open, you missed out on one of the coolest attractions in North Carolina. The “ghost town” was basically a Wild West- themed amusement park that operated from 1961 to 2002. They had a train ride, a bunch of cool old shops, and a troupe of reenactors dressed up to look like pioneers, cowboys, and outlaws. We visited when I was 7 or 8, right in the middle of my cowboy phase, and the whole experience blew my mind. I can still remember the actors pretending to start a shootout beside and around us. They ran across the top of the train, and some even fell to their deaths — or at least that’s what I thought was happening. It doesn’t seem like so long ago that I was the little boy riding that train. Now, I’m a dad, and I have a baby boy of my own! Holy cow does time fly. I know you probably have a thousand questions about my son, and I promise I’ll answer them all in my next newsletter. For now, Marah and I are just enjoying the little guy’s arrival and daydreaming about the future. Do you think my son will have a cowboy phase? Maybe he’ll be into Power Rangers instead (my other childhood obsession before “The Legend of the Lone Ranger”). Heck, maybe he’ll love a movie or cartoon that isn’t even out yet. I can’t wait to find out and to take him on memorable vacations like the one my family took to Maggie Valley. So far, being a dad is tough, but 1,000% worth it.

VHS tape for me. Every time we sent it back, I’d beg him to go and rent it again so I could rewatch it. I still remember the day when, after five or six rentals, he looked across the counter at the clerk and asked, “Can I just buy this?” I went home with “Lone Ranger” in my arms, feeling like a real cowboy. My favorite scene in the movie was the one where John Reid (the main character, played by Klinton Spilsbury) buries his family and decides to become The Lone Ranger. Like magic,

he transforms from a regular Texas ranger into a superhero, complete with dramatic music, a majestic horse, and his signature black mask. I loved the music in that scene so much that when it came on, I’d rewind it just to watch it over and over again.

Stay tuned for baby photos and the full story in next month’s newsletter!

HOW HABIT TRACKING AND DAILY RESOLUTIONS COULD TRANSFORM YOUR LIFE

HEROES D HOW THE LUMIN

How many times did you wash your hands in 2020? Thousands, right? As someone

who works in a clinic, you’ve probably always been hyper- aware of cleanliness, but the COVID-19 pandemic took everyone’s paranoia to the next level.

Yearly resolutions are so last year … if they’re your only resolutions, that is.

Having long-term goals isn’t a bad thing, but do you have a daily plan to reach them? The huge boost of motivation in January isn’t always enough to sustain you all year long. That’s why there are major benefits to starting new healthy habits, whether you increase your weekly exercise time, eat healthier foods, or work on getting better or more sleep.

We think anything that can help ease those worries for you and your patients is worth exploring. That’s why early last year, we started hunting down the most effective cleaning products and sterilization devices on the market. During that process, we discovered an amazing invention: the Lumin Multi-Purpose UV Sanitizer or Lumin UV.

The Lumin UV is basically a high-tech sanitation box that uses short-wavelength ultraviolet light technology. It was originally developed to sanitize CPAP masks and tubing to hospital standards, but last year, chiropractic clinics around the country started using it to clean other small items like masks, cell phones, wallets, and keys. In just five minutes, the Lumin UV will kill 99.9% of most bacteria, viruses, molds, and fungi, including the coronavirus.

Luckily, sticking with these habits might be as easy as making daily resolutions to complement your yearly goals.

B.J. Fogg, a Stanford University professor and author of “Tiny Habits: The Small Changes That Change Everything,” notes that tiny habits can make a new habit easy to implement into your daily ritual. For example, taking a short daily walk could lead to an exercise habit, or keeping an apple in your bag every day could encourage healthier snacking. It’s important that you stick with it because habits take a long time to create. One study published by the European Journal of Social Psychology asked people about a simple habit they wanted to form, like drinking water at lunch or taking a walk before dinner. They found that the average amount of time it took before the action became automatic was 66 days! Don’t be too hard on yourself if you miss a day, but know that sticking to a new habit is serious work, so starting small might help you out. Another important aspect of forming new daily habits is rewarding yourself. Bad habits, like smoking, have an inherent reward. However, healthy habits can have rewards too! Try consuming a bit of dark chocolate after a workout or treating yourself to a fresh beverage or relaxing to a podcast after tackling an important task. Find ways to reward yourself, and you’ll be more likely to stick to your new habit.

JANUARY MIDNIGHT NEW PARTY WINTER YEAR

Certain daily resolutions don’t have to be related to exercise or diet to majorly improve your life. For example, having a gratitude journal might boost your long-term happiness by 10% and improve your blood pressure. Don’t hesitate to improve your quality of life! Just start small, and you’ll be amazed by how far you’ll go.

Chiro1Source has been around for 20 years, but there’s no reason for our technology to be as old as our company! We’re always looking for ways to improve the shopping experience for you, and this winter we decided to do something big: We revamped our whole website. press a button to start the cleaning process. After five minutes, your mask and car keys will come out sparkling and sanitized — all without any nasty ozone odors or residues. Many of our clients are already using the Lumin UV in their clinics. Some of them even have two: one for patients to use to sanitize their items when they arrive, and one for staff (aka health care heroes!) to clean their keys, masks, and other personal effects behind the scenes. This is a great way to show your patients that you’re going above and beyond to keep them and your staff safe during these scary times.

The checkout process is much easier now, whether you’re ordering supplies from your desktop computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone. We’ve even added digital editions of all of our past newsletters. If you ever want to revisit an old article, that resource is there for you now! We can’t wait to use the fancy new features on our website to help you get in the mood for each season (March Madness, anyone?) and showcase our upcoming flash sales and specials. Business Budgeting for 2021

BUSINESS BUDGETING FOR 2021 YOU CAN STILL PLAN AROUND UNPREDICTABILITY

KNOW WHAT TO INCLUDE Your budget needs to have flexible sales goals and realistic expense plans this year. Many businesses are having to change their marketing focus and invest differently, so you have to be willing to adapt your budget too. As you set revenue goals, be aware of your margins and get flexible with the way you’re achieving them if you want to improve them. Also take into account new expenses you may have in response to 2020, like staffing changes and Paycheck

This is the time of year when businesses would usually be looking at their budget and planning for the coming year. But COVID-19 has made the future entirely unpredictable, which makes properly planning your budget difficult. But all is not lost — there are some basic budgeting tactics you can implement to face 2021 with confidence. CREATE A FORECAST If you’re not entirely confident in your ability to forecast revenue for 2021, you’re not alone. But you do still have options. If 2020 went great, perhaps try setting your sights up 10% from last year. If you want to play it safe, keep your forecast on par with 2020. If even that doesn’t feel reliable, then jump back to 2019 and use it as a base for creating your budget. You can ramp up 10% or 20% from there.
