MIYC Extended Cruise Key West & Faro Blanco

Belle was a special treat, followed by an exceptional meal at the Lighthouse Grill. During the day, a small group went to the Dolphin Research Center and swam with the dolphins. Sandy Wallen scouted the Artists’ Colony for fun ideas for the MIYC Ship’s Store, and Aquafit in the pool drew many. We departed on a calm and sunny day with amazing visibility. As usual, the weather improved as we approached Marco! All in all, it was good times with good friends—it doesn’t get any better than this! (See more photos on pg. 2)

By Peggy Frazier A group of 26 MIYC Members departed Marco Island on November 1st, headed for Key West, Galleon Marina. Led by Jim and Linda Marr’s Blue Moon, the fleet departed in rough and challenging seas. Seafari II, Good Juju, Liquid Assets and Kentucky Belle successfully completed the trip along

with Blue Moon. Some boats turned back, but their crews came by car to join the fun. We gathered for c o c k t a i l s o n Membe r s ’ boa t s followed by meals at wo n d e r f u l l o c a l s p o t s l i k e t h e Commodore’s Club and the Rooftop Cafe. Some slept on their boats, others opted for the Marker Resort close by.

We worked off the extra calories with Aquafit at the Marker’s pool. We also toured historic places like Hemingway’s house and museum. Some went fishing, and we all enjoyed the catch prepared as appetizers at dinner. Next, our adventure moved on to the Faro Blanco Resort in Marathon. A cocktail party onboard Kentucky

Southern Dining with Chef Bob at the Piano The Southern 'Fine' dining on November 17 was a real hit with the Members. The menu reflected the

'Foods of Charleston, New Orleans and South Carolina.' From jambalaya to baked oysters, fried catfish and bourbon pecan pie, no one left without a grin on their face. The evening opened with Henry Stanley, a fine Southern gentleman, sharing his memories growing up in the South and the outstanding cuisine. Other southern Members including Mimi and Frank Conner, Mary and Jay Hughes, Linda Spell and Dale DeFeo sharing their memories as well. Chef Bob and son Robert sang together with Chef at the piano. Chef shared with the Members the fact that he taught himself to play when he saw the grand piano. He led us in a rousing ''Walkin' to New Orleans'. Last but not least, a photo of the southern folk was taken as a reminder of our fun event.

Italian Feast with Joey Fiato The Italian Feast held on November 24 was everything a trip to Italy could be....mounds of Ossabucco and Lasagna as well as chicken piccata, and seafood crostini. To add to the authenticity, Joey Fiato, a well-known Southwest Florida entertainer, sang and entertained with versions of Sinatra and Bruce Springsteen. He even

threw in a bit of Bruno Mars. The dancing was enjoyed by all, even Belle Leunig did a kick line with the gang to 'New York New York'. John Basic was cutting the rug with Kim Porter, and Henry Stanley held nothing back on the dance floor. And new members, Melanie and Bruce Kraemer and Joan and Gerry Gorman showed us some major dance moves. In all..bravissimo !

November started off with a very special Friday Evening Colors dedicated to recognizing Jimy Fernandez and his wife Paula and daughter Sarah. Jimy is a long time server at MIYC who became a citizen two years ago. He has worked long and hard to bring his family to the USA from Colombia. They arrived earlier this year and during Colors we welcomed his family and commended him. The Annual Meeting and election of the Board of Directors was followed by Happy Hour, hors d'oeuvres and Dancing Under The Stars. Nevada Smith entertained Members in his own inimitable way. The Members enjoyed a true Southern Dinner with a focus on the foods of Nashville, South Carolina and New Orleans. That evening, Chef Bob entertained Members by singing and playing the grand piano. A passing of the hat garnered a nice sum for the purchase of presents for Toys for Tots. Thanksgiving is always a feast at the MIYC. This year was no exception. The weekend was filled with fun.

Italian Night on Saturday. Joey Fiato brought the music to complement the Italian Buffet. The month was filled with fun . . . Day Cruises, Sunset Cruises, a special Book Club speaker and cocktail reception; and finally our 'Deck the Halls ' event where the Club is transformed into
